Are Americans obligated to take up arms against would-be tyrants?

In 1833, thirty four year member of the Supreme Court, Joseph Story, wrote: “The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered as the palladium of the liberties of a republic.” (1)

That “palladium of liberties” has never been exercised more frequently than during the four years Barack Hussein Obama has been in the White House. According to the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), “…the top 10 record gun sales days have occurred since Barack Obama’s election in 2008, and gun ownership has skyrocketed over the last four years.” (2)

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) reports that in 1944 there were approximately 192 million firearms owned by 44 million Americans. By the end of 1996, the ATF reports that...

I would think any people who cherish freedom have the right to take up arms to defeat tyrants. Live free or die (or be enslaved). Take your pick. The founding fathers allowed us to keep our arms in the event the government (that’s the politicians) overstepped their bounds and continued to take your rights, and earnings (thru taxes) away from the people. It’s been going on steadily, primarily since FDR; the politicians have been trying to take your guns away via law since 1968 (our Federal gun law is similar in structure and content to the one the Nazi’s instituted to make sure they were unopposed once they secured power) and continue to do so to this day. They continue to keep our children ignorant of their past history and rights by the drivel (and lies either by commission or omission)now taught in public schools, combined with the crap that hollywood continues to churn out with tv shows and movies portraying capitalism as the evil spawn of white, male, Christian, europeans, who are the cause of all the problems in the world. Wake up, America, before it’s too late. The slow turn of the screw is upon us, year by year, week by week, day by day.

After two centuries of American history and the death of countless men in battle for the preservation of the rights and liberty earned in the Revolution, the time for neutrality or for joining those who would destroy that liberty is over.

The emphasis above is mine. That speaks to me. Are we, as a Country, going to p**s away the freedoms that tens of thousands have died to ensure we have? That thought is repugnant to me.

According to Locke, its mostly a matter of natural law- it will occur because it is supposed to, much like the law of gravity dictates that an object falls to earth.

I agree, but what does that look like now? The American Revolution was fought when the Patriots were forming a new nation. 200+ years later, we are rapidly pissing it away. I believe that God wants us to fight for our country as this was supposed to be God’s haven on earth. We need to fight, but it’s going to be against family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Very ugly....much worse than 1860.

“the death of countless men in battle for the preservation of the rights and liberty earned in the Revolution.”

I think it depends on who and what they died for.

The way I look at it, the rights they fought and died for, and the liberty, was a personal decision. They fought for INDIVIDUAL rights, not national rights.

The time has come for us to take back our rights. I would gladly fight for restoration of our rights. When that time comes, I won’t fight for “everyones” rights, I’ll be fighting for MINE, and MY family. That may sound selfish, but it’s not, because I’ll be fighting alongside others who are fighting for the same thing.

So, to me, I would be fighting for the same ideas as my forefathers.

There’s a line. I won’t speculate exactly what right or situation it demarcates.

But once my peers in government presume to lord over me one time too many, and push over that line, I’ll start killing.

And I’ll have no regrets.

The government and all belong to the people; not the tyrants who presume they own it.

The Second Amendment is confirmation of the Founding Fathers’ belief in the “balance of power”. They created 3 branches of government for a reason, and they gave each branch specific powers that provide roadblocks against the others, simply to maintain the balance of power.

The final domain of the balance of power rests with the people’s right to keep and bear arms. If zero gets his way (and he will) on letting the UN take control of our Second Amendment rights, that could well end up being the clarion call to arms for the people to finally apply the brakes to this runaway administration.

For those who may not recognize it, Obama is what happens when the inmates run the plantation (asylum)!

I disagree. The 2nd Revolution will happen so fast few of us will know its on and done. The only immediate evidence we will see is a short news blackout, and shortly thereafter an exile announcement and a new leadership.

There may be some relatively minor fighting in the barracks, but those higher will be in agreement to stand with the Patriotic American people. Those like Peelousi and dingy harry will be running for the hills, while many dems will again side with America.

It’s a very fine difference, but a people can only resort to arms if it is the only way to preserve the natural rights possesed by all men, recognized in the bill of rights.
It would be immoral to use force to achieve a society we prefer but cannot win by elections, if those basic rights were not threatened.

That is the clear path to OUR becoming dictators. If a group seized power in lieu of election winning, it follows that they cannot stand for elections after seizing that power which they cannot win freely. So now this minority cannot stand for elections, and must begin to suppress dissent. This is the pattern around the world by those who seize power.

However, that situation is a very different thing than an oppressed people righteously fighting an oppressor. So as long as we have free elections, force of arms is wrong.
We must win in the battle of ideas. But the minute elections are a corrupt charade, violent resistance is moral and justified.
The democrats systemic corruption of the electoral process is the most dangerous event we face. Because when a people can no longer use elections to control their government, force is all that is left.

The democrats have brought us closer than ever to this, with the level at which they now supress the military vote, vote the dead, the homeless, register illegals and felons, and import busloads of Somalis who don’t speak english.
Heady stuff if you really think about it.

And our big fail is that we are like Hitler always counting on some miracle weapon that will win the war. We want to find the one pure, perfect president who will overturn Roe v Wade, Kill the fed, eliminate the department of education, the EPA, the IRS, expel all foreign muslims, etc etc,,,all in the first 100 days.
What we should do is focus hard on local races. When we build STRONG representation in cities, counties, and state bodies, the national power will follow. It’s not as easy for us because we are not the party of activism. Our people are working and living life.
But in my opinion, that is the path to winning.

PS, a clear corollary is that if a government uses foreign troops (such as UN) against it’s population in any manner except classic disaster assistance. Thats another bright line. What could be a more clear sign that the government is not OF the people, than that they are forced to use foreigners to enforce their rule?

Used to be the the CPUSA and their COMINTERN buddies met in secret.

Now they are in your face, large and in charge, from the WH to the local apparatchik at the county commission.

Any attempt to suppress domestic communism is now branded as hate speech or domestic terrorism.

The Republicans are useless.

It’s time to start developing a strategy to cripple the marxists, and it must be done totally outside of the electoral process through acts of civil disobedience and counter propaganda, with sympathetic State Governors and legislators assisting in the process.

All else fails, the military can fire the scumbags wholesale in all three branches, provisional military government for six months, then new elections (no incumbents need apply) only taxpayers and veterans enfranchised, all amendments repealed except the Bill of Rights, dueling legalized for for members of the House and Senate.

hope you are right, but don’t think so. These people in power are willing to do whatever it takes to win, while the rest of us are a sleep at the switch - the Military seems to be purging the Patriots willing to stick their heads up

Are we also obligated, as a result of our unique heritage, to USE those weapons against any force which threatens the annihilation of our rights and liberty?

God given natural rights implies a God given natural duty. But the duty must be carried out rationally. One does not need to sacrifice one's values for a cause that is hopeless.
