The article leads one to the conclusion that with even a crude handgun a rifle, submachinegun, machine gun, grenades and much more are within reach.

Thank you for enlightening me, but I’m not sure those things are really necessary. If we refer back to our history, the Minutemen defeated King George’s massive professional army through innovative tactics and surprise strategies. Though undermanned and weaponized, they still sent the Red Coats headin’ for the hills.

Should we break out in open revolt against the government, it is my opinion that the military will stand on the side of freedom and liberty, NOT with zero and the leftists.

I hope so, too. But what if they don’t or they bring in outsiders (EU, Chinese, South American or whatever)? Or build their own army, say a “National Civilian Defense Force” just to coin a term off the top of my head?

Just a guess but, if they did that, I believe that American Revolution, the Sequel would soon be underway!!

the tactical part of your analysis seems mostly anecdotal. Besides Finland what are some of the historical examples with numbers?

The FBI estimates the number of privately-held firearms in the United States at 200 million.

I would bet that was before November 2008. In the year or a bit more following that, Americans bought enough firearms to equip both the Chinese and Indian armies, the two largest in the world. Sure many of those were handguns, some where .22 plinkers.. but many were not. They were AR-15s, high powered rifles, most with scopes, and a few were .50 caliber rifles. Ammunition sales are still backlogged, at least for the more popular calibers, and some less popular ones. (Anyone know where I can get some .45 Colt without waiting months for it? :) )

I hate to tell you how long I to wait for my AR *Kit* to arrive. The receiver was the easy part. :)

Green-eyed envy here. :-)

At the moment, practically every American who wants a firearm, owns one. If that ever changes such that even more want one, they can have one out of current supply. Heaven help whoever made them want one.

There is a social dynamic there that is grossly underexplored. In Great Britain at the moment a 300-lb drugged-up hooligan can break down any door he likes and take whatever he wants, secure in the knowledge that the justice system is more likely to make excuses for him than prosecute him. In the United States a 12-year-old girl can blow his sorry butt back out the door with Daddy's shotgun. She doesn't want to, and pray she never has to, but she can. That is civilization, in my opinion, and cowering behind a door hoping that he chooses someone else is barbarism. My European friends disagree. I fervently thank God I'm not one of them.

hmmm explains why they are now saying hand guns increase health insurance costs. Once health reform passes the gov can raise your premiumns to what ever they like if you own a gun.

>they will be denied department of transportation funds and school money if they deny the federal tyrants abusive requests.

Thats just another dogmatic excuse that they use to excuse their lack of action.
Any State can withold it’s citizens Federal income tax payments.
and that WOULD cause the Federal government to crash.

All this talk of grabbing a rifle and such is really just preening and posturing amounting to nothing. As I learned many years ago in gun politics, the folks who would say “they’ll take my gun out of my cold dead hands” were really saying “I want to sit on my ass and watch while someone else does the heavy lifting.” And the irony is, if it really came down to a confiscation scenario, you can bet that these same “patriots” would show up two hours early to turn in their guns so as to beat the crowds.

These kinds of threads are a waste of time and counterproductive. All they do is allow a few people to puff up their chests and say how they’ll dramatically do something (idiotic and suicidal) “someday.” Worse, they allow our opponents to point to conservative websites and use them to paint conservatives as violent and extreme.

The irony is that we know that this ill-defined “someday” is never going to come, and that these same individuals who are doing the posturing and preening will still be sitting on their asses doing nothing useful ten years from now.
