NASCAR begins campaign that targets core fan base - (They want the fans back they alienated)

NASCAR is unveiling a brand message for the season dubbed "Our NASCAR" that targets its core fans, the same ones who have complained that the sport left them behind during its growth.

(SNIP)

TV viewership also dropped among males 55 and over, another statistic that could speak to the loyalty of the longtime fan. These figures offer some support to the more anecdotal complaints longtime fans have voiced about inconsistent start times, the commercialization of the sport and the desertion of tracks in the Southeast such as North Wilkesboro and Rockingham, both in North Carolina, in favor of new markets such as Los Angeles, which is served by two races per year at California Speedway.

What’s NASCAR got to do with stock cars? They quit that in the 80’s when the big three quit making cars anyone wanted.

GREAT statement. :^)

Get rid of restricter plates and cookie cutter cars and let them have at it.

May the best mechanics, builders and drivers win.

EXACTLY! It is not about the best of the best anymore. It is now teams and corporate sponsorships. Get back to the basics and get rid of the NASCAR endless rules and restrictions.

I could barely stand to watch Daytona last weekend. It just bored the crud out of me.

I disagree...the opening ceremony was fun to watch and the last lap was exciting. Agree about the rest of the race though!

Here’s a clue. Hold a race, not a concert. Start it on time, not an hour and 40 some odd minutes after it’s supposed to begin. That might be a good start.

I was glad that Newman won. I have always been impressed with him.

Me too! It was nice to see a different face in the winners circle for a change. I like Jimmy Johnson and the rest, but the same people winning over and over gets boring. And can we please get the camera off Jr. Geez...talk about wearing you out. I laughed at Tony Stewart...poor guy was so mad. Rightfully so I guess.

The races have a built in naptime. When they race on the plate tracks I watch the first 50 laps, take a nap through the bulk of the race then watch the last 50 laps.

LOL! And the funny thing is...you know you didn't miss a thing during your nap! And if you did, they will repeat it endlessly on the Speed channel for the next 7 days.

I think they should lose the restrictor plate altogether. They run at far higher speeds here at Michigan (up to 210 and 212 mph top end) on a flatter track. The slingshot draft comes into play and makes a better race. The drivers can drive away from trouble in a way they can’t do on the plate tracks.

Agree...what is it with NASCAR elites and all the rules and restrictions. Let’s get back to the way it was...I don’t want to see drivers killing themselves, but I think there is a happier medium that what we have now. And for goodness sakes, can we ban the Toyota cars?

Leave it on Fox only and viewership will go back up.

It’s beginning to be more like the SuperBowl—the commercials outshine the sport.

glad to see nascar isn’t completely asleep at the wheel..

when motor sports see new advances technology-wise, safety may improve but it also exacts a cost from the drivers and teams, these days one can only tweak a car so much,, or risk getting swatted by an official.

and heck, don’t toss toyota, let honda and bmw get in the mix too,, any perceived advantage by new arrivals will hopefully stimulate the laggards..

or better yet, toss most of the rules and keep the safety equipment as is.. but just let them race, Oh and did I mention split screen?

agreed,, nascar has become a WWE-like operation the last few years... and ramped it up as a soap opera as well.

Agreed!!!
What the h*ll do these people think made Nascar popular to start with.

I wouldn’t want to see any driver hurt, or killed but, Nascar is getting just like the American Government, too many regulations and , the regulations have taken the fun out of Nascar.

At the risk of sounding like an old fogey....Pontiac Bonnevilles, Ford Galaxy 500, 409 Chevies, Dodge Super Bees and Plymouth Super Birds were a lot of fun to watch and listen to run.

The sport's cars have all gone metrosexual.

What did it for me was the “CHASE”.

Jeff Gordon won the season points race but then came the ridiculous, boring and over drawn “chase”.

They really lost me there. Me and countless other fans, and the attendance rosters prove it.

They could start by moving the races back to a 1PM start time. I loved being able to drive home from church and right about the time I get home the race is just about ready to start.
