Read Aldous Huxley’s review of 1984 he sent to George Orwell

Photobucket

Several months after George Orwell's dystopian classic 1984 was published in 1949, Aldous Huxley sent a letter to his former French pupil. The Brave New World author had received a copy of 1984 from the publisher at Orwell's behest, but his poor eyesight prevented him from finishing the book for several months.

In his letter to Orwell, the fifty-year-old author compared the two books' screwed-up futures and saw the Orwellian Oceanic dystopia as a predecessor to his own World State. Wrote Huxley in October 1949:

Agreeing with all that the critics have written of it, I need not tell you, yet once more, how fine and how profoundly important the book is. May I speak instead of the thing with which the book deals - the ultimate revolution? The first hints of a philosophy of the ultimate revolution - the revolution which lies beyond politics and economics, and which aims at total subversion of the individual's psychology and physiology - are to be found in the Marquis de Sade, who regarded himself as the continuator, the consummator, of Robespierre and Babeuf. The philosophy of the ruling minority in Nineteen Eighty-Four is a sadism which has been carried to its logical conclusion by going beyond sex and denying it. Whether in actual fact the policy of the boot-on-the-face can go on indefinitely seems doubtful. My own belief is that the ruling oligarchy will find less arduous and wasteful ways of governing and of satisfying its lust for power, and these ways will resemble those which I described in Brave New World. I have had occasion recently to look into the history of animal magnetism and hypnotism, and have been greatly struck by the way in which, for a hundred and fifty years, the world has refused to take serious cognizance of the discoveries of Mesner, Braid, Esdaile, and the rest.

Partly because of the prevailing materialism and partly because of prevailing respectability, nineteenth-century philosophers and men of science were not willing to investigate the odder facts of psychology for practical men, such as politicians, soldiers and policemen, to apply in the field of government. Thanks to the voluntary ignorance of our fathers, the advent of the ultimate revolution was delayed for five or six generations. Another lucky accident was Freud's inability to hypnotize successfully and his consequent disparagement of hypnotism. This delayed the general application of hypnotism to psychiatry for at least forty years. But now psycho-analysis is being combined with hypnosis; and hypnosis has been made easy and indefinitely extensible through the use of barbiturates, which induce a hypnoid and suggestible state in even the most recalcitrant subjects.

Within the next generation I believe that the world's rulers will discover that infant conditioning and narco-hypnosis are more efficient, as instruments of government, than clubs and prisons, and that the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging and kicking them into obedience. In other words, I feel that the nightmare of Nineteen Eighty-Four is destined to modulate into the nightmare of a world having more resemblance to that which I imagined in Brave New World. The change will be brought about as a result of a felt need for increased efficiency. Meanwhile, of course, there may be a large scale biological and atomic war - in which case we shall have nightmares of other and scarcely imaginable kinds.

Truly the cheerful correspondance. Who needs a game of Centrifugal Bumble-Puppy to raise their spirits?

I knew Obama and his history was fraudulent, when that unspeakably phony “original” BC was foating around. Now anyone who watched that presentation on ABC TV,CH 15 Phoenix,KNOWS that Obama is a total FRAUD, and almost certainly was born elsewhere.

I believe the working title was "The Last Man on Earth". Could be my faulty memory though. Thanks Pharmboy.

Denial of those discoveries is one of the foundation stones of the skepticultist movement.

Nineteen Eighty-Four
by George Orwell
(from chapter 17)
On a scarlet-draped platform an orator of the Inner Party, a small lean man with disproportionately long arms and a large bald skull over which a few lank locks straggled, was haranguing the crowd. A little Rumpelstiltskin figure, contorted with hatred, he gripped the neck of the microphone with one hand while the other, enormous at the end of a bony arm, clawed the air menacingly above his head. His voice, made metallic by the amplifiers, boomed forth an endless catalogue of atrocities, massacres, deportations, lootings, rapings, torture of prisoners, bombing of civilians, lying propaganda, unjust aggressions, broken treaties. It was almost impossible to listen to him without being first convinced and then maddened. At every few moments the fury of the crowd boiled over and the voice of the speaker was drowned by a wild beast-like roaring that rose uncontrollably from thousands of throats. The most savage yells of all came from the schoolchildren. The speech had been proceeding for perhaps twenty minutes when a messenger hurried on to the platform and a scrap of paper was slipped into the speaker's hand. He unrolled and read it without pausing in his speech. Nothing altered in his voice or manner, or in the content of what he was saying, but suddenly the names were different. Without words said, a wave of understanding rippled through the crowd. Oceania was at war with Eastasia! The next moment there was a tremendous commotion. The banners and posters with which the square was decorated were all wrong! Quite half of them had the wrong faces on them. It was sabotage ! The agents of Goldstein had been at work ! There was a riotous interlude while posters were ripped from the walls, banners torn to shreds and trampled underfoot. The Spies performed prodigies of activity in clambering over the rooftops and cutting the streamers that fluttered from the chimneys. But within two or three minutes it was all over. The orator, still gripping the neck of the microphone, his shoulders hunched forward, his free hand clawing at the air, had gone straight on with his speech. One minute more, and the feral roars of rage were again bursting from the crowd. The Hate continued exactly as before, except that the target had been changed.

The thing that impressed Winston in looking back was that the speaker had switched from one line to the other actually in midsentence, not only without a pause, but without even breaking the syntax... Oceania was at war with Eastasia : Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia. A large part of the political literature of five years was now completely obsolete.

I remember that Propaganda Analysis was a required course to graduate so that we would understand how we were being lied to. Readers Digest was part of the reading material.

It is worthy to note that that course is no longer required now that the left is in charge.

Thanks for reminding me. We were taught how to analyse advertisements for the same reason.

re post: As for Arpaio, I watched for 1 1/2 hours, while his crew proved, step by step, that the Birth Certificate was a computer manufactured FRAUD. Same with the SS card.Almost nobody covered it.

“The truth is good for you, like sunlight, but too much all at once can really hurt.”

Response: Apparently it was too much for some FReepers (no names needed) to bear.

Considering that the fraudulent BC speaks to rule of law and massive governmental corruption, what amazed me is that the reaction was flat out denial using Alinsky techniques.

I am in awe at Arpaio's bravery.

Sometimes one wonders . . .

Are some conservatives seriously interested in their own welfare and the welfare of the Republic . . .

or just interested in sitting in a circle and . . . (mentally or otherwise) . . .

Or maybe pretending their heart rates are slightly increasing over relatively inconsequential froth as though it were something significant.

Or maybe fantasizing and the like that an extra phone call or two here; a vote or two there . . . will be sufficient to allow them to go back to ‘Dancing with the Stars’ or other chaff of ‘eternal’ [eternally daming] import.

Or maybe they are chronically lost in the delusion that nothing greatly is going to significantly alter our lives . . . OThuga will pass sooner or later . . . WW3 will be averted yet again vs set up, planned and lit off; fallen angels don’t exist or will leave us alone; globalism can’t be as bad as kooks like Quix claim; the one world religion is a myth or won’t involve the Pope; food, circuses and TV will always be available; yadda yadda yadda;

I still pray that may God have mercy on such willful ignorance. Sometimes, more and more frequently . . . I wonder if mercy is warranted.

This wonderful narrative of a true Heavenly experience might well encourage you:

http://www.amazon.com/Heaven-Real-Little-Astounding-ebook/dp/B004A90BXS/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1331138668&sr=1-2

I just reread Colton’s assertions recently. Was just as encouraging the 2nd time.

Very Biblical and practical . . . and congruent with other quality narratives I’ve read.

LUB BRO. Keep the faith. Nothing else is WORTH keeping.

” I am in awe at Arpaio’s bravery.”

His biography is well worth a read. Arpaio has been a fearless warrior all of his life.

BANDLER AND GRINDER were early researchers responsible for it.

They examined what the best therapists and speakers had in common.

Many of the best preachers and public speakers demonstrate facets of Neuro Linguistic Programming ‘naturally,’ without realizing it.

Lots of great preachers—particularly under Holy Spirit anointing can hold thousands of people “spell-bound” for long periods.

And, if my professional cohorts or I examined the videos of such a sermon, we could point out aspects of Neuro Linguistic Programming—whether the speaker was consciously aware of such, or not.

Some of it seems to be hardwired responses of our brains to sequences of data presented in certain ways. Bandler and Grinder examined, labeled and quantified THOSE WAYS. And others have built on their work since.

Where it becomes evil, imho, is when folks consciously !CONTROL! and manipulate others with it in a deliberately destructive way for deliberately destructive goals as a technique . . . a mind-control, brainwashing technique.

For example, MEN’s brains (vs women’s) are uniquely structured in a way that STORIES, PARABLES insert information into men’s brains MOST effectively compared to all other means. Interestingly, Jesus used parables.

It is true, that, IF a wife will construct a story of the information she wants to convey to her hubby . . . into a story—tailored to the field of the hubby’s most passionate interests—whether it’s cars, sports, work, woodworking or whatever—IF THE STORY IS CONSTRUCTED CAREFULLY ENOUGH and delivered properly, ON AVERAGE, hubby will have no defense against the message in the story. The message will be VERY effective.

It also so happens that men and women have less defense against advertising WHEN the advertiser pushes buttons on the 3 following representational systems:

1. visual
2. auditory
3. kinesthetic or touch.

When an advertiser can present an ad which pushes buttons on all 3 of those modalities—particularly over and over in sequence, the ads are much more effective.

And, it turns out, that when two communicators are careful to TRANSLATE thei PRIMARY MODALITY of perceiving and operating in the world—ONE OF THOSE 3—when communicators are careful to TRANSLATE from their personal modality into the modality of their marriage or other partner—THEIR MESSAGES WILL BE HEARD MUCH MORE EASILY AND ACCURATELY.

Anyway—that’s a brief overview.

You managed to absolutely nail the current situation in only a few words. I have seldom heard something that rings so true.

Thanks for your kind reply.

I failed to mention . . . most women are vulnerable to honest, congruent, fitting, non-sexual touch focused, touch laden communications.

However, most women are also hyper-sensitive to any hint of manipulation. They are skilled at dishing it out and at resisting the same toward them. LOL.

So, if a man wishes to use touch laden communciations [can involve using a lot of kinesthetic words—like “I feel . . . “ “warm,” “soft,” “rough,” “smooth,” “hot,” “touching,” “furry,” . . . ]

If a man wishes to use touch laden communications with a woman, he would need to do his best to insure that it was honest, congruent, fitting, authentic, sincere, etc. or it could easily backfire.

One of the favorite homework assignments of some counselors used to be for the squabling couple to always hold hands throughout an argument. Not letting go of each other’s hand at all. It can be a powerful rule change.

Thanks much for your kind words.

God’s best to you and yours.
