We have a date now, but no place yet. It wouldn’t surprise me if the location is Bologna, Italy — since that is where the plant is currently located. It would take a lot of time and expense to move it from its current location, and if he has it running stably at the moment it could be risky to move the whole thing at this late moment in case there was some damage or disruption in the shipping process.
So there’s another date for our calendars now — it will be interesting to see what happens between now and the 28th.

Data Indicates That Rossi’s October 6th E-Cat Demonstration Showed Nuclear Reaction [Slides/graphics at the link for the article below]

As the dust clears and the chatter subsides, and we take a look at the facts pertaining to Andrea Rossi’s October 6th demonstration of the energy catalyzer, data collected indicates that unless Rossi has been able to rig an extremely sophisticated trick (which no one who attended the demo has accused him of) he indeed managed to show that he has discovered a new source of nuclear power.
One of the most clear representations of the data collected at the test can be seen in the graphs and table below. The overall result shows that there was a clear overall energy gain — 33.6 MJ in, and 101.3 MJ out.
In addition to the overall energy in/energy out picture we have the remarkable fact of a three and a half hour time period in which water was constantly boiling — with the electrical input which had been used earlier in the test turned off.
One of the clearest pieces of analysis of the event that I have found comes from Jed Rothwell who posts on the vortex-l mailing list. Of this data, Rothwell comments:
Nothing happens until 13:22 when the steam begins to flow through the heat exchanger. At 15:13 output is a little higher than input, even though there is a great deal of heat unaccounted for, especially the water from the condensed steam, which they poured down the drain. At 15:50 the power is cut off. If there had been no source of anomalous heat, the power would have fallen off rapidly and monotonically, at the same rate it did after 19:55. It would have approached the zero line by 17:25. Actually, it would have approached zero before that, based on Newton’s law of cooling. In other words, it would have been stone cold after 3 hours. During that time, 1.8 tons of water went through the cooling loop. It is inconceivable that an object of this size with no power input could have remained at the same high temperature the whole time. Yet Lewan reports that the surface of the reactor was still hot, and boiling could still be heard inside it. As you see, the temperature did not fall. It went up at 16:26. The cooling water flow rate was unchanged, so only a source of heat could have caused this. You can ignore the thermocouple data, and look only at the fact that it continued to boil for more than 3 hours after the power was turned off, and the reactor surface remained hot. That alone is rock solid proof.
There had not been too much in the way of public comment from those who attended the event, but Focus magazine reports that the attendees seemed to be impressed by what they saw, and ended the day with a round of applause which Andrea Rossi said was one of the greatest moments of his life.

Much of it is in Italian, but there are sections in English: At 5:11 Professor Roland Petterson of Uppsala University speaks of his reaction and the upcoming testing he will be doing in Sweden; at 11:18 Rossi speaks at the conclusion of the demonstration.
The debate will no doubt continue — not everyone is convinced at this point, but taken at face value, to me it appears clear that Andrea Rossi’s energy catalyzer is not powered by chemical processes; Andrea Rossi seems to have discovered a means of creating a new form of nuclear reaction.

This stuff is FASCINATING! I truly hope we are in the dawn of the next great age of man with this invention.
The University of Bologna is one of the oldest and most prestigious in Europe. Not that this proves anything, but no, it’s no joke. The list of attendees at the Oct. 6 event is impressive (although I note it lacks Drs. Essen and Kullander, and the Nobel laureate Dr. Josephson). If the E-cat is not real it either has a really big conspiracy involving many PhD physicists, or those same physicists are less competent than a random assembly of anonymous online skeptics. (Which is conceivable, but I wouldn’t presume that way.)
Kevmo (*ping*) has a very good ping list on this subject so I have happily left it to him.

60 years ago we kids used to heat bricks red-hot in our coal furnace in the wintertime, put them by tongs into the cutter`s steel foot boxes to keep our feet warm. When we returned after a 2 hour jaunt through the snow later, we would take out the bricks by tongs and throw them into a large pot of water which would immediately start to boil for a long time.

How so? Are they merely observers? Are they compensated in any way?
It was the first university in the world, which signaled the beginning of western civilization in my opinion. Its association with this scam is a shame, though it's unclear what their association is. Are they merely renting space, or is it official and academic. I've seen no evidence of press releases from the university acknowledging their association, just the usual blog posts.
No, that sort of thing has been easily ruled out. A passive heat source would have cooled off early into the self-powered portion of the test. The more relevant possibility is that the 'mystery box' that was not opened was large enough to have some kind of mundane chemical fuel source that kept reacting at an even rate, producing the heat. But it would have to be something that gives off no fumes and results in the unit weighing the same before and after (that was checked and reported by the observers).
So far as I know none of them has issued negative statements since attending the Oct. 6 event. The reports of strong applause certainly indicate they were happy with what they saw at the demonstration, as a group. So are some or all of them involved in a conspiracy with Rossi? Or are they being lazy and passive in accepting what Rossi shows them, in contrast to all the eagle-eyed, hard-working skeptics out there?
It doesn't have to be sophisticated at all. Some of the biggest and most professional magic tricks are very simple once how they are done is revealed.
That's what it boils down to, nobody knows, except for Rossi, who admittedly has character issues.

That's called "getting rid of the evidence".
How do we know that it was water he was pouring down the drain. There are other possibilities. For example, Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) reacts with nickel (among other metals) to produce heat, steam and Oxygen (O2). From what I've read, a 35% solution of Hydrogen Peroxide (commonly available as a sterilizing solution for the food industry) would produce as much energy as Rossi claims to be producing with his device. Has anyone actually tested the liquid being put into the device to prove that it is pure water? Has anyone tested the resulting condensed steam? (Apparently not, if they were pouring it down the drain.)
Maybe Rossi has made the breakthrough of the century. But he is working hard to avoid doing any tests that would eliminate the possibility of fraud. It is appropriate to be very skeptical of Rossi and his e-cat unless/until he allows the system to be testing with proper controls of everything going in to, and coming out of, his device.
The first water line then went to a drain. Meanwhile the 2nd body of water also went to another drain. One drain was inside, the other outside. It does strike me as odd that they didn't just run them to the same drain (why not if they are just water)?
I recall someone writing/calculating that 1.8 tons of water ran through the E-cat during the 'self-powered' portion of the demonstration. That would be a lot of water. Now, thinking through what you said, the hydrogen peroxide would have to be in this first water line, because the observers agree the heat was coming from the E-cat itself, not just appearing in the heat exchanger. This means the 2nd water line can be ruled out as far as anything suspicious goes.
You mention a 35% mix of hydrogen peroxide, but that would require almost 1000 lbs. of hydrogen peroxide in the water-in line if the 1.8 ton comment is correct. The E-cat itself weighed only ~200 lbs., so the hydrogen peroxide would have to have been fed in, not stored within the E-cat for this test.
I'm not enough of a chemist, so I defer to you and others: Could hydrogen peroxide be mixed in at a much more dilute level with a very large quantity of water and still provide a heating effect such as was observed? Otherwise, it doesn't seem terribly plausible that Rossi managed to plumb the water line and add a thousand pounds of hydrogen peroxide without anyone noticing. Conceivable? Maybe. Can anyone add more insight pro or con?
I have only just started reading through it, but it looks like it's going to be interesting.
