....No other candidate in the race talks about their home state anything like the way Perry does about his. Michele Bachmann behaves as though if she represents Iowa in the House, not Minnesota. Mitt Romney seems to downplay his history in Massachusetts, highlighting instead the vacation home he owns in New Hampshire. Newt Gingrich represented Georgia in Congress, but he’s lived in Virginia for years and rarely talks about his onetime home state. Santorum mentions Pennsylvania, but talks more often about what he did in Washington during his two terms in the Senate. Ron Paul hardly mentions the south Texas district that he represents in Congress.

Texas has added 929,000 jobs since 2001, while California has lost approximately 635,000 manufacturing jobs in that same time, Stewart said.
Answering questions after his speech, Stewart told the story of Perry sending programmed cellphones to CEOs in California with a simple message: "If you're interested in growing your business, please call me. I'm here to help."
"They're doing something right down there," Stewart said of what he dubs the "Texas miracle." "Gov. Perry will go anywhere, any time, to try to recruit companies into Texas."
Perry has taken the state's regulatory process and managed it himself, Stewart said………

Rick Perry Scares the Media & Democrats to Death GOP consultant Mark McKinnon says that the editor of a major newspaper told him, "We plan to declare war on Rick Perry and do all in our power to crush him."

But I doubt he was surprised. This is what the "mainstream" media did to Sarah Palin in 2008, and what likely is in store for anyone Republicans nominate.
But liberals will go after the Texas governor with special venom because he is anti- intellectual, prays in public, takes the Constitution seriously and sometimes carries a handgun, Walter Shapiro wrote in The New Republic.

Perry Wins IPad and IPhone Vote (We CAN take on China and win!)…….”While the rest of the country has been suffering from Obama-itis (too much government regulations and power hungry unionism), Texas has been trying to make itself attractive to business (by limiting regulations, empowering free work rules, limiting frivolous lawsuits, educating ALL its people, limiting taxes) Which brings me back to the IPad and IPhone. As many of you know (well, at least the tech-knowledgeable among us), the brains of the IPAD and IPhone is the A5 chip. These chips are now made in Texas in a new $3.6 Billion facility. How big is this new facility? Well, to put it in terms any Texan would understand: Nine football fields. This is a major facility:

Sources familiar with Apple’s production details told the news organization that Samsung Electronics is now handling production of the A5 in Austin, Texas. Among manufactured products, the state’s leading export category is chemical manufactures, which accounted for $38.4 billion (20 percent) of Texas’ total merchandise exports in 2008. Other top 2008 manufactured exports were computers and electronic products ($35.2 billion), machinery manufactures ($27.3 billion), and petroleum and coal products ($25.3 billion).”…….

You got that right! Thery cut government jobs and added private sector jobs. I also see a significant increase in mfg jobs. Funny, the guys on FNS said that all the new jobs in TX were burger flipping jobs that went to illegals. Gosh...could they have been misleading me? /sarc!

Most of the time, candidate’s run FROM their record...or spin it into an unrecognizable form!
This guy’s got one, he’s worked hard for it and he’s hammering its success!
How could ANYONE not see 3 things:
1. He’s got an amazing record;
2. It’s what we need in the rest of the U.S.;
3. He would eat Obama up over the stuff that’s killing us!

Still think he can and should win, but watch for a Perry gaffe-ometer trending if he does even reasonably well today. They did the same to Reagan to - even I remember that.
One quick question, as caucuses are distinctly foreign to me - how likely is it that the field will narrow after today? Have seen some comments on the Santorum threads about various candidates simply not having the cash to carry on.
That ridiculous. I guess Romney, Santorum and Gingrich are out too because of Ted Kennedy fatigue and all the other LIBERALS and RINOS coming out of the NE. That "thinking" takes Bachmann out too because look what kind of politicians Minnesota produces. And add Paul into the mix because he's from Pittsburgh (then moved to a small town on the Texas coast to open a medical practice) --- so he's got a double whammy.
I think the electorate is more intelligent. They're out of work, not out of their minds.
And besides, Perry is a conservative, Bush (the Bush family are transplanted elite NE RINOS) is a moderate.

I watched Romney and Perry interviewed this morning on FOX. I thought, are we electing a president or crowning a king?!
I'm going with courage of convictions and someone that will work hard for us.
You make some good points, but an opposing argument could be made by contrasting Bush-Perry and TX fatigue vs Nixon-Reagan CA fatigue.
That did not seem to bother voters in 1980. And I think Barry’s been worse than Carter, too.
Yes, but the press at least attempted to maintain a pretense of objectivity back then. These days they spend all of their time either promoting Obama, covering up for him, or slandering Republicans. There is no longer even a pretense of balance. Also Reagan was a much more polished speaker. And one last difference, it was Reagan vs. Bush, so all the conservatives were in one basket. This year we have conservatives spread across Newt, Santorum, Bachmann, and Perry and all of them attacking each other rather than attacking Mitt.

It's because of his record that I support him. He has a consistent conservative record. He's not a one time Gov who flip flops and he has no character questions. The next 2 candidates that come close to Perry are Bachmann & Santorum and neither one has the executive experience.
I'm praying we get past this silly idea that obama is so awesome debating that unless our candidate is an Oxford debate champion we can't win. The only way I see us losing is by nominating a candidate who doesn't think social issues are important, or wants to have America retreat from the world stage. obama will lose every debate when our candidate asks, "where have you been for the last four years?"
