Full title: What would Jesus drink? Experts guess what wine was like in ancient times and what modern ones are similar

Christ was a vintner.

And if you heed the Scriptures, quite a good one, according to the maitre d' at the wedding in Cana. "... the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, 'Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.'" (John 2:9-10).

In ancient times, wine was precious and revered, mentioned more than 140 times in the Bible. As Easter and Passover draw near, thoughts turn to the vine and curious minds reel.

George Washington was a whiskey distiller. Was he a KGB plant?

"Yours simply wasn’t met, it seems. But it’s a roll of the dice every time you do it."

Only if you look at that glass of glorified grape juice and see a hand grenade. It's not nearly so scary or dramatic.

And for the record, I'm Evangelical, but my in-laws are Baptist, and very devout. But they see nothing wrong with an occasional glass of wine, and I've never seen either of them drunk.

Though wild grapevines have grown on the Italian peninsula since prehistory, historians are unable to determine precisely when domestic viticulture and winemaking first occurred. It is possible that the Mycenaean Greeks had some influences through early settlements in southern Italy, but the earliest recorded evidence of Greek influence dates to 800 BC. Viticulture was widely entrenched in Etruscan civilization, which was centered around the modern winemaking region of Tuscany.

Because the ancient Greeks saw wine as a staple of domestic life and a viable economic trade commodity, their settlements were encouraged to plant vineyards for local use and trade with the Greek city-states. Southern Italy’s abundance of indigenous vines provided an ideal opportunity for wine production, giving rise to the Greek name for the region: Oenotria (”land of vines”).

I imagine the “wine he created” would be an ideal or “perfect” wine and not the relative swill of the day.

Of course, if he were here now: Stoli martini, two olives.

I like it. If you don’t care for lots of bloody medieval warfare it might not set to well with you.

I don’t think that would bother me too much...and for the worst parts I’d probably look away.

Whenever I see a commercial, I tell myself I need to check it out. I’m going to do that...thanks. :)

It is well into the third season now. If you can see it from the start that is best.

>> “You can’t sin without being unrighteous.” <<
1John2:

[1] My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
[2] And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

But if we continue to sin:

2Peter 2:

[9] The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
[10] But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
[11] Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
[12] But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
[13] And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
[14] Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
[15] Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
[16] But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
[17] These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
[18] For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
[19] While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
[20] For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
[21] For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
[22] But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Some people have the enzymes to process alcohol rapidly, and some don’t. Those who don’t, get drunk fast and intensely - leading toward easy overconsumption and possibly a fear of anyone drinking at all. Those who do, wonder what the big deal is and can by choice avoid drunkenness while imbibing.

General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, have you ever seen a Commie drink a glass of water?

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Well, no, I can’t say I have.

I’d like you to read this in a Russian accent:

“Drink! ...Vodka, wine—doesn’t matter!...It will make you strong—like Russian people! Russian people know what’s good for them!! ...Ha! Ha ha! Ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha hah!!!.............”
