In light of what's going on in our culture today, it is fascinating to hear President Nixon very politically incorrectly discussing this controversial topic with John Ehrlichman and Bob Haldeman back 40 years ago. Today, he'd be charged with "hate speech"

That was very interesting! At first I thought maybe it was an eisode of All In The Family where Archie was sticking up for Nixon and the tapes and also about gays. But it’s even better.

Nixon commenting on a show he’d seen on TV (All In The Family) and talking about gays being glorified on TV.

Thanks for posting!

Very interesting. I love that he does not know the name of the show. It reminds me of myself when I’m channel surfing. I watch a little and turn the channel with no clue as to the title of what I just switched from.

Nixon seemed to have had a more public spirited attitude toward homosexuality: he wasn't concerned about individual people going to hell but the country becoming effeminate and losing its vigor.

It seems increasingly hard in America to make the moral case against homosexuality. Now that gays are allowed in the military, so long as things don't go to hell in a hand basket, the public interest case may be more difficult to make as well.

We're just going to have to hang around until the whole thing crashes and wait to pick up the pieces.

Very interesting. I chuckled a few times. Overall, Nixon was absolutely right in what he said on those tapes.

I wouldn’t shake hands with most people from San francisco, either.

Fascinating look into history. I wish we had other presidential tapes.

Nixon was hated by the liberals and the liberal media and he hated them in return.

But he was still a moderate RINO Republican who used the Fairness Doctrine against all enemies from NBC News to fundamentalist Christian radio preachers who advocated a military victory in Vietnam instead of his “peace with honor.”

Indeed. There’s a lot more Nixon tapes on youtube on many subjects:

Love him or hate him(or both), he’s probably the most interesting(not the best, just the most interesting) President of the last 50 years.

Here's the writing to the president episode (sans opening theme and credits) Nixon was talking about:

All In The Family: "Writing The President"

And here's the homosexual episode he was talking about (the guys name is Steve, not Freddy):

All In The Family: "Judging Books By Covers"

‘Here’s the writing to the president episode (sans opening theme and credits) Nixon was talking about:

I’m not exactly a fan of the series but that episode where Archie and Meathead both write letters to Nixon is probably my favorite of the episodes I’ve seen. I like Archie’s fantasy where he imagines Nixon’s reading his letter on TV. It also makes for an interesting time capsule of the period when there were far fewer media options and when true conservatives didn’t have as many outlets like talk radio and the internet to respond to liberal attacks.
