The official biography was conceived on a grand scale by Churchills son, Randolph, and became even grander when Martin Gilbert was appointed to oversee it in 1968. Sir Martin expanded its scope to include every relevant piece of documentary evidence that could be found in any archive. Under his direction, the official biography reached its full eight volumes of narrative, and 17 of 23 volumes of The Churchill Documents were completed. Together they provide both a rich treasury and a massive resource, carefully indexed and annotated. In 2012, Sir Martins declining health required that he turn the project over to Larry P. Arnn, President of Hillsdale College.
In addition to the free download, the College is also observing the anniversary with a brand new scholarship opportunity open to students in fall 2015. The Winston Churchill Endowed Scholarship will provide financial support to three undergraduate students and two graduate students who demonstrate an interest in politics and history and possess exceptional writing skills.
thanks
I must have missed the FREE window...they are $9.99 each now....darn
I downloaded them to my Kindle Cloud Reader but I’ll probably only be interested in the WW2 era ones
I didn’t get them either, but only because I don’t have a Kindle. Because of this offer, though, I checked out the Kindles last night. I’m an avid reader, but there’s something about the electronic readers that is off-putting to me. However, with an offer like this, I can feel myself weakening. Do you know the difference in the different Kindles? Do you have to have WiFi or can you hook them up to your computer?
In any event, I’m sure we’ll have another opportunity for these great Churchill books.
I just have one of the original Kindle readers....I like it for stuff I don’t want to save (I collect books, especially classics). I find it very comfortable reading on my Kindle, when I do use it. Yes, I think you have to have wifi, or else you won’t get your book loaded to your Kindle, unless maybe there’s a way to hook your kindle to your computer and download from Amazon that way???
I bought a refurbished Paperwhite last year when it was on sale. It’s strictly for reading and is black and white. No color.
I’m on dial up, no wifi. There is an option to download the book using a UBS. I download to my computer then use the USB to transfer the books to my Paperwhite.
There is an app available to read the books on a computer without having to purchase a Kindle. A Freeper author turned me on to that.
I was hesitant about an electronic book. What I like about it now is that I do not have to turn on the light to read, and if I misplace my glasses, I just enlarge the font. Oh and 2 dictionaries were included so if I don’t know a word I can quickly look it up and continue reading without missing a beat.
Although a Kindle is nice, some books I prefer to read in their paper format.
Thanks Rain Drop. That’s helpful information.
Awesome! I have the a mishmash of these volumes that I’ve found in used bookstores over the years. This will be great to have on my Kindle.
I am bumping up this thread, because the offer has been extended through today!

Thank you, thank you, for the head’s up. Nothing beats free, especially such an important set of books. I’m on Hillsdale College’s mailing list. Love that College. This made my day. Thank you so much again. A good Freeper you are.
