Yes, Another Vanity (eyeroll)
7/6/2011 | Me

Posted on 07/06/2011 10:41:36 AM PDT by NoGrayZone

My sister stopped over this morning. We got back to talking about moving to another state....again.

She stated Texas has been calling her, she is an RN. The hospital she works at now used to have several booths, recruiting new grads. Now they have none. They are constantly invited to "luncheons", in which they do not participate. They have stopped hiring, as I have found out trying to find a new job.

My sister said they are encouraging recent grads to go to Texas, to get their bacholers & RN license.

I know, from FR, TX is booming. My sister has a friend who moved back to Houston, TX, owns 3 homes in which he rents and said he could get me a great paying job in the oil industry (I hehehe'd at that one).

With my sisters RN license, she wouldn't have a problem getting a job, and perhaps at the rate she is paid here in NY.

We are very nervous about leaving our home state, been here all our lives.....but they are killing us. She asked me to post a thread, specifically to TX FReepers, just for some information regarding the Houston area.

We are suburanites and very Conservative. We would NOT bid well in ANY area that is slightly blue.

We also have questions regarding weather. I (and my sister) must claim "stupid" regarding this subject. We are used to 4 seasons, etc. How is the Houston area, or it's suburbs(must be suburbs. We CANNOT live in a "city" type area).

If I remember correctly (in which she pointed out) Austin is lib, correct?

The last thing we want to do is move across county, only to wind up in a mini NY.

To all you Texans out there, any information would be grateful, especially around the Houston area.

Keep in mind....."THE REDDER THE BETTER".

I was born in Hollywood. I went to Hollywood High and USC. I've lived there my whole life and in the Hollywood Hills for two decades, but recently I bought some property in East Texas. I will probably sell my CA house pretty soon because I spend all my time in Texas. As a conservative, working in show biz, it was pretty frustrating, but being in the most conservative town, in the most conservative district, in the most conservative state in the union...is heaven.

Also, this area, (Tyler) has gone thru a transformation from oil to medical. Hospitals everywhere.

Hahahaha, is that a proposal???? JK!!! I must admit, I am a single gal, turning 41 the 18th of July (ugh) with no children.

I took myself out of the dating game 4 years ago. I love a “man’s man”. Here the men are metrosexuals and expect “you know what” immediately (ewwwww).

I am a clean Conservative woman (well, actually girl...I DO NOT act my age).

Is Denton County suburban? If you have a spare bedroom I could stay in (paying rent of course) to find a job, I am willing.

As I have stated, NY is no longer my home.

What do you mean by north of DFW and live near ME?

Sorry for my ignorance. I know NOTHING outside of NY!

Get y’all a pink Volvo or a Prius with bumper stickers that read:

“I’m a Democrat,”
“Amnesty for Illegals,”
“I love the Dixie Chicks,”
“Boycott Beef,”
“I Voted for Obama,
“ George Strait Sucks,”
“Hillary in 2012”
And...
“I’m here to confiscate your guns.”

Move to Austin and do NOT leave the city limits. You’ll fit right in.

The humidity in Houston is not nearly as bad as Florida, much of the Southeast or even the midwest in the Summer. Nothing is as bad as D.C. in the Summer. There is a reason they call it “The Swamp”; mostly because it was built on a swamp.

What is surprising is how cold they keep restaurants in the summer. Lots of women take in sweaters or jackets to keep from freezing. In the winter, they don’t keep them nearly as cool. Our favorite country saloon where we dance is cool enough that lots of women wear some sort of jacket while not dancing. I love it that they keep it cool.

People who move here just need to realize that you simply go from an airconditioned building to an air-conditioned car and then back into another air-conditioned building.

"If you end up more north of Houston (Austin or more north), don’t forget about tornados and ice storms in the winter."

My Ford Explorer can get through the best of ice storms. However, I've only encountered a "close call tornado" twice.

"People very friendly, sort of the anti-New York."

That is one of my biggest problems about NY. Even if I am in the most baddest mood, when I come across someone, whether it be in a doctors office, deli, etc, I would NEVER take it out on them.

I work for an endodontist (root canal specialist) and some of them are SO RUDE I have to excuse myself and go in the closet and curse them out privately!

Who the heck goes to a doctors office...WITHOUT THEIR INSURANCE INFORMATION AND EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW WTF THEIR INSURANCE IS????

Sorry, but this job is killing me, as is NY. I NEED out now!

Texas is hot as h*ll, never rains, mosquito's and cockroaches the size of Volkswagen's, no culture, vast wasteland..

And FLIES! My land, you've never seen such flies, especially around Ft Worth and Austin.

Ft Worth has the stockyards. Guess liberals attract them around Austin.

"Your eloquent opinions aside, this is Texas, and yes Spanish is necessary here. However, all the hospitals here offer courses in medical Spanish for their employees."

Hence the problem. If you can't speak English then get the f^&k out.

I live in northwest Houston in the Cy-Fair school district. We moved into our neighborhood 6 years ago specifically to get our son into the Cy-Fair schools. While not perfect, this is as conservative an area as we could get in Houston. We are about 30 minutes (on a VERY good day) from downtown Houston. Over an hour on a bad day.

Downtown Houston, within the Houston city limits, forget it. It’s so far liberal now there is no going back.

The info that would be most helpful to you and your sister though, is that there are 4 hospitals within 20 minutes of my house (depending on traffic of course). 2 of those hospitals are within 5 miles of my house. Lots of opportunity here for an RN. Your sister does not have to drive to the medical center downtown to find work, that’s for sure.

Send me a note if you’d like more details :)

We here in Long Island have AC everywhere for our summer times.

Home, car, work, stores, etc. It gets very hot and humid here so we are all prepared.

Had to laugh at some Yankee friends the other day.
They got off the plane in 102 degree heat and surveyed their surroundings- nothing as far as they could see but flat brown plains. ‘Oh. My. God’., said they. LOL

My goodness, it seems like satan is trying to prevent our move. Well FU satan, it's happening one way or another.

NY has become Sodom and Gomorrah. We want out and want out now!

That is TOO funny! Same thing happened last time I flew back from New York. Landed in Austin because I HATE DFW airport, too crazy there. Some female New Yorkers walked ahead of me out of the building and also said “Oh, my God!” then “Why is it so HOT here?!?!” LOL

Take a weekend and come down to Virginia Beach, VA. All the benefits of Texas and no tornados, big bugs or any other horrors you are reading about. However, I think a lot of the negative posts are Texans trying to discourage immigration from NY.

Hmmm, my sister being an RN and me having the experience of corporate accounting, AP & AR experience, as well as a small endodntic practice, and dealing with the public might be a place for us.

F&*$ spanish. We are America. English only. If you can’t speak our language, then get the hell out.

Not in Texas. We might have defeated them long ago at the San Jacinto, but the Mexicans have long since taken Texas back.
They rule in a lot of places, especially hospitals. (My mom is an RN) Many supervisors and most patients in a lot of places are Mexican. They speak Spainish to each other right in front of you. They way they see it; you can like it or lump it.
Learn Spainish for your own self preservation.

Even this native Texan finds the Texas heat oppresive and unbearable. I say with all sincerity: God Bless Air Conditioning!
