U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown has been indicted on federal mail and wire fraud charges following a lengthy investigation of a bogus scholarship fund that made vast sums available for personal use. Her chief of staff, Ronnie Simmons, also was indicted. Brown, 69, faces up to 357 years in prison, a fine of up to $4 million and three years of supervised release. She pleaded not guilty on all counts.

Florida Rep. Corrine Brown has been indicted and will be appear in federal court in Jacksonville on Friday, according to First Coast News. The Jacksonville television station, citing "multiple sources," said the indictment remains sealed. It had been known publicly since March that Brown, a Democrat, was facing a Department of Justice Investigation related to "fraudulent activities," and whether or not she improperly solicited charitable donations and misused campaign funds. DOJ officials asked the House Ethics Committee to halt a separate investigation while they conducted their probe. The target of the investigation has not been identified, but Brown does have...

Federal prosecutors Friday charged the head of an obscure Virginia organization with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, outlining a years-long scheme to defraud donors out of about $800,000 by using the power and influence of an unnamed public official. The facts presented in court papers point to U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown as that official.
  • (Florida) Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Liberal Coalition's Redistricting Map

In a 5-2 opinion, the Florida Supreme Court Wednesday approved a map for the 27 congressional districts submitted not by the Florida Legislature, but by the Florida League of Women Voters and other members of a liberal coalition and approved by Circuit Judge Terry Lewis in October. See the high court's decison here. The resulting map approved Wednesday is basically the work of Democratic operatives. Justice Ricky Polston, one of the dissenters, criticized the decision because Judge Lewis relied on a map drawn by a redistricting consultant with ties to Democrats and was designed to intentionally pack Republicans into districts. That...

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The political careers of several members of Congress — including a Republican seeking to become the next U.S. House speaker — could come to an abrupt halt under a sweeping overhaul of Florida's electoral map. Florida Circuit Judge Terry Lewis on Friday recommended new boundaries for the state's 27 congressional districts, some of which would make it nearly impossible for U.S. Rep. Dan Webster — one of the hard-line conservatives who pushed John Boehner to resign as speaker and then turned on Boehner's No. 2, Kevin McCarthy — to win re-election from his current central Florida...

Democrats scrambled Wednesday to tamp down anger among veterans groups who objected to the party’s choice of Rep. Corrine Brown of Florida as ranking member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee. Compounding the anger was the Democratic leadership’s treatment of the sole veteran among the panel’s Democrats, who was briefly ousted from the committee on a technicality and thus made ineligible to seek to become ranking member. As a result, Rep. Brown was the only Democrat seeking to serve as party leader on the committee that has been a watchdog for the Veterans Affairs Department’s wait-time scandal and the implementation...

Please consider supporting Glo over that crazy Corrine Brown in Jacksonville. Glo is not really being supported by the RNC (probably because she's too conservative). Please look at her website and consider a donation to a VERY worthy cause. She is a solid conservative and right up FR's alley.

A memorable moment from last night’s House hearing courtesy of Florida’s Corrine Brown, whose congressional legacy is already secure. I’ll say this for her: It takes guts to double down on your faith in the VA after yesterday’s IG report, at a moment when more prominent Democrats like Al Franken and Jeanne Shaheen are running in terror from Shinseki. Then again, it’s a fine line between “guts” and “reckless stupidity.” Remember this story from a few weeks ago? Three mental health administrators at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville have been placed on administrative leave after U.S. Department...

The confirmations of two African-American judicial candidates in Florida are being held up by U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and Congressional Black Caucus leaders are demanding action for what they call negligence and obstruction on the part of the senator. Brian Davis, a nominee for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District, and William Thomas, a candidate for the U.S District Court for the Southern District, both made it through Florida’s Federal Judicial Nominating Commission, which routinely makes recommendations to state senators who meet the candidates and send letters of initial approval to the White House. Then, the president nominates...

ORLANDO -- More than 400,000 people have signed online petitions calling for the U.S. Department of Justice to file civil rights charges against George Zimmerman for killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The department is looking into whether those charges need to be filed. Both NAACP President Ben Jealous and NAACP Chairman Roslyn Brock are speaking out in support of the continued federal investigating Zimmerman for violating Martin’s civil rights. Meanwhile, News 13 discussed the case with Florida Fifth District Congressman Corrine Brown at the 104th annual NAACP convention Sunday, which is being held this week at the Orange County Convention Center....

In a dramatic end to a case that has unwinded for over a year, George Zimmerman was found not guilty of any charges related to the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager who was shot by Zimmerman. The case wasn't just a fascination for the broader American public, but for politicians as well. This was especially true after President Obama said in March, 2012 that, if he had a son, "he'd look like Trayvon." On Saturday night, the reactions from D.C. started coming in soon after the not-guilty verdict was reached. The first came from Rep. Corrine Brown, who represents...

U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown has made herself one of the central figures in the George Zimmerman case. The Democratic congresswoman got involved when the shooting of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, became national news. Soon after, the Department of Justice launched its probe into whether Sanford police mishandled the case, and Sanford police Chief Bill Lee stepped aside. Earlier this month, Brown — whose district spans from Jacksonville into Central Florida — got involved in another criminal case. She attended the sentencing of Marissa Alexander, a black defendant from Jacksonville who Brown said was unfairly sentenced to 20 years...

Two House Democrats called for an arrest in the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin, who was shot in February by George Zimmerman while returning from a convenience store to his home. Yesterday and this morning Florida Reps. Frederica Wilson (D) and Corrine Brown (D) spoke out against Zimmerman's actions. "Mr. Speaker, I am tired of burying young black boys," Wilson said on the floor Tuesday. "I am tired of watching them suffer at the hands of those who fear them and despise them." "I want a thorough investigation," Brown said on CNN Wednesday morning. "Personally, I would have liked...

A flyer distributed by U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown’s office promised “a complimentary coupon” for a meal at an Orlando restaurant to “the first 350 to vote” at an early voting site on Friday, sparking the latest charge in the contentious race in Florida’s Third Congressional District. The Brown campaign also used a taped phone message from the candidate to push the offer to people in her district, in which she asks people to “early vote and receive a coupon to have lunch with us at Mama Nems Restaurant.” While Brown’s campaign manager said the Democratic congresswoman did nothing wrong, two...

Democrat tricks would be comical, if they weren’t so blatantly farcical. At this time in our nation’s history, we need people with ingenuity. So when a congresswoman with little name recognition decides to run for US Senate while simultaneously running for reelection to her House seat, that kind of creative thinking is worth noticing. Sure she dropped out after amassing hundreds of thousands in campaign funds, but you’ve just got to applaud that outside of the box thinking, the kind of thinking that makes sane people pause the nation over. Still, one cannot help but wonder why Corrine Brown has stopped...

Insurance agent C. Bryant, a poll watcher from Goldwater days, just came in and reminded me of a time when democratic candidates would hold rallies within walking distance of the polling place on election day...firing up the base and reminding them to "just remember two names in the voting booth"...usually the president and a local rep. or senator. In Corrine's case, she would have reminded her constituents to just remember "Gore and Brown"... If you follow the link, you will see a list of third party candidates from the 2000 race, including an old white man, socialist Walt Brown. Almost...
