Ping. Looks like yesterday's rally in Sacramento didn't change Davis' mind. On to phase two.

I guess Davis has already knows he won't be getting reelected. Last one out, please blow out the candle.

*snort* Davis doesn't want to be reelected, does he?

There was no indication Friday that a referendum - in which voters are asked whether to retain a law - was in the works, although it hadn't been ruled out.

Uh huh. I can hardly think of something that would gather petition signatures faster than a law that gets between Californians and their cars.

Davis' spokesman Steve Maviglio said the governor would "sign the bill July 22 in ceremonies in San Francisco and Los Angeles." The governor, up for reelection this year, often schedules signing events in those two cities in order to get the greatest level of media exposure.

What, does he sign "Gray" on the bill in SF, and then fly down to LA to sign "Davis"? I know the president often signs bills into law using one pen per letter of his name, so he can hand them out as souvenirs, but at least he does it all at one time sitting at one desk.

"Other states and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have followed the ARB's lead in past years."

Man, that reporter is a bit behind the times. The last California auto/envirnoment law required that 10% of every carmaker's fleet be zero-emissions by 2002.

No other state followed that path, so California then copied the rest of the nation and rolled that rule back to 2009 (or some such date).

The automakers were prepared to spend millions lobbying against 1058/1493, so I can't see a reason they wouldn't take that money and gather signatures with it. And there'd be plenty of volunteers who didn't need to be paid. Me, for instance. I think this will be the perfect issue for the November elections. It'll show just how radicalized the California government has become.

Davis is trying to rally his base. There is a Green candidate breathing down his neck. This makes him look pretty to the hard left.

If Simon is elected,do you think he will reverse this?

Davis will be reelected. Californians will pay $6.00 a gallon for gas and a 30% state income tax as long as they have a governer that suports unfettered abortions.

I really think this should be over ruled by the US Congress using the commerce clause because it will affect the price of cars for me up in Washington State even though I can't vote against Davis.

Are there any freeper reports from the SUV march on Sacramento yet?

I think the radio station was a bit clueless to schedule it on a weekday, so I'm wondering if it was a flop.

(I'm sure you realize by now that I'm sympathetic for the cause but skeptical about the march's results).

Maybe car-manufacturers just ought to withdraw their products from Kalifonia just as some firearms manufacturers have done when faced with draconian regulation?

Good idea, we already have a lot of people that are more familiar with other means of transportation down south !

I think it would be appropriate if the Donkey became the symbol of the States primary means of transportation.

John, got any pictures, we need a picture!

I'm NOT a fan of John and Ken, but they do reach an audience that FR and regular talk radio doesn't. If, indeed, that rally/convoy didn't work, J & K are gonna come back here, hopping mad.

I sure hope Davis is toast.

The other states will NOT follow California on this. Gray out is about to slit Cali's throat.

Exodus to New Mexico, Texas, Nevada, Florida (hey medical device engineers, I'm hiring!), etc.

No state income tax! No gun registration! C'mon over.

IMHO, I agree, Davi$ could be preparing for defeat and in True ClinTon fashion, making as big a mess of things as possible so the repubs will get the blame and the task of cleaning things up. This 2002 election is going to be a real knockdown at the end. I can hardly wait.

Absent some political pressure on the Democrats, Simon would not have a prayer of getting a bill through the legislature to reverse it. The only real hope is either a court chalenge or an initiative. I'm hoping for the latter, because it would help Simon to have this on the ballot this Fall.
