Urgent prayer request

Dearest Prayer Warriors:

It’s been a long time since I have posted here on Freerepublic, but I remember how much you had helped me out with the prayers I had requested for my older sister Sherryl, and she is doing well. Now here I am again asking for your help.

My younger sister “Lori” needs all the prayers that anyone can spare. She was admitted to the hospital ( Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, Ca) a little over a week ago with a kidney infection, which turned into Gram Negative Sepsis with E-Coli, and developed Adult Respiratory Arrest Syndrome. That in it’s self was bad enough, but then on July 12th when they took her off the sedation medication, and she was not responding they sent her for a CAT scan and found that she had had 2 major strokes that affected both sides of her brain. The back of her brain was the part affected and there is still activity in the front of the brain. The doctors told me that if she survives this that she will most likely be paralyzed on both sides of her body with little or no sight.

I am in such a state of shock, and just numb, but cannot and refuse to accept that this is happening to my sister. I am in North Carolina, and being so far away from her makes it even worse, the doctors have told me that even if I were there, there is nothing I could do. Her children and hubby are with her and we are in constant contact. Please pray for Lori, the last I heard tonight was that her vital signs are stable and she responded a bit to stimulation by the nurses and moved her right side.

I have not given up hope or faith... I want her to come home and be whole again. I have called so many prayer lines asking for help because I know the power of prayer. If you know of any prayer line that is international, please let me know. I will forever remember the prayers you sent for “Sherryl” and the power those prayers had, will you please do the same for “Lori”? God Bless you and Thank you for listening to me. Dearest Pegita,
Thank you so much for letting all the Prayer Warriors know what's going on with my sister Lori. I have been waiting all day for an update and just got off the phone with her oldest son “ Freddie “... He said that there has not been much of a change, BUT she does respond to pin pricks and pinches (which tells me that she has feelings in her limbs and is not brain dead).. her oxygen level is down to 35% compared to 100% she has been on for the last week, and she is breathing a little on her own, her temp is down to 99.7. I told my nephew not to let the doctors discourage him as they have approached him about making arrangements to take her off the ventilator and feeding tube. He said he told the doctors that there is no way they are taking her off of anything, and that we just know that she is going to come out of this. The fact that she is responding to anything at this point is testimony that the prayers are at work and God hears them all. So, please keep the prayers going Lori’s way for a full recovery. I don't know how to respond to each wonderful prayer and email that is being sent, is there a way to let everyone know how she is doing at the same time? instead of trying to answer each one separately? I want to Thank each and everyone of you for your support and prayers, they mean so much. I will keep all of you updated as I hear the news, it’s hard because of the time change as I am 3 hrs ahead of Calif, and waiting for news is so difficult.

The latest update I have at this moment, since I spoke with Jon last night, is that Lori has beat the Sepsis! The infection is gone! I am waiting to hear more as it is still early in Calif.. but I am so amazed at the healing that has taken place in such a short period of time, the power of Prayer is amazing. Thank You all so much, please keep the prayers going up for Lori as she not out of the woods yet, but everything looks better with each passing moment. I will update later tonight after Jon calls me and will let everyone know what's going on. They still don't know how much damage was done due to the strokes, so I am praying that she retains her eyesight.

Prayers going up. I just wanted to say how awesome it is that there are so many prayer warriors on FR....THANK YOU. God has certainly given some the gift of being a prayer warrior. Some people will say “I’ll pray for you” and then some people do! It is a huge gift, albeit a quiet one sometimes. Prayer works......the outcome is God’s will but it works! I am just in awe of all of you. God bless and understand that your prayers posted touch many.

My heart is heavy as I just got off the phone with the hospital and Lori’s oldest son “Freddie. Lori had a bad night last night, some sort of respiratory problem and her oxygen level is back up to 50%... she was breathing in and out very quickly, probably due to pain, so they put her on a morphine drip...and they have not moved her out of ICU.
They had told Freddie that eventually they will have to remove the vent and give he a Trach tube, along with a feeding tube thru the stomach, and continue with the morphine drip, and move her to a different facility... but didn't say what kind, as more than likely she would be there for the rest of her life and then gradually let her go. Her finger tips ( RT hand only) are black and look like raisins, and her the toes on her right foot are black also.. she has gang green, so they will have to remove her toes and fingers, but cannot do it now as her white blood cells are up and there is still some infection.
Freddie was told that they cannot leave the vent tube in for too long (never more than 3 weeks or so) because it causes problems with the esophagus, the Trach is an easy procedure but much more permanent. The nurse I spoke with told me it was her opinion that Lori is not going to come out of this or ever be off the vent, the stroke was on the left side of the brain with some scattering which is why it affected both sides of Lori’s body, they did a Echo Cardio Gram and found some vegetative stuff that came from the heart valve ( plaque that had broken off and caused the blood clot) which went to the brain. Nurse told me that they usually will not know the extent of damage caused by he stroke for a month or 2, as one EEG right after another will not show show much change right away. Lori has also just started having seizures and is on seizure medication.
Lori needs a Miracle, and she needs one right now. I am beside myself,, I am numb,, and I am so scared,, tears just wont come anymore. Please everyone, pray, pray, and pray some more. Just when we thought that she was getting a bit better I get this news and my heart is broken. I will know more later on tonight and will keep all of you posted. God Bless all of you, you have been a great source of strength for me.

Let her know it was your healing, as you are the true Doctor of us all—nothing is impossible with you. Please send the Comforter to give comfort to the family, to instill in them courage and hope, and to wipe away the tears.

Update on Lori.
It does not look good. The Sepsis has come back and they gave Lori another round of XiGris, a powerful drug that can have many side affects including intercranial bleeding, but if it helped her once before maybe it can help her again.My youngest Nephew “David” told me that his MOM responds when they stroke her forhead and she trys to reach up to touch them... so I know that Lori can hear and understand what the kids are telling her... she is not BRAIN DEAD, and I dont want to hear anything different from the doctors. Most of the doctors these days are to quick to pull the plug and say thats it. The doctors have requested a meeting today at 3pm calif time when the familey can get together and talk with the doctors. I was told by Jon that her breathing was erratic and that she seemed to spasm when trying to take a breath. If anyone out there knows how I could get a flight out to Calif at little or no cost please let me know. Money is tight and I too am somewhat disabled (un-able to walk without a rollator) (degenerative bone disease) so would need to have the help of my 16 yr old son to go with me. I called American Airlines and asked about berevement flights and the lowest fare was $749.00 per person, US Air does not off berevement flights nor does Delta. I was told to call “Travelers Aid” in any major city close to me (Charlotte NC) but no one has ever heard of it. I tried call the American Red Cross because I know they help out in so many different ways, but being that this is Saturday,there was no-one there to answer my qustions,,,, so if anyone can point me in the right direction as who to call for info, it would be greatly apppreciated. Please keep the Prayers going for Lori... She needs a Miracle.
I will keep you all updated as soon as the family meeting with the doctors is over.
