Hello. I am a college student that has gotten interested in politics within the last few years. I come from a long line of independants who raised me to vote for whom I agree with the most, not based on party affiliation.
Last night, I attended a performance of Margaret Cho in Indianapolis. One of the last things she mentioned was all of the hatemail she recieved from members of Free Republic. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Surely this has to be a joke. So when I got home, I read the hatemail on her website. Then I logged onto this site and read some more. It wasn't a joke.
Call me naive, but it seems to me that Margaret Cho is so "hateful" because, like me, she is angry and doesn't understand why people are so afraid of giving others equal rights. If gays and minorities contribute to the workforce, pay their taxes, and want to enjoy the rights that other Americans (straight whites) do, why shouldn't they be allowed that? What are conservatives so afraid of? It was interesting to me that when posters had no legitimate argument, they resorted to making comments about Cho's weight and race as a negative, which reminds me of how sixth graders behave. I was disgusted with the comments posted by the members, and it saddened me that these people are probably teaching their own kids racism, homophobia, and bigotry at home.
Please explain to me, without being so racist, bigoted, and just plain nasty as you were about Ms. Cho, why so many conservatives feel that it's perfectly fine to limit the rights of people they don't identify with, why it's okay for pharmacists to refuse contraceptives base on their own opinions, and why you believe that it's okay for Dubya to limit choice, freedom, and continue to make it easier for corporations to harm the environment.
It doesn't make sense to me, how seemingly intelligent people are so adament about taking a step backward. I would like to hear your thoughts, since I only have one Republican friend, and the only thing he'll say is that he's a Republican b/c his dad is, and that he's just against partial birth abortion.
P.S., I would especially like to hear from those of you who wrote the hatemail to Margaret Cho, because I am interested in what you have to say about this...
Who is Margaret Cho?
Welcome to Free Republic.
Margaret Cho; who cares?
Welcome to Free Republic.
PS: it's bad luck to sign up and post for the first time on Friday the 13th.
There's a whiff of ozone in the air. . . .
Sniff, Sniff Joined today and check the name.
Cho likely lied because Ive never heard of her.
I didn't write hate mail to Ms. Cho. I am wondering though, why someone would spend time and money to hear all the hateful stuff that comes out of her mouth? Care to share your thoughts on that?
Kinda like your posting here. Long on accusations and name calling, short on evidence. I'd live to see the content of the postings fro Ms. Cho's website, and the threads that you read from here to confirm your beliefs about us.
Welcome to FR!
fro = from
I hate it when my typos make words.
Your timing leaves a lot to be desired. Our brief little scuffle with the Margaret Cho trolls ended about two years ago.
Do you seriously mean to tell us that she's STILL talking about it now? Man, does she ever need to get a life. And some new material.
I have helpfully keyworded this thread "MARGARETCHO" so you can click on the keyword and see for yourself.
By the way, it's spelled "independEnt".
Election of candidates shouldn't be a popularity contest.
1) Disapproval of homosexual activity as unnatural and immoral is not to be equated with racist bigotry. Nor is it "homophobia," which would be the "fear" of homosexuals; disapproval does not equal fear.
2. An abortificant pill, which destroys an already-begun human life after conception, is not the same thing as a "contraceptive," which would prevent conception before it takes place.
And you misspelled "independent".
The "pendant" part of your screen name would tend to imply that you're a saggin' bitch. :D
You think you have the standing to make such a request, with a name like yours?

English is even harder than math!
