Mrs. Mott told police she and her daughter had been fighting after Paulin-Ramirez had decided on Easter that she was going to become a Muslim.

Paulin-Ramirez began to wear a scarf and spend an “excessive amount of time on the Internet speaking to someone named Alley,” according to Thomas’ report. Mrs. Mott feared that her daughter was headed to New York to meet Alley, an Algerian man, who said he was coming to America to become a pilot. She also voiced fears that it was her, and not her daughter, who was Christian’s primary caregiver and was afraid the boy would not be accepted into the Muslim community.

Mrs. Mott told Thomas that it was, “very out of character” for her daughter to disappear, giving up a job she had held for more than two years at Vail Valley Medical, where she was a medical assistant.”

A U.S. historian who specializes in the war on terror has urged the
judge in the Mohamed Harkat case to carefully distinguish between
jihadists and terrorists.

Professor Brian Williams, associate professor of Islamic History at the
University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, told Federal Court there’s an
tendency to link all Muslim fighters to al-Qaeda.

“Since 9/11, al-Qaeda has lost its meaning,” he testified Monday, noting
that jihad existed long before Osama bin Laden rose to fame.

Williams was called by Harkat’s defence team to offer expert opinion
about Saudi-born jihadist, Ibn Khattab, whom the Canadian Security
Intelligence Service (CSIS) has labelled a terrorist.

CSIS has linked Harkat to what it describes as the Khattab terrorist
organization, which it says, has ties to al-Qaeda.

Gunmen believed linked to drug traffickers shot and killed an American consulate worker and her husband in the violence-racked border town of Ciudad Juárez over the weekend, leaving their baby wailing in the back seat of their car, authorities said Sunday.

Jorge Alberto Salcido Ceniceros, 37, the husband of a Mexican worker in the U.S. consulate, was found dead in a white Honda Pilot, with bullet wounds to his body, the authorities said. Two wounded children, ages 4 and 7, in the back seat were taken to a hospital.

Another call came in exactly 10 minutes later, several miles away.

This time it was a Toyota RAV 4 with Texas plates that had been shot up, with two dead adults inside and a baby crying from a car seat in the back. A relative identified the couple to The Associated Press as Lesley A. Enriquez, 35, a consulate employee, and her husband, Arthur H. Redelf, 34, U.S. citizens from across the border in El Paso, Texas.

Enriquez was shot in the head. Her husband was shot in the neck and left arm.
