Help- my sister was bit by an ObamaMoose!

Posted on 08/03/2009 1:42:09 PM PDT by the Fun in Fundamentalist

Howdy all, I'm a long-time lurker, occasional poster here on FR. I’ve always enjoyed the good articles, lively debate and excellent resources for conservatives here, so I’m taking the liberty of bringing a slight “issue” to y’all to see what you think.

Recently (around the start of summer, about two months ago) my younger sister (aged 22) started talking about a young man she’d met in one of her Communications classes. She said he was very nice, handsome, smart, and it was obvious that she was starting to take an interest in him. About a month ago, they went out on a date, and just now, she changed her Facebook status to reflect that she was “in a relationship” with this gentleman.

I clicked on his profile name, and noticed with more than a little dread and disbelief that his political views were “Very Liberal” and his fan pages were for 0bama, Students for Obama, etc. A lot of his favorite books were by Naomi Klein, Al Franken, Howard Zinn, and the other “intelligentsia” that the Left loves to trot out.

I haven’t met this gentleman yet, but we’re all supposed to have dinner at my parent’s home tomorrow evening. Any ideas on how I should react to this? My parents raised my sister and myself to honor God, country, and family first, and I’m almost a little hurt that she’s bringing home “the enemy.” I’m torn between wanting to correct her thinking like an older brother can vs. just letting it go, but I can’t really bear the thought of my sister turning into an Obamabot herself. She’s of the college age at a generally liberal campus, so I’m worried she’s entering a Leftist phase at the behest of this kid.

So, Freepers- how should I handle this? What would you do?

Just chat him up by talking about yourself and toss him a Q off of it...”I used to carry a Kimber Stainless but now I’ve gone back to my old Smith and Wesson 41 magnum, uh, what do YOU carry?

Last weekend the mosquitos were so bad when we were out on maneuvers, uh, what militia column are YOU a member of?

Last November I field dressed this buck and later shot a bobcat using the gut pile as bait, uh, what kind of hunting do YOU do?

After a similar experience, I recommend no political discussions.

This is the last best advice you will get on this subject.

This is a guy right?
I didn’t know O-males liked girls. I knew they acted like girls, talked like girls, had feeeeeeelings like girls. Alot of them dress like girls and know what color mauve is.
I knew they had an impecable fashion sense but couldn’t start a chainsaw and have never even seen a 1/2inch extended anvil impact gun. I knew that they have incredibly soft skin and think chewing tobacco is “icky”...... But LIKE GIRLS?
Huh, thats a new one on me.

Re: “In case you haven’t heard this before, I’ll see if I can remember.

“If you’re in your youth and you’re not a Lberal, you have no heart”

“If in your over forty and not a Conservative, you have no soul”

Something to that effect.”

I worked with a man once who said the following:

“Everyone’s a Democrat until they get a little money!”

I always liked that one...........

You said — I said that to my granddaughter’s boyfriend—touch her and you’re dead. But we haven’t talked politics, LOL.

Yeah... well, those sorts of things have a way of backfiring these days. They talk and that comes out (that this is what was said), the relative gets mad that someone else is trying to “run her life”... then all of a sudden good thinking goes out the door and she acts with a “I’ll show them” type of attitude. I’ve seen that one.

This is not an easy situation to be in, actually. If someone is of that age and you have to actually say something to them and/or explain things or get them to realize what’s going on..., it’s just too late at that point.

And if you think that you’ll know what is going on... ummm..., think again... (been around too many of the young people and how they don’t let their parents know the true story of what’s going on...).

You would have to keep her locked up like the Muslims to be sure... :-)

My sister-in-law and her metro-sexual, d-bag husband are flaming NYC liberals. Whenever we are approaching a family event, I always tell my wife that I won’t start anything but I will damn well finish it if they do!

I say get your facts together. If he dares to bring up an issue, calmly counter with facts. Try to stay calm and stick with reasonable and thoughful factual responses. Let him be the one getting flustered. Give him enough rope to hang himself. Then pat your little sister on the head and tell her lesson learned.

She just turned 17 and this is her first boyfriend. He’s a nice enough kid but kicked out of his mom’s and then his dad’s house. She’s pretty sweet and innocent and I want her to stay that way. I’ve talked to her over the past few years, like her parents have, about this kind of stuff and how important it is to get an education of some sort and then a boyfriend, but you can’t legislate love...sigh.

Plaster your entire house and lawn with conservative signs and banners.

Have FreeRepublic displayed on any available computer screens.

Have the whole family wearing “PALIN 2012” shirts and when he comes in the house, embrace him tightly, with a charmingly sinister smile and say “Welcome to the family, Bro!”.

Maybe he’ll run away...:)

Why is your sister looking twice at a raging lib? The smell alone would put me off. I suggest that this fellow is NOT the problem, but a symptom.

Let her go. It’s her choice who she dates. Maybe she’s not as conservative as you think?

Seriously, there’s not much you can do about it. It’s your sister’s life. I’ve known couples who have been married for 20+ years where one spouse was very conversative and the other was very liberal. It happens.

I’m in the same situation as you are. My cousin and her husband, a brilliant math professor, voted for Zero. However, they are beginning to understand the concept of “you can only spend what you have.” The fact that the prof won’t get his cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) and may start receiving IOUs for his salary really has him ticked.

The fact that my mom, a fairly conservative person, helped bail them out of some recent high debt (with a very low-interest loan) probably helped change their minds a little. The prof and my cousin seem much more skeptical of big government these days.

Now, that’s definitely not a good sign... something is not right there.

Do you know why he was kicked out of his mom’s and dad’s house? Has he said? Has your daughter said? That’s one helluva red flag. I’d say there’s more to this than meets the eye.

Your daughter just turned 17?
