National Review Editor Rich Lowry and Liberal commentator Alan Colmes clashed on Fox News Monday when Lowry interjected to rebuke Colmes’ criticism of the way Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum and his wife handled the death of their infant newborn Gabriel, who lived for only two hours in 1996.
“I even think some of the dastardly characters we have in the main stream media are not going to go as low as you just have Alan,” Lowry said at one point.
The heated rhetoric began early on in the segment when Colmes said undecided voters will ultimately not stick with the surging Santorum once people “get a load of some of the crazy things he’s said and done, like taking his two-hour-old baby when it died right after child birth home and played with it so that his other children would know that the child was real.”
The incident Colmes is referring to was described in a 2005 New York Times Magazine profile on Santorum by Michael Sokolove as follows:
“The childbirth in 1996 was a source of terrible heartbreak — the couple were told by doctors early in the pregnancy that the baby Karen was carrying had a fatal defect and would survive only for a short time outside the womb. According to Karen Santorum’s book, ‘Letters to Gabriel: The True Story of Gabriel Michael Santorum,’ she later developed a life-threatening intrauterine infection and a fever that reached nearly 105 degrees. She went into labor when she was 20 weeks pregnant. After resisting at first, she allowed doctors to give her the drug Pitocin to speed the birth. Gabriel lived just two hours.

I think it’s touching that Santorum took his son home, if only to be part of the family for a short time.
That speaks well of him.

Abortionists might be creeped out by treating a dead baby with respect, but they sure are not creeped out when a baby’s head is bashed with a hook and brains are sucked out by a vacuum cleaner.
It most certainly does. This is the first I've heard of it. I doubt Santorum trumpets the matter, either.
Alan Colmes just sealed the win for Santorum. What a backlash of sympathy for Rick Santorum, after such a heartless remark from the depths of HELL by Colmes.
And folks here called Rick Perry “heartless”. What meandering measures we dredge up for what is really heartless. God bless Rick Santorum. I hope he has the wherewithall to avoid even a response to this human example of the satanic who prove to be wondering the earth. Sheesh,

Mrs. Santorum also had another pregnancy where the doctors said the child would only live for a few weeks and recommended an abortion. The Santorum's chose to give birth. After spending a few weeks in the hospital, the doctor allowed the baby to go home with the Santorums and provided them a dose of medication to "make things easier" for the baby when the time came. Meaning the child would probably suffocate from its disorder after a few weeks.
The child did indeed stop breathing a couple of weeks later but Mrs. Santorum was able to revive the child and get to an emergency room where she handed the doctor the medication she was told to administer to the baby in the event it stopped breathing.
The doctor informed her that the "medication" she was given was an extremely high dose of morphine clearly meant to kill the child.
Long story short, that child is 3 and half years old now.
Maybe in part Colmes did not understand the situation well, as though the baby could have lived if kept at the hospital. But yes the subtext seems to be, why didn’t they get a blasted abortion instead of taking an untreatably dying baby home. I mean if it was Colmes grandma who was about to shuffle off this mortal coil in a nursing home and he took HER home to die, he would scarcely expect such catty talk.

He stated that this sort of thing was below Alan Colmes, when obviously it wasn’t and isn’t.

I have seen Colmes before and he is as low as they go.
I guess that makes him a great talking head for the low-life Demcrats.
If they did, he didn't go into it during his speech.
His wife is the sister of Dr. Monica Crowley. Can’t imagine why, but them’s the facts. Haven’t you ever seen Colmes and Crowley together, and the references to the family relationship?
