George Zimmerman: Case will be won or lost in jury selection, Jose Baez says
The Orlando Sentinel ^ | April 13, 2012 | Hal Boedeker

Some notable moments in the recent Trayvon Martin coverage:

Jose Baez, who successfully defended Casey Anthony, was analyzing the case against George Zimmerman on Friday morning for CNN. Baez was agreeing with Professor Alan Dershowitz that the prosecutors’ probable-cause affidavit is very thin. Neighborhood Watch volunteer Zimmerman has said he shot Trayvon in self-defense.

On MSNBC’s “Hardball,” Dershowitz said of the affidavit: “It’s irresponsible and unethical, and not including the material that favors the defendant, unless it’s not true. But if it’s true, as we now have learned from other information, that the grass stains are in back of Zimmerman’s shirt, that there were bruises on his head, you must put that in an affidavit. The affidavit has to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”

Dershowitz also said that everything in the affidavit is consistent with a defense of self-defense. “A good judge will throw this out,” Dershowitz said....

What is a “good judge” going to do with Al and Jesse outside the courtroom with Molotov cocktails?

Florida is a bit unique. First, lots of retirees. These means that you might have a seventy-year old guy who was a business owner for forty years and fairly smart about life on the jury. You might also have a sixty-seven year old gal whose claim to fame is that she watched every episode of Murder She Wrote and Magnum PI. Some retirees will have big issues with a overly complex prosecution case, and even bigger issues with a case that goes on past three weeks.

Then you have the Cuban angle to the jury. There’s fairly good odds that at least one Cuban will be on the jury and be fairly open to the idea of George being attacked and defending himself.

Toss in a retired military member who is fairly intelligent and sees plenty of unanswered questions which the prosecution can’t talk about.

Finally, you’ve got Floridians of various political stances that will find themselves facing other jury members who suggest to tone it down a notch.

As a part-time Floridian, I think your analysis is quite accurate.

Unfortunately, good judges seem to be far and few between?

In some ways it’s almost a microcosm of the whole United States. When we lived there for a few years (1968-71) I attended one terrible school, one mediocre school and what was probably one of the most modern, innovative & cutting edge schools in the whole world, at that time. And they were all within five miles of one another.

Getting tired of saying this. There IS NO CASE.
The is no TRIAL. This a a political dog and pony show.
It has been decided that George Zimmerman is going to jail.
How that is accomplished does not matter. If he is found
not guilty in a Florida court he will be immediately arrested by Federal officers onCivil Rights violation.

The facts of the case clearly matter far less than that a Black lynch mob wants this guy convicted and there’s no sheriff in town willing to stand up to see justice is done.

Sanford is too diverse to get an OJ jury. The odds an entire jury would convict is slim to none. My hope is it gets tossed at the evidentery hearing.

A retired judge friend of mine said FL juror quality took a dive when the juror pool went from registered voters to licensed drivers. Good luck to Zman.

Based on the account we’ve all heard and seen there is no way this thing should ever get to trial. In fact it should be thrown out by now, UNLESS there is evidence to the contrary!

What Sharpton and the other race baiters want is a show trial with a predecided guilty verdict. Unfortunately Florida officials by delivering this ridiculous murder indictment have virtually given them this.

Believe me, he will be railroaded for racisim. I live in Memphis and know how that goes all to well. Try bouncing a black anti-death penalty State Court Judge, they holler racisim. We got the white female Penny White, but could not get Adlpho Burch because he screamed racisim, even though we had proof he was anti-DP. Same goes for US District Judge John T Nixon, very much for killing unborn babies, but extremely known for his anti-DP views, if it were not for the Dem State Senators and Reps we would have had him too, we had that much evidence of his views.

No one marched, no one protested when my 16 year old white son was murdered 4/11/89 by a white sociopath. No one did for 8 year old Ashely “Nicki” Read who was raped, strangled, murdered, and thrown into the Wolf River in 1990, she was white, just a baby and her killer was white, claimed mental disorder, jury didn’t buy it. Her killer stills sits on TN death row, with no end in site, the defense is allowed to make all the errors they want, so it can be kept ‘alive’ on appeals and coming out of the tax payers pocket, including the Victims family’s pockets. But let the AG forget to cross a I or dot a T and the case will be vacated for life with parole.

Go to Amazon and look at Murder in Memphis by Rebecca Easley, it is the true store of the murder of her sister Deborah Groseclose, whose husband hired men to rape, strangle, stab several times with a short knife and then tied up in the trunk of her car in the 100+ degree heat of Memphis where she cooked to death. Nixon vacated that death sentence to Life With parole, now they have to fight that after over 20 years of trying to get him into the death chamber. Becca was nearly killed by a driver, and she has never been the same since. Her aunt is to old to do this on her own.

If this political charade goes to trial the case will BR moved to the panhandle or Ft Myers due to the publicity issue .

Secondly can someone tell me how A GOP Gov Scott and AG Pam Bondi allowed this circus by appointing this publicity hound ?

Considering he already has for at least the immediate future, he will have to hide if this is thrown out or he is acquitted.

A “good judge” would certainly dismiss this at an early stage. However, the “good judge” would also have to be a “non-cowardly” judge. The judge currently assigned probably recognizes that the case lacks merit, anticipates the likelihood of a dismissal being needed but fears the consequences of HER doing it. She’s already lobbying to be replaced on the case.

Good luck finding a judge who would actually do the right thing.
