Mr. Merideth said he is looking into what legal action he could take in response to the incident. He said he only fired his weapon because it was hovering over his home. Merideth added that he was disappointed with the police response. 'They didn't confiscate the drone. They gave the drone back to the individuals,' he said. 'They didn't take the SIM card out of it
but we've got
five houses here that everyone saw it they saw what happened, including the neighbors that were sitting in their patio when he flew down low enough to see under the patio. 'Our rights are being trampled daily,' he said. 'Not on a local level only but on a state and federal level. We need to have some laws in place to handle these kind of things. 'You know, when you're in your own property, within a six-foot privacy fence, you have the expectation of privacy,' he said. 'We don't know if he was looking at the girls. We don't know if he was looking for something to steal. To me, it was the same as trespassing.
Sounds like peeping tom to me...
sounds like we heard this story a week ago...any NEW info on this thing?
Some states have passed laws to protect privacy on private property from drones.

I guess someone reposted it. Nothing new. Prosecutor will have a wastes of time an taxpayer money if he goes ahead. Jury nullification.
Next time use a hose. Firing guns in town is hard to justify here. I’d fine him one dollar.
I think that the real issue is the possibility of injuring (or worse) someone from stray gunfire. If it was actually OVER his property no one will convict on this. If it wasn’t, that gets trickier.
Then there is the “who” on the other side of this. If it was a bunch of teenage boys, I’d have to give them credit for creativity. If it was a 42-year old man...I’d give him 15 minutes with the girl’s father in a soundproof room with no window and no camera.
I see a good opportunity here for an entrepreneur to create an antidrone device. Perhaps some sort of water cannon or one of those t-shirt launchers modified to fire a wet mass of thread.
The drone flyer could have been up to no good or it could just have been a guy playing with a new toy.
Great idea.
From what I read the guy is both intelligent and safety minded.
He intentionally used a shotgun with small shot, no chance of injury to anyone downrange.
Not only do I not have a problem with this, it should be a model for future issues. “If you like your drone, you don’t get to cry and sue when you fly it over property belonging to someone else and they destroy it.”
You don’t go drive your car around the back of your neighbor’s house on their property and yard then stare at them for a while with binoculars and a recording camera, then leave when you feel like it.
Sanity check.
This was a legit drone and by other accounts, not peeping in on his daughter, which is a cute excuse for inexcusably shooting down someone else’s drone. Three shots—who could have been innocently hit by these errant shots?! The guy rightfully was arrested and should spend a nice amount of time in jail, plus pay to replace the $1,800 drone. Idiot.
Is there an established or common law height where you have ownership of the air space above your property?
The title is inflammatory and wrong. The video was apparently destroyed so no one knows what was on it.
The father KNEW they weren’t peeping on his daughter?
Damn, that’s been left out of all the stories.
I’m with you.
Exactly, it might have been someone enjoying Flying the plane. Every RC guy and gal is NOT pervert. My husband owns several drones and loves them. He doesn’t trespass but he gets amazing pictures with them. Please don’t be knee jerk on this. No one knows all the specifics on that situation.
How do you know if it was a “legit drone”, and not “peeping in on his daughter”? The drone owner told you that?
How do you know he’s not a child predator looking for a young child to molest or kidnap?
You don’t, do you? Don’t “assume” anything because as you know, when you “assume”, you make an “ass of u and me” and I’m no ass. You’re on your own on this one.
the drone owner is claiming he took a bet from a friend to see if he could make it from A to B but I guess between A & B was this guys house.....He,homeowner with daughters, got pissed, shot it down, don’t blame him
There’s no jury in Kentucky that will find for the prosecution. It’s a waste of time. If the man starts a kick-start account, I’ll donate to it, and so will everyone else I know. It’s just outrageous.
He doesnt trespass but he gets amazing pictures with them.
Yea sure I am sure he does.....just ask his buds
