Debra Medina, Glen Beck and the Northwoods Truthers
The Futue of Freedom Foundation ^ | February 12, 2010 | Jacob G. Hornberger

Posted on 02/19/2010 6:42:37 AM PST by Robert Drobot

In an obvious ambush of Texas Republican gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina, Fox News commentator Glen Beck told Medina in a radio interview that he had received emails from listeners saying that she was a 9/11 truther, that is, a person who believes that the U.S. government was behind the 9/11 attacks.

Medina failed to specifically deny the charge, indicated that she didn’t have an opinion on the matter, stated that some good questions had been raised about the issue, and said that the American people had not seen all the evidence. Medina later issued a statement stating that she has never been involved in the 9/11 truth movement and affirming her conviction that the U.S. government was not behind the 9/11 attacks.

After the interview was over, Beck and his on-air cohorts began yucking it up, scratching off any prospects for Medina, who has recently soared from 4 percent in the polls to 24 percent, to win the race. “Wow!” Beck exclaimed, “The fastest way back to four percent. I think I can write her off the list.”

Beck’s mindset was precisely the type of mindset that I described in my September 17, 2009, article “Operation Northwoods and the 9/11 Truthers.” That article addressed the mindset of Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer regarding the 9/11 truthers, a mindset that is clearly the same as Beck’s.

Northwoods is just another of many thousands of similar plans, called Military Operations Plans. The military takes just about any hypothetical situation and develops a MOP for it. We have MOPs for the invasions of England, Mexico, Canada, our own states, etc..you name it. If a situation can be conceived, there’s likely a MOP to address it. It would be criminal to not plan, and think, and ask “what if” and work out contingencies. Just because we have these MOPs doesn’t mean that they would ever be used.

Exactly. There are even MOPs for alien invasion, viruses wiping out half the population, and solar flares destroying our entire electrical grid. There are people whose full time job it is to think up every possible thing that could happen in order to delve a plan around it.

Only later after she realised the mistake did she issue a statement.

Yet, she then gave the same answer (similar but worse) in two other interviews that week. In one she compares being a truther to being a birther.

Here is one of the others.

She’s crap-city in my book. IMHO, Texas should steer clear of her.

I have noticed the same transition by Beck. He did say several weeks ago that he was going to be doing something different. He begs for people to read and honor the Constitution and turns around and denigrates those who would see the Constitution honored and defended. Something is goibg on that Beck,BOR, Hannity, et. al. want to avoid abd/or put down. WHY?

Too bad you villainous Libertarian-haters, I voted MEDINA in the Primary anyway! Perry is a RINO Democrat ex-Democrat and full-time RINO. I don't think for a minute that Beck interview wasn't staged for effect. Beck is a supposed Libertarian, but turned his back on his principles here, just like Palin supporting McCain. People give Palin a pass, but isn't back-scratching politics what we Tea Partiers hate about Washington. Beck continues to trash Medina daily, to his own detriment! She said a lot of good things about the Constitution, taxes, values and principles. A vote for Medina will force a Perry-KBH runoff, and Medina will be out, Perry will win the primary, but in the future he will need to be looking over his shoulder!

She has been with a lot of Texans for a while. Her only claim to fame before running for gov was suing the Texas Republican Party over some minor procedural issues to try to block electors from being seated at the State convention because Ron Paul lost. She loves to play games like this.

I took a course in National Security law in law school, and read a case of a man charged with hijacking an airliner to Cuba. Honestly, it was pretty much the coolest case I read in law school (unfortunately, I’d have to look up the name of the case, so I can’t give you a citation at the moment ... but it might as well have been the U.S. vs. Jack Bauer — it was that cool).

Guy hijacked a commercial airliner and forced it to land in Cuba to drop him off. Nobody was killed or hurt. 20-years-later, the same guy was nailed in Virginia on a traffic stop (I think), and picked up on the hijacking warrant. The government brought charges against the hijacker.

The hijacker claimed he was an operative for the CIA, and that he hijacked the plane under direct government orders as a method of disavowing involvment with the American government while covertly inserting himself into Cuba as an undercover. The CIA was subpoenaed by the Defense and the government. The CIA responded that they refused to testify due to national security constraints, and recommended that charges be dropped. All charges were dropped.

Seriously badass case.

I have no doubt that similar scenarios have occurred on multiple occasions. That the government is involved in covert operations is unquestionable. That the law must be stretched on occasion for those operations is also likely unquestionable.

This does not detract from the absolute and unequivocal absurdity of the 9/11 “truth” movement. It is, to its very core, an anti-American propaganda movement, and anyone that gives it any credence is ineligible for office, in my opinion.

Why do people keep referring to Medina as a Libertarian. She is a Republican, heck, she was a Republican Party precinct chair. The libertarians had a candidate to vote for in Jeff Daiell.

That simple question is only an ambush to someone wanting to hide their views.

It was supposed to be an easy softball for her to stop the silly rumors.

Instead it revealed a view and political squirming that helped Texas see who Medina really is.

That's how it seemed. She blew it big time.

For anyone who is so unfamiliar with Internet Forum discussions, let me explain that people frequently express their o=p=i=n=i=o=n=s on messagethreads AND my opinion of k00k Glenn Beck is execeptionally NEGATIVE.

...I liked some of her positions, but that she really messed up with the truther issue.

"Aside from that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"

People express “o=p=i=n=i=o=n=s”? Imagine that. Who knew?

Thank you for enlightening us, O Opinionated One.

That reminds me of another saying.. opinions are like a certain part of the anatomy. Everyone has one and they are mostly full of something.

A reply to “the individual” addressed to “all”.

How peculiar.

Opinions are usually judged more credible when some evidence justifying them is presented.
