....Youve got a choice, and that choice is in a governor who has a track record of creating jobs, Perry told a standing crowd of about 175 in a packed hotel ballroom here in the town that shares his name. We understand how to compete.
....No other candidate in the race talks about their home state anything like the way Perry does about his. Michele Bachmann behaves as though if she represents Iowa in the House, not Minnesota. Mitt Romney seems to downplay his history in Massachusetts, highlighting instead the vacation home he owns in New Hampshire. Newt Gingrich represented Georgia in Congress, but hes lived in Virginia for years and rarely talks about his onetime home state. Santorum mentions Pennsylvania, but talks more often about what he did in Washington during his two terms in the Senate. Ron Paul hardly mentions the south Texas district that he represents in Congress.

CALIFORNIA: ..Texas Gov. Rick Perry has become a folk hero for people like Stewart as he's marketed his state as a low-cost and business-friendly alternative to California, which is fertile job-hunting ground for Perry.
Texas has added 929,000 jobs since 2001, while California has lost approximately 635,000 manufacturing jobs in that same time, Stewart said.
Answering questions after his speech, Stewart told the story of Perry sending programmed cellphones to CEOs in California with a simple message: "If you're interested in growing your business, please call me. I'm here to help."
"They're doing something right down there," Stewart said of what he dubs the "Texas miracle." "Gov. Perry will go anywhere, any time, to try to recruit companies into Texas."
Perry has taken the state's regulatory process and managed it himself, Stewart said
[CA Economic Development Corporation President Mark] Lascelles emphasized that it does no good to belabor California's regulatory environment
"Unfortunately, we can't avoid it. We have to deal with it," he said. Source

.."Another new measure made tightening air quality permits on the oil and gas industry more difficult. That law, which Perry signed in June, requires the Texas environmental agency to analyze the effect of new regulation on the economy - including how it might hurt a company - before implementation. The economic impact could override the environmental benefit of the new regulation. The new law reflects Perry's contention that global warming is a questionable theory and that regulation always creates an adverse business climate." Perry Slashed Environmental Enforcement in Texas

Rick Perry Scares the Media & Democrats to Death GOP consultant Mark McKinnon says that the editor of a major newspaper told him, "We plan to declare war on Rick Perry and do all in our power to crush him."
Mr. McKinnon was outraged. "No pretense of integrity, professionalism or of unbiased news gathering," he wrote in Investors' Business Daily.
But I doubt he was surprised. This is what the "mainstream" media did to Sarah Palin in 2008, and what likely is in store for anyone Republicans nominate.
But liberals will go after the Texas governor with special venom because he is anti- intellectual, prays in public, takes the Constitution seriously and sometimes carries a handgun, Walter Shapiro wrote in The New Republic.
"It's almost as if Perry's political persona was constructed by bundling together all the fears and phantoms in the left-wing anxiety closet." he said.

Perry Wins IPad and IPhone Vote (We CAN take on China and win!) .While the rest of the country has been suffering from Obama-itis (too much government regulations and power hungry unionism), Texas has been trying to make itself attractive to business (by limiting regulations, empowering free work rules, limiting frivolous lawsuits, educating ALL its people, limiting taxes) Which brings me back to the IPad and IPhone. As many of you know (well, at least the tech-knowledgeable among us), the brains of the IPAD and IPhone is the A5 chip. These chips are now made in Texas in a new $3.6 Billion facility. How big is this new facility? Well, to put it in terms any Texan would understand: Nine football fields. This is a major facility:
The A5 chip inside Apples iPad 2 and iPhone 4S is now being produced stateside (In Texas), according to Reuters. Sources familiar with Apples production details told the news organization that Samsung Electronics is now handling production of the A5 in Austin, Texas. Among manufactured products, the states leading export category is chemical manufactures, which accounted for $38.4 billion (20 percent) of Texas total merchandise exports in 2008. Other top 2008 manufactured exports were computers and electronic products ($35.2 billion), machinery manufactures ($27.3 billion), and petroleum and coal products ($25.3 billion).
.
Got to LOVE that government number up there, eh?
You got that right! Thery cut government jobs and added private sector jobs. I also see a significant increase in mfg jobs. Funny, the guys on FNS said that all the new jobs in TX were burger flipping jobs that went to illegals. Gosh...could they have been misleading me? /sarc!
No wonder!
Texas' Personal Income Growth Over the Last 5 Years Was 66% Faster than US
The case for Perrys venture capitalismTheres a big difference between the Texas and statist approaches - There has been a lot of debate about Gov. Rick Perrys economic development funds. The criticism centers on the idea that the Texans funds create a Solyndra problem for him, that by investing in businesses that bring jobs to the state, Mr. Perry has the same job-creation approach President Obama displayed in backing federal loans to a solar-energy firm.
Equating the two men in this way provides a convenient symmetry, but its also a false comparison that misses why many free marketers are comfortable with Gov. Perry even while critical of Solyndra.
Oct 14, 2011 CSM: Rick Perry jobs plan: Make rest of America more like Texas -- Working ........."Not all economists would put domestic energy production among their top five priorities for job growth. But many do see significant potential in this field, as the Perry campaign does.
For example, economist Peter Morici at the University of Maryland, in a recent analysis of the nation's employment crisis, wrote that "shutting down US oil and gas development is costing the US economy millions of jobs."
His view: An emphasis on domestic production could create jobs by dramatically reducing America's trade deficit, thus recycling more consumer dollars in the domestic economy. Promotion of energy production would also spill over into job creation in other industries, Mr. Morici says, as a need for refineries and pipelines boosts demand for construction workers, steel, and heavy machinery.".......

........."you can lay your fears to rest because in the last year the Texas public sector has shrunk by 26,000 jobs. In the last 12 months, Texas lost 31,300 federal employees, trimmed 3,800 state jobs, and increased local government jobs by 8,400 jobs."........... Source
Misfire: Romney Ad Targets Rick Perry's Jobs Record "I think it's safe to say the Romney campaign is going for the kill with its latest attack on Rick Perry. The former Massachusetts Governor has already gotten a fair amount of mileage out of attacking his Texan rival from the left on Social Security, and from the right on immigration, but this new spot strikes at the heart of the Perry campaign's raison detre -- jobs, jobs, jobs:
The Facts --Mitt Romney's political ad
[snip]
The spot's most striking image is a tumbleweed blowing along a deserted Texas highway. That's rich. It's intended to create the impression that Rick Perry's Texas is something of a depressed ghost town. Nothing could be further from the truth. Since the recession began, desperate job seekers have flocked to Texas at a clip of roughly 1,000 people per day. And they're finding work, too. Despite a huge population influx and a bruising national recession, Texas' unemployment rate remains below the national average. How remarkable has the Lone Star State's economic performance been? "Read this Political Math analysis (written by a self-professed non Perry supporter), and marvel.
When did it become a BAD thing to have a record and actually run on it?!
Most of the time, candidate’s run FROM their record...or spin it into an unrecognizable form!
This guy’s got one, he’s worked hard for it and he’s hammering its success!
How could ANYONE not see 3 things:
1. He’s got an amazing record;
2. It’s what we need in the rest of the U.S.;
3. He would eat Obama up over the stuff that’s killing us!
It’s amazing!
Agree with you 100%.
Still think he can and should win, but watch for a Perry gaffe-ometer trending if he does even reasonably well today. They did the same to Reagan to - even I remember that.
One quick question, as caucuses are distinctly foreign to me - how likely is it that the field will narrow after today? Have seen some comments on the Santorum threads about various candidates simply not having the cash to carry on.
That ridiculous. I guess Romney, Santorum and Gingrich are out too because of Ted Kennedy fatigue and all the other LIBERALS and RINOS coming out of the NE. That "thinking" takes Bachmann out too because look what kind of politicians Minnesota produces. And add Paul into the mix because he's from Pittsburgh (then moved to a small town on the Texas coast to open a medical practice) --- so he's got a double whammy.
I think the electorate is more intelligent. They're out of work, not out of their minds.
And besides, Perry is a conservative, Bush (the Bush family are transplanted elite NE RINOS) is a moderate.
You nailed it with that line.
I watched Romney and Perry interviewed this morning on FOX. I thought, are we electing a president or crowning a king?!
I'm going with courage of convictions and someone that will work hard for us.
You make some good points, but an opposing argument could be made by contrasting Bush-Perry and TX fatigue vs Nixon-Reagan CA fatigue.
That did not seem to bother voters in 1980. And I think Barry’s been worse than Carter, too.
Yes, but the press at least attempted to maintain a pretense of objectivity back then. These days they spend all of their time either promoting Obama, covering up for him, or slandering Republicans. There is no longer even a pretense of balance. Also Reagan was a much more polished speaker. And one last difference, it was Reagan vs. Bush, so all the conservatives were in one basket. This year we have conservatives spread across Newt, Santorum, Bachmann, and Perry and all of them attacking each other rather than attacking Mitt.
Great points.
It's because of his record that I support him. He has a consistent conservative record. He's not a one time Gov who flip flops and he has no character questions. The next 2 candidates that come close to Perry are Bachmann & Santorum and neither one has the executive experience.
I'm praying we get past this silly idea that obama is so awesome debating that unless our candidate is an Oxford debate champion we can't win. The only way I see us losing is by nominating a candidate who doesn't think social issues are important, or wants to have America retreat from the world stage. obama will lose every debate when our candidate asks, "where have you been for the last four years?"
