VANITY: My Daughter is Peanut Allergic

I just found out my daughter is peanut alergic, she is a 2/5 at just 15 months of age. Is there anything that a freeper can tell me about how bad this is? do chiledhood peanut allergies ever go away? how often? how ofter and how fast do they get worse?

Have you consulted a pediatric allergist? If not,a visit to one might be of benefit.Given that you're in Minnesota,one affiliated with Mayo Medical School is likely to be up on the latest research on this subject.

My best friend's son had a severe peanut allergy. He ALSO had asthma and the doctor put him on steroids and an inhaler, three times a day. He was very sickly. She took him to a homeopathic doctor in Phoenix to help him with his asthma.....after a couple of weeks, maybe less, he was cured of his asthma. Year or so later, she picked him up from school karate and he had eaten a large part of a candy bar with peanut properties or peanuts and he didn't have any reaction!!

And he hadn't had any reaction since his asthma had been cured. So she took him to the allergy doctor, and told him about the homeopathic asthma cure and asked him to test her son again to see if he still had his peanut allergy. The doctor didn't want to because it's soooo dangerous, but he did it very slightly over the whole day. At the end it was straight peanuts and NOTHING...NO ALLERGY!!

My nephew has peanut allergies. He's 3 and they haven't gone away yet. He has other allergies too, so keep your eye out for other allergic reactions. Did you get an EpiPen? It sounds like your daughter's allergy isn't a really serious one or you probably would've found it sooner. I know from my nephew that little ones can definitely outgrow allergies, but you'll just have to give it time and take her in for allergy testing in a year or two.

And good luck - I'll say a little prayer for your little girl. Hopefully someone else will know more about this to help you.

Good friends of ours have a little girl who was recently diagnosed with a peanut allergy. They're learning that peanuts are in *many* products/packaged foods. They've also learned that just being around an open can of peanuts can bring about an allergy episode. Has your child's doc supplied you with an epi-pen?

My Son has "Reactive Airway Disease", fancy term for Baby Asthma. His pulmonologist also did tell me that most children with baby asthma will present with eczema, could be mild could be worse. My son is constantly getting skin rashes (instead of a cold, he gets skin "viruses")

Oddly enough though, he is not allergic to peanuts.

Honestly, homeschooling may be your best way to go.

My younger daughter does not have a peanut allergy but whenever she got sick, she also got a Urinary Tract Infection. We found this out when her sister was in Kindergarten. School is a bag of germs. The older one was out of K with strep, Norwalk virus, pink eye and every cold that swam around that room. She was out 37 days! This with the teacher having the kids wipe the room down with Clorox wipes every day and Purell available!
Everytime the older one got sick, the three year old would too. She began to have "burny tinkles". It was horrible watching your three year old sitting on the Potty crying, trying to urinate.
Through testing, we found that she has a tipped kidney. They wanted to put her on a prophilactic antibiotic until she grew out of it. The kids I knew that were on this, had a problem when an illness popped up. Their bodies were immune to the antibiotic and different ones needed to be tried. I didn't want to do this. The other option was surgery. NO way!
Through different circumstances, we started homeschooling the older one. We stopped being sick and her little immune system had time to build up. We haven't had another UTI.

It was always amazing to me that an entire school would be put on a nut alert and the parents trusted that every other family would stick to it. Sorry, I'm just not that trusting. That parent of the child with the nut alergy is counting on every parent and every child will remember something that is just not on the front of his/her priority list. They were trusting that no eight year old will pack their own lunch and forget the rules. Eight year olds can be pretty flighty and parents have to give them responsibily at some time or another. The child with the peanut allergy could be in a life threatening situation for an innocent mistake.

My little one was in Daisy GS. The leader had such an allergy and told us at the beginning. About half way through the year, the kids were doing bird feeders with suet and rolled in birdseed. I didn't have any birdseed so I sent in, guess what? Trail mix. With nuts and dried cranberries. The birds in my neighborhood love this. The leader was very nice, but did ask if I wanted to do her in!
