Remember how the liberal media kept screeching that President Trump was Putin's puppet? Well, the reality was quite the opposite because President Trump OPPOSED the one thing most important to Vladimir Putin, namely the completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. A project that President Trump knew would make Western Europe dependent on Russian energy which is why he imposed sanctions upon it.
Oh, and does anybody out there really think Russia would have invaded Ukraine if President Trump were still in the White House? But, hey, at least we no longer have mean tweets.
PING!
.
This is what I am trying to figure out, at present. Trump opposed Nord Stream 2 primarily, it appears to me, because it was an abuse of the US taxpayer to fund a defense of Germany against Russia, while Germany was interested in sending billions to Russia in exchange for oil.
I wonder if Trump’s hands weren’t tied by the fake Steele Dossier and “Russian Collusion” charges, if he wouldn’t have preferred a restructuring of NATO. Germany trading with Russia, in fact the whole continent entangled in peaceful commerce, seems like an alternative he might have liked.
At least it explains the creepy and baseless charges and congressional “investigations”.
But, Russia oil imports were more than 150,000 barrels per day for five of Trump's last six quarters.
We were energy independent under Trump but that doesn’t mean we we weren’t still importing oil and gas. We were just shipping more than we imported.
At least that is how I understand it.
But I’m curious if anyone knows if Trump was still buying Russian oil and gas. Somehow I think he was. It would be nice to know that he had cut them off if that is the case.
1n 2016 we imported 162 million barrels from Russia.
In 2017, that was reduced to 132 million barrels
Here is a source that has the data on a per month basis: U.S. Imports from Russia of Crude Oil and Petroleum Products
This new Chancellor seems to be better than Frau Merkel. But then, Merkel was from East Germany.
Yes, we ship oil to countries that cannot buy it from other places, like Israel.
Oil was also a lot cheaper than, so Russia was not making the kind of profits it was making under Biden.
I cannot vouch for the chart I posted, even though it comes from Bloomberg.
162 million barrels in 2016 would be almost 500,000 barrels a day.
The Bloomberg chart shows less than 50,000 barrels a day in 2016.
Normally, I would research this more deeply, but besides EIA and Bloomberg, I have no idea where else to look.
In my post above I provided a link to the data.
I have no idea which one is incorrect.
I think you are looking at the chart incorrectly, as the chart is a graph of daily or weekly imports. The data I referenced are totals for each month. Thus, in a short period of time the imports may be zero, but for the month they would remain high.
It is still possible to generally estimate the daily average even though the chart space per year is very compact.
The highest line is 300,000 barrels a day, so nothing even comes close to 500,000 per day.
The chart average is 93,000 barrels a day.
See upper left corner.
It’s back in the news.
Yup!
