In this, the final Chapter of my Serapeum Series, we investigate the evidence for a lost ancient civilization at the Serapeum, take a look at the evidence for renovation and inheritance on the site, and discuss what it all means in the broader context for the story of history and human civilization. In previous episodes, I've been promising conclusions and that I would tell you what I really think about the history of this site - and so I do, and it extends to much of ancient Egypt. Transcript is available on my website.

'Civ sez: As fringe vids go, this one really rocks out. I'd never paid much attention to the Serapeum, but the photographic/video evidence seen here really impresses me. I'm not someone who thinks, oh, stupid primitives couldn't move big stones, and the abandonment of one of the stones in transit in the corridor (to an alcove not yet constructed?) shows that it was done the good old fashioned way -- but the site is a puzzle.

I have always suspected that the earliest civilization arose on Crete. No real proof but some hints.

Good video. A bit repetitive, but still worth watching.

One of *those* topics.
- (15) Where we place Shoshenk I (Hedjkheperre) and Osorkon I (Sekhemkheperre) in this picture is as yet a matter for further study but it is interesting to note that in the Serapeum at Sakkara the Apis bulls buried during the reign of Ramesses XI were followed by an Apis burial in Year 23 of Osorkon II, with no interments from the 21st and early 22nd Dynasties! It is therefore conceivable that Osorkon II shortly followed the end of Ramesside 20th Dynasty and was the first Libyan monarch to be recognized in the ancient capital of Memphis. Accordingly, this Osorkon may have reigned before his 'predecessors' in the conventional chronology, Shoshenk (I) and Osorkon (I).
The list of Memphite priests of Ptah places Shedsunefertem, a contemporary of Shoshenk I (Hedjkheperre), shortly after the time of the last Psusennes. This would possibly place Shoshenk I in the late 8th century. Thus we have not excluded Velikovsky's suggestion that Hedjkheperre Shoshenk was the Pharaoh 'So' who took tribute from Hoshea of Israel in 725 BC (see Ages in Chaos, iv: 'Shoshenk').

The "power tools" section sucked, but the late JA West wrote that an analogous observation (that the mudbrick pyramids at Saqqara appear to have been built over a much older structure) was made by someone in one of his tour groups.

Ultimately there’s no way to determine where the earliest civ’ started, only where the oldest traces are, and the oldest surviving sites (so far) are in Anatolia. Culture and habitation is another thing altogether:

Civilization is a little difficult to define.
I am sure I read somewhere that the oldest palace in the world, or maybe just Europe was on Crete.
Greek myths which go back to the fog of the beginning of written history, imply that Greece was under the thumb of Crete.

Civilization means, building and living in cities. Easy definition.
The Minoan Thallosocracy was invented by Sir Arthur Evans or some other Victorian; the Mycenaeans took over later, and during the Trojan War, the allies from Crete went along. Linear B (from Knossos and other places, including Pylos in Greece) is a writing system that was used to record Greek, and generally thought to have been derived from Linear A, which is presumed to be Minoan.
The Attic Greeks claimed to have lived in Attica since before the Moon was in the sky, and of course the Platonic dialogues about Atlantis purport a longer existence for the Greeks than the Greeks themselves knew (the Egyptians claimed only that their records were oldest and continuous, at least according to Solon, allegedly).

History trvia. The Serapis was the name of a ship invovled in a famous battle with American force.
Identify that event.

I don’t know how anyone could come to any other conclusion about the ancient megalithic structures in Egypt. The dynastic Egyptians simply didn’t have the tools or the methods to construct the multi-ton artifacts we see there today.
Graham Hancock and others are right. We’re a civilization with amnesia.
Off topic, but the guy in that video is the spitting image of Chumlee.
