Help- my sister was bit by an ObamaMoose!

Posted on 08/03/2009 1:42:09 PM PDT by the Fun in Fundamentalist

Howdy all, I'm a long-time lurker, occasional poster here on FR. I’ve always enjoyed the good articles, lively debate and excellent resources for conservatives here, so I’m taking the liberty of bringing a slight “issue” to y’all to see what you think.

Recently (around the start of summer, about two months ago) my younger sister (aged 22) started talking about a young man she’d met in one of her Communications classes. She said he was very nice, handsome, smart, and it was obvious that she was starting to take an interest in him. About a month ago, they went out on a date, and just now, she changed her Facebook status to reflect that she was “in a relationship” with this gentleman.

I clicked on his profile name, and noticed with more than a little dread and disbelief that his political views were “Very Liberal” and his fan pages were for 0bama, Students for Obama, etc. A lot of his favorite books were by Naomi Klein, Al Franken, Howard Zinn, and the other “intelligentsia” that the Left loves to trot out.

I haven’t met this gentleman yet, but we’re all supposed to have dinner at my parent’s home tomorrow evening. Any ideas on how I should react to this? My parents raised my sister and myself to honor God, country, and family first, and I’m almost a little hurt that she’s bringing home “the enemy.” I’m torn between wanting to correct her thinking like an older brother can vs. just letting it go, but I can’t really bear the thought of my sister turning into an Obamabot herself. She’s of the college age at a generally liberal campus, so I’m worried she’s entering a Leftist phase at the behest of this kid.

So, Freepers- how should I handle this? What would you do?

She’s 22. She’s going to get hurt a lot more times by a lot more people before she wises up. Nothing you can do about it.

Let her live it. Experience is the best teacher.

If you’re young and not liberal, you have no heart.
If you’re old and not conservative, you have no brain.

Tell him if he’s going to vote like a woman then he has to put the seat down.

Just about all my living relatives (my folks were conservative, but they have passed on) are irreligious libs, which is bizarre to me, because they are all college-educated, make good livings and therefore don’t take welfare. They also drink, and my wife and I don’t drink. In short, we have nothing in common (well one thing — my wife and I also live comfortably and don’t live off the goobermint).

We very seldom see them now, because as you can see, we have basically nothing in common, except a little blood, which is close to irrelevant to me. We never even get together for holidays.

We live thousands of miles apart and things are peachy. I hope none of them ever move to the same city my wife and I live in, as we like it here and would hate to move somewhere else (I’m only half kidding).

I’ve seen something similar in people I know.

Newcomer to the fam is typical left-wing nitwit, repeats all the usual BushCheney fantasy stuff. I say little because he’s not smart enough to argue with, and anyway he’s a nice guy even if dim.

The guy starts, over time, to go to church because the fam does. Eventually gets saved. Gets tired of the dead-end jobs he’s been doing, winds up out in the oil fields, finds out that nothing he’s ever believed about the oil business was true.

Over time he starts talking like a Repub, and I never tried to convert him. Church+responsibility+real-world-experience. Works ninety percent of the time.

On the upside, maybe its just a sex thing and after a few months she will move on. No need to get out the big guns ‘cause she’s got a liberal boy toy.

If you love her, as you say you do, and I believe you, then you will confront her about this guy at the earliest convienient oppurtunity.

Just do it in the most loving, but firm, manner you can.

Do not hesitate!

He sounds like he's off the deep end if he's swallowing what Al Franken is selling.

Got a good Reagan t-shirt you could wear that night?

Nice, perhaps. Smart? The evidence suggests otherwise.

Blood is thicker than political waters.

Since Leftist political beliefs often also include a disbelief in God, not for everyone -- read my post #64

Embrace him. Treat him like a long lost relative ( because he could become one). Speak intelligently and in a moderate tone ( note the term tone not meaning content). Speak the truth in a measured and even manner. Do this every time you see him. Over time one of two things will happen 1) your sister will relize that he is a jerk or 2) he will realize that she is from a nutso family and leave her. Either way you have been polite. Moreover, there is just the chance that he will perhaps change his mind and then you have won.

Never speak, when you can nod. Never threaten a sister’s or daughter’s Moonbat boyfriend. Just make sure he sees you getting out of the FRONT seat of a Police Car.

You have no control over what this guys wants to believe. You should talk to your sister. She’s the one who has to be with him, not you.

Try the old ‘hey, nice to meet you, and if you ever hurt my sister in any way, I’ll kill you’

Your post reminded me of the Bill Engvall skit where he tells his daughter's date that if he hurts her, he'll live to regret it, and then says "I don't mind going back to prison."

My daughter, who is very conservative, dated a liberal for a while. It made family gatherings interesting. She eventually dumped him, because he’d gotten too clingy in the relationship, and she’d “had enough.” He did not take it well, at all.

My niece is on her way to med school. She was completely apolitical (but on a liberal campus) before the 2008 election. I started giving her some info on Sarah. She identified with her.

She recently had a date with a recent grad. He was a shill for everything Obama (esp healthcare) and she said "I just don't see this going anywhere" and that was it.

I saw a t-shirt online that might eliminate future events: "Conservative Chick: Hot, Right, Armed"
