GRAYWOLF
Mystic gray wolf
Calls to me
The sounds of north
Of snow clad tree
Of something moving
With a rush
Gray streaks within
The underbrush
A pale moon shines
Over mountain's thighs
Reflecting from
Deep yellow eyes
That grab your spirit
Bind your soul
Into my dreams
The gray wolf stole.

"I Will Be Good"
Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? -1 Samuel 15:19
|
When Queen Victoria was a child, she didn't realize that she was in line for the throne of England. Her instructors, trying to prepare her for the future, were frustrated because they couldn't motivate her. She just didn't take her studies seriously. Finally, her teachers decided to tell her that one day she would become the queen of England. Upon hearing this, Victoria quietly said, "Then I will be good." The realization that she had inherited this high calling gave her a sense of responsibility that profoundly affected her conduct from that day forward.
Our Scripture reading for today tells how Saul had been chosen from among the people of Israel as their anointed king (1 Samuel 15:17). Almighty God had honored him greatly in giving him this position as leader of His special nation. But Saul didn't think about the kind of attitude that should accompany his high calling. If he had, he would not have pounced on the loot of battle as if he were the leader of an outlaw band (v.19). As believers, we are children of God and joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16-17). We have a noble calling. Let's always keep in mind who we are. This will help us to say, as young Victoria said, "I will be good." -Herb Vander Lugt
O Lord, you see what's in my heart, There's nothing hid from You; So help me live the kind of life That's honest, good, and true. -D. De Haan
A child of the King will want to display the manners of the court.

wow, you are up early pretty lady! Sorry for the weird post last night. I was responding to someone on another thread & apparently hit the wrong locale for "reply" link.. ugh.
Sat night I got in VERY late. (4 AM).. quick sleep getting up at 7. after church had 3 hours HEAVY DUTY hike with Oliver & then came home & made a couple boca burgers. Was tired so lay down for a "little nap". woke up 6 hours later, having missed an evening date.. who left a note on front door, wondering where I was.
woke up with inspiration for Power point for Memorial day/church that I have been dead in water with for 2 weeks. worked all night on it, Finding pix from my stash of FR/Internet pix (yes, OF COURSE, Cigar guy); my personal pix from DC war memorials over past couple years & other misc. including pix of church people who are vets. ( I am one also but feel weird including myself./ Many slides have many pix plus words & so each is complex)
I want this to be something of relevance, beauty & patriotism that will touch hearts. I am thinking of battle hymn of republic for music but might need another addition. Will check around. any suggestions?
oh BTW... GOOD MORNING!

2.) New proverb: "Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out."

An Old Cowboy's Advice
* Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.
* Keep skunks and bankers and lawyers at a distance.
* Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.
* A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.
* Words that soak into your ears are whispered ... not yelled.
* Meanness don't jes' happen overnight.
* Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads.
* Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.
* It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge.
* You cannot unsay a cruel word.
* Every path has a few puddles.
* When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.
* The best sermons are lived, not preached.
* Most of the stuff people worry about ain't never gonna happen anyway.
* Don't judge folks by their relatives.
* Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
* Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.
* Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't botherin' you none.
* Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.
* If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.
* Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.
* The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'.
* Always drink upstream from the herd.
* Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
* Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.
* If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

Thanks, A-G. Hope your Monday is going great.
Happy World Turtle Day!

I have a little turtle,
He lives in a box.
He swims in the water
And he climbs on the rocks.
He snapped at a minnow
He snapped at a flea
He snapped at a mosquito
And he snapped at me.
He caught the minnow,
He caught the flea,
He caught the mosquito,
But he didn't catch me!
-Vachel Lindsay
Old and silly but I thought it was kinda cute for Turtle Day.
