Gary Sinise, the star of “CSI: NY,” has revealed that his son, McCanna “Mac” Sinise, died at 33. Mac died Jan. 5 after a five-and-a-half year battle with chordoma, a rare form of cancer. On Tuesday, the Gary Sinise Foundation took to Instagram to share a picture of Mac with the caption, “In Honor & Memory of McCanna ‘Mac’ Sinise 1990-2024.” Sinise, 68, had Mac with his wife, Moira Harris – the couple has been married since 1981, and also have daughters Sophie and Ella. Sinise, who has won an Emmy, a Golden Globe and a Tony, is also known...

He was astronaut Ken Mattingly in Apollo 13, detective Mac Taylor in CSI: NY and Vietnam War veteran Lt. Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump. But the role he's most proud of is that of a real-life philanthropist. Sinise has been helping wounded veterans and first responders for decades and created the Gary Sinise Foundation in 2011. "I've met some inspirational people that have motivated me," Sinise said. "And if I can give back to them by helping them with their efforts, then that's a way that I can continue to serve."

Gary Sinise's iconic role as Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump provided the world a glimpse into a soldier fighting his post-war mental monsters with alcohol and anguish. Although a fictitious character, Lt. Dan's use of alcohol to drown out the psychological and physical pain is a reality for thousands of service members who served here and abroad. In the 1990s, we trained for a conventional war based on a Russian threat. Conventional forces battled on training grounds against imaginary forces called Krasnovians. The military focused on large-scale at a distance war, not up close and personal like the Vietnam War....

Actor Gary Sinise is a rare sight to behold in Hollywood. Instead of soaking up accolades for his memorable performances and indulging in the celebrity lifestyle, Sinise dedicates most of his time to helping America’s veterans. In 2011, the actor established the Gary Sinise Foundation, which has adapted nearly 70 smart homes for veterans who suffered severe wounds in service of their nation. But Sinise’s foundation also has launched an initiative to help the country’s heroes continue to heal beyond their physical scars. According to The Atlanta Jewish Times, Sinise is teaming with The Home Depot co-founders Bernie Marcus and...

The namesake foundation of actor Gary Sinise is donating 20,000 meals to Veterans Affairs' (VA) health care and frontline workers battling the coronavirus pandemic, the VA announced Wednesday. “Donations like this mean a lot to our VA staff as they are on the front lines of caring for our nation’s veterans every day,” VA Secretary Robert Wilkie said in a press release. “We are very appreciative of this donation during the COVID-19 pandemic.” VA’s Voluntary Service will identify the more than 80 VA medical facilities countrywide that will receive the food in the weeks to come.

There are few things in this world you can count on, and few of them are salutary. I can think of only three, two of which are horrible. Those are death and taxes. As for positives, I can think of one: the overwhelming goodness of Gary Sinise. Sinise, probably best known for his role as Lt. Dan in "Forrest Gump," has long worked with veterans and veterans groups, such as flying veterans to the National World War II Museum to tell their stories or serving them Thanksgiving dinner. Sometimes i like to shout out to an otherwise ignored yet awesome human being when it seems that just being a good guy doesn't give you any publicity. Gary Sinise is one such person. Just a good guy that no one really thinks about to often. So happy birthday to Gary Sinise!

Actor Gary Sinise has spent years going above and beyond helping veterans and wounded warriors through The Gary Sinise Foundation, yet his efforts have virtually been ignored by his fellow Hollywood stars. That finally changed this week, when stars came together to pay tribute to Sinise in a touching video celebrating the 25 years it's been since he played Lt. Dan in the 1994 film Forrest Gump. Daily Mail reported that the video included tributes from Sinise's fellow Forrest Gump star Tom Hanks as well as Tim Allen, Jay Leno, and Ron Howard. Various veterans that Sinise has helped over...

Gary SinisePatricia Heaton made her own suggestion on social media after TIME's Person of the Year announced its shortlist on Monday night, offering up actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise. "Hey @TIME , why isn’t @GarySinise ever on the Person of the Year list? Hey @TheAcademy, why isn’t he ever picked for the #jeanhersholt humanitarian award? He raises $30M a year to build homes for wounded vets along with his #goldstarfamily support. Retweet!" the "Everybody Loves Raymond" actress wrote in a tweet. Heaton's choice was apparently well-received online — with more than 30,000 people sharing her opinion.

You would be hard-pressed to find an American who does more for the troops than actor Gary Sinise, the tireless advocate who, through the Gary Sinise Foundation, spends much of his time looking out for their interests. Sinise spent his Thanksgiving at Kandahar Air Force Base in Afghanistan, serving Thanksgiving dinner to U.S. forces. …you know, something presidents used to do in America, as one social media user noted. Not that President Barack Obama can be faulted, he had his plate full this week handing out Medal of Freedom awards to top-tier celebrity supporters like Ellen DeGeneres, Robert De Niro,...

Uses his stardom to ‘do a little more’ Gary Sinise began providing free performances and dinners for Vietnam veterans — what he called “vets nights” — in the late 1970s, long before he was a household name thanks to his Oscar-nominated portrayal of the man who loses his legs in the jungles of Vietnam. Even before he portrayed Lt. Dan Taylor, the Vietnam commander saved by Forrest Gump from certain death in the 1994 best picture winner, the Chicago native and co-founder of the iconic Steppenwolf Theater knew he had to do something to give back to America’s heroes. “I...

Word is now circulating around the Catholic world that conservative hero Gary Sinise, along with Fox News anchor Bret Baier, both publicly professed faithful Catholics, cancelled their appearances at a Legatus Summit at the last minute under pressure from the LGBT crowd. Legatus is the organization of Catholic CEOs founded by pizza billionaire Tom Monaghan to advance the spirituality of Catholic men and women in the higher echelons of American business. The primary work of Legatus and its members is the increased holiness of the members and spreading the gospel within corporate America. Certainly there is a conservative tinge to...

FOX News Channel's chief political anchor, Bret Baier, has shown himself to have a thinner skin than might be guessed from his on-air persona. Baier has caved in to pressure from the homosexual activist group ‘Good as You’ to back out of a speaking engagement at a mainstream Catholic conference. Also backing out for the same reason was Hollywood actor Gary Sinise of Forrest Gump and CSI: NY fame. The gay activist complaint is a repeat of last year when actor Bob Newhart was successfully bullied into backing out of his speaking engagement at the Legatus Summit. Legatus, which was...

Well known for his portrayal of “Lt. Dan” in “Forrest Gump,” actor and musician Gary Sinise was named an honorary U.S. Marine during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Friday, according to a statement released by the U.S. Marine Corps website. “This was one of the most extraordinary nights,” Sinise said in the statement. “I was totally surprised by what the general gave me tonight. I’m humbled, shocked, moved and motivated to keep standing up for our men and women and giving back to them.” Gen. James F. Amos, the Marine Corps’ commandant, hosted the ceremony at his home at...

“Not for fame or reward; not for place or for rank; not lured by ambition or goaded by necessity; but in simple obedience to duty, as they understood it. These men suffered all, sacrificed all, dared all, and died.” Today’s Memorial Day post is dedicated to our country’s fallen heroes; the 1.4 million men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in wars waged across centuries in order to preserve the principles of freedom and liberty. And to brighten your day I offer a couple rays of light into our sometimes very cloudy skies: two amateur videos that...

I'd like to tell you about an American hero I know: Gary Sinise. Gary, as you know (unless you live under a rock), played Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump and currently stars in CSI New York. He boasts too many other award-winning roles on stage and screen to list. What you probably don't know is how much time, energy, and money Gary spends to serve our troops, both active-duty and veterans, and their families. I first saw Gary perform in the basement of a Catholic church in Highland Park, IL about a million years ago. The lighting was rotten and...
