Villagers Pull One-Ton Crocodile Out of Creek in Philippines

MANILA, Philippines -- Villagers and veteran hunters have captured a one-ton saltwater crocodile which they plan to make the star of a planned ecotourism park in a southern Philippine town, an official said Monday.
Mayor Edwin Cox Elorde said dozens of villagers and experts ensnared the 21-foot male crocodile along a creek in Bunawan township in Agusan del Sur province after a three-week hunt. It could be one of the largest crocodiles to be captured alive in recent years, he said, quoting local crocodile experts.
Elorde said the crocodile killed a water buffalo in an attack witnessed by villagers last month and was also suspected of having attacked a fisherman who went missing in July.
He said he sought the help of experts at a crocodile farm in western Palawan province.
"We were nervous but it's our duty to deal with a threat to the villagers," Elorde told The Associated Press by telephone. "When I finally stood before it, I couldn't believe my eyes."
After initial sightings at a creek, the hunters set four traps, which the crocodile destroyed. They then used sturdier traps using steel cables, one of which finally caught the enormous reptile late Saturday, he said.
About 100 people had to pull the crocodile, which weighs about 2,370 pounds, from the creek to a clearing where a crane lifted it into a truck, he said.

From the size of that crocodile I would venture to say a number of people have gone missing over the years.

I thought of that too! Looks like the croc is “fat” from devouring something..or even some people.
Enough there to make my dad a couple of gun boats (size 15).
The largest American Alligator on record was taken just south of me in Iberia Parish, LA. It measured just over 19’ and weighed in at 2,200 lbs.
Crocodile has a light delicate flavour which is complimented by tropical fruits. Strong marinades are not recommended. Do not overcook.
Crocodile with Mango and Basil Sauce
300gm crocodile tail or body fillet, cut into thin slices
30gm peanut oil
20gm basil leaves
20gm parsley
5gm chopped garlic
20ml white wine vinegar
200ml olive oil
1 mango, stone removed
Salt and pepper
Method
Heat peanut oil in a frying pan, saute seasoned crocodile pieces for about 3 minutes then set aside and keep warm. Blend basil, garlic, parsley, vinegar and olive oil in a food processor until smooth
Slice mango thinly and arrange on a plate. Place crocodile slices in the centre, drizzle basil sauce around the plate and garnish with fresh herbs
They may have eliminated hunger in their village for a month or more, not to mention keeping extra mouths to feed (a good thing from my perspective, since I'm pro-life - not a liberal).
