I am asking all FReepers for their help. Due to health issues I have foolishly allowed myself to fall behind on current events (as some of my recent posts may have indicated).
I am not really all that tech- or internet-savvy. I have seen many web-sites listed as sources for the many threads here. Are there any other sites where information about all things politics and current affairs is available?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Here. I am usually several days ahead of the news cycle thank to Freepers. No better source exists.
Ditto. I am talking to my kids about stuff that they end up talking about in school a week later!

Just look at the masthead and sidebar of FR.
You’ll get caught up
You are ready for a news aggregator. There are several, but my favorite is feedly.com.
Saving to file. Thanks.
Being military minded I found this brit site which is a news spider search engine type. just lists of headlines from all over the world.
This is where I start every day. Won’t stop till they are all home.

That’s another thing I like about FR, the lack of popups, embedded videos (so many supposed print journalism links want to show a video instead of listing the text of an article), and other bloated page loading content...
Stratfor (www.stratfor.com) is a good source for understanding geopolitical events. It is staffed by some extremely good analysts (CIA, military intelligence, diplomats, and even academics) who understand the culture and history of various countries and regions as well as the key players. Often there is insight and intelligence not found in other resources. Many corporations and government agencies around the world subscribe to this resource. Overall the reporting is objective as the articles are written from the perspective of a researcher without a political point of view. Once in a while there is a commentary from a 21st century intellectual point of view that may seem a bit slanted but at least does come with some facts and thinking behind it, not just a bunch of emotional assertions.
Stratfor is a subscription service, but you can sign up to their free newsletter which has some good nuggets of information. I read and enjoyed the free newsletter for years before finally subscribing. The annual subscription price is very high but they do run deep discount specials from time to time to entice readers of the free newsletter to subscribe. I’ve also learned if you let your subscription lapse at the end of the term, after a couple of months they’ll send you a offer to come back for the deep discounted introductory rate.
This is simply one of the very best news aggregation websites in existence.
Drudge comes in second.
I wish we had a Drudge Sidebar where latest Drudge headlines and interesting other listings from Drudge were posted with links so we could talk.
I think that Breitbart tried to do it without success.
