Immaculate-looking flight attendants who appear unruffled by the demands of a life spent in the air are part of the slick image sold by carriers -- but Hong Kong-based workers are increasingly hitting back against sexual harassment.
Female cabin crew told AFP of how they had been harassed by not only passengers but also other airline staff.
While they say carriers have made some steps in the right direction, they argue airlines still lag far behind in the #MeToo era.
Venus Fung, whose experiences drove her to join and lead the Cabin Attendants Union of Hong Kong, says airlines must teach workers on how to deal with harassment.

Dress them in burkas and this will stop.
It was "Coffee, Tea, or me?" in the era of wealthy executives flying first class. Attention from desirable men is desirable.
Common peons better keep their hands off. Attention from schlubs is undesirable.
They better watch out or the Asians will do what the American airlines did and fire all the pretty girls and hire nothing but hags and fags. Asian airlines still got the pretty stews.
Hire homos and old, frumpy hags like US carriers and there will be no harassment problem.
The last time I flew 1st Class transpacific I had a male flight attendant lead with several mature females. The iconic stewardesses of the 60s are long gone.
However, I find the Asian Airlines (Cathay Pacific, Japan, etc) to have very sexy attendants. Plus they are very helpful.
I had to run to make an AA flight to Tokyo and was the last passenger to board, had the last Business Class seat next to the kitchen. Needed something to drink (juice, water, beer) from the run, had to wait over 30 min to be served.
I get tired of reading about this. There is no reason for this behavior. Men have got to learn to control themselves.
Strange. I just got a mental image -— a vision, as it were -— of you two as the male version of old frumpy hags. Do you have egg on your moustaches?
I’ve done some flying in my day, about 95% of which has been in Coach.I’ve known for years that stews don’t date Coach passengers...so I’ve never bothered even trying.
‘Venus Fung’. Now that is a name.
“Men have got to learn to control themselves.”
Here is an excellent article from Vanity Fair to indicate the why and how the misconception of Stews versus flight attendants has displayed. The last time I came across from Florida to Washington State I watched a women in first class grab a hand full a couple of times on the male attendant we had in first class. He stepped away from it and smiled at her, the last time thanking her for the attention.
To say it is only men doing the groping, is not exactly true. But with the women’s outlook today on sexual posturing, the growing teaching in our education system, and the media blasting it one way, it is not going to get the type of attitude I witnessed. And I can’t think of a public education system that warns males against anyone but other males. Got to get two sides to the street.

One example of a woman acting that way does not negate all of the occurrences where men have acted this way.
Aeroflot in Soviet days was notorious for its homely stews; they were selected because they were less likely to defect.
My wife & I were being served by a male flight attendant; she noticed his wedding band & asked did he spend long periods away from his family. He replied that he wasn’t married.
She pointed at the wedding ring; he laughed & said, “Oh, that’s my `fag deflector’”. He added that his girlfriend wished he would wear it for real.
