On a sunny morning earlier this year, a camera crew entered a well-appointed apartment just outside the 9th-century gates of Vatican City. Pristinely dressed in the black robes and scarlet sash of the princes of the Roman Catholic Church, the Wisconsin-born Cardinal Raymond Burke sat in his elaborately upholstered armchair and appeared to issue a warning to Pope Francis.
A staunch conservative and Vatican bureaucrat, Burke had been demoted by the pope a few months earlier, but it did not take the fight out of him. Francis had been backing a more inclusive era, giving space to progressive voices on divorced Catholics as well as gays and lesbians. In front of the camera, Burke said he would resist liberal changes and seemed to caution Francis about the limits of his authority. One must be very attentive regarding the power of the pope, Burke told the French news crew.
Papal power, Burke warned,is not absolute. He added, The pope does not have the power to change teaching [or] doctrine.
Burkes words belied a growing sense of alarm among strict conservatives, exposing what is fast emerging as a culture war over Franciss papacy and the powerful hierarchy that governs the Roman Catholic Church.

divorced Catholics are one thing, encouraging muzzy scum is quite another.
Is ANYONE paying attention to the rapidity of this attack on humanity ?
That Pope is a friggin degenerate hippy.
I can’t believe I could ever think that about a modern Pope, but I do.
They give Nobel Prizes to bums, these days —for doing almost NOTHING, and they make hippies into POPES.
Wow.
About bloody time!
Laudato Si was written by a Marxist.
GOOD for Burke!
Neither...he is a adherent of liberation theology...
Marxism wearing a religious overcoat...
I really miss the last two Popes, and I’m not even Catholic.
If you look at the history of the Catholic Church it pretty much fits the Church at Thyatira. However, there is always a faithful remnant who overcome, and this is what Jesus writes to them:
Revelation 2:24 Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden. 25 But hold fast what you have till I come. 26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations 27 He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potters vessels as I also have received from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star. 29 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Miss him more than ever.
I hope the real Catholics run off the leftwing, liberal political hack. He’s been there too long already. If he wants to be involved in politics, he should run for something and try to get elected. If he wants to deal with the environment, he should go take a few college science courses. Sitting around on your butt, sipping tea and reading propaganda written by environmentalist wackos does not make one a scientist.
I miss them both and Margaret Thatcher. DH and I were just talking tonight about how much we miss those leaders.
something not quite right about an almost unheard of abdication to make way for this joke of a pope.
Bingo!
Ditto to what you said. I was in Fairbanks when President Reagan flew to Alaska to meet with Pope John Paul II there. Unfortunately, President Reagan didn’t do anything “historical” like “rename” a mountain or anything like that so they didn’t get a whole lot of press. I miss them both very much also.
Revelation 2:24-29New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
24 But to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not learned what some call the deep things of Satan, to you I say, I do not lay on you any other burden; 25 only hold fast to what you have until I come. 26 To everyone who conquers and continues to do my works to the end,
I will give authority over the nations;
27 to rule[a] them with an iron rod,
as when clay pots are shattered
28 even as I also received authority from my Father. To the one who conquers I will also give the morning star. 29 Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.

A lot of Italians are sick of the immigrant invasion, which Pope Francis supports.
If these Italians came to power, it’d be the easiest thing in the world to take Vatican City, depose Francis and put Benedict (or another) on the throne of St. Peter.
I know it’s extreme, but things are getting extreme.
