Geologists in Canada have found that an ancient continent was 10% larger than previously estimated after analyzing rock samples dug up during diamond exploration work.
Researchers from the University of British Columbia (UBC) made the chance discovery while studying diamond samples from Baffin Island, the largest island in Canada.
They identified a new part of an ancient fragment of the earth's crust known as the North Atlantic Craton, which ran from Scotland to North America and broke up 150 million years ago.
The scientists said the samples they analyzed had a "mineral signature" displayed in other parts of this particular craton, a large block of the earth's crust that forms the nucleus of a continent.

So... Does this means that if Columbus or the Vikings would have departed sooner, they could have walked here instead of sailing?

Yes, it appears so. I guess the crux of the article is that most of the other remote islands around there had a different age crust - probably much older. This is relatively young crust.

Is this Gondwana Land? Serious question. The North American Craton is an old and stable part of the continental lithosphere, which consists of the Earth's two topmost layers, the crust and the uppermost mantle, centered in the present N.America land mass. As such it has been present in the last several Super-Continents of Gondwana, Euramerica, Pangaea and Laurasia.

More settled science down the drain? In Real Science, not the junk science surrounding AGW and other current politically-infused nonsense, there's no such thing as "settled science." Each new discovery builds on or nullifies the original hypothesis.
