The Best Campaign Yard Sign I've Seen Yet a "Bitter Clinger"
GATE ^ | 10/30/12 | Chuck Wolk

This is a campaign sign I saw while driving around Chico this past weekend. I was looking to see how many Obama signs there were. I saw a lot of signs for local and state elections, but very very few for either Obama or Romney. In 2008 the town was painted in Obama signs, but not today. Then I came across a sign that made me stop and get out of my truck. I had take a photo, because it was by far the most unique and big yard sign I saw all day. The the guy, or gal, who put this up must really want Obama out bad. Not many people go through the trouble of making a sign themselves to get their point across. The owner wasn't home so I couldn't talk to him, but I wanted to share it with all my fellow FReepers.

A bitter Clinger, clinging to God, family, and the fragile remnant of what is left of the American system of government that was so wisely set up by our founding fathers. However he is not holding onto his beliefs bitterly, rather he is a humble man who acknowledges that there are things greater than himself. Obama will never understand Americans, because he is not an American. We Americans understand that many have sacrificed all they had so that their descendants could have an opportunity to achieve everything they desire. No, Obama cannot understand this because he only holds contempt for those who love America as the founding fathers envisioned it to be.

For those who are clueless as to the term, "Bitter Clinger". It was Obama who coined the term in 2008 when he told a group of wealthy elite California donors in San Francisco;

"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Back in July, Charles Krauthammer pointed out to Bret Baier, of Fox News, that Obama was running on "fear of the other"--an ironic tactic, he said, given Obama's infamous "bitter clinger" statement (above) about rural Americans. As I said, Obama's worst nightmare is a Bitter Clinger with a ballot.

People remember that Obama referred to guns and religion, but few recall that he also talked about "antipathy to people who aren't like them," Krauthammer explained. And Obama's attack on outsourcing, with its implicit hostility to foreigners, makes full use of that antipathy in an attempt to push the electorate in his direction.

To that, Krauthammer could have added that Obama's entire campaign is based on such fear-mongering--not just between Americans and foreigners, but primarily between rich and poor, black and white, gay and straight--the very divisions Obama promised to transcend when he burst onto the national political scene in 2004.

In fact, Obama has become something of a bitter clinger himself. He refuses to understand that his presidency is in danger because of his policies, and instead blames his failure to communicate his ideas to the American people--who, in their ignorance, still refuse to submit to him. The "antipathy to people who aren't like them" has become, for Obama, a way to explain his political frustrations--and a tool, he believes, to overcome them.

Obama is going down hard.

I am of the opinion that it's just a matter of time before Bill Clinton turns on Obama. I believe it will probably happen after he loses big to Romney. Clinton will probably see how badly Americans want Hussein out of office, and that is when he could do what Bill does best, he will jump on the winning bandwagon and begin cutting Obama's legs from out underneath him. After all, there can be but one King of the Democrats, and he will not allow it to be the man who made Jimmy Carter look good.

Clinton won’t pounce until after the election. Party above all. Clinton can then say that Zero destroyed the party. We’ll know the party destroyed the party but so what? Since when has critical thinking been on a party platform.

A bitter clinger would be someone who is voting for Hope & Change redux...

Each year for the last 7 years where I’ve lived, I’ve spent over $200 each Halloween on candy. Spent the night out there looking at low lifes coming to my sub division in my little town mooching candy because its where they can make the biggest haul. Trailer renting Section 8’ers, illegal Mexicans, inundating our sub division to the point the police and fire department have to manage the influx. Virtually no costumes, no enthusiasm, no opening “Trick or Treat” - just holding out their effing pillow case for their ‘handout’ (again)....Nope, not gonna happen again.

This year, my porch lite will be dark. I’ll buy some candy for the late daylight hours when the sub division kids come around early with their moms and dads, but screw the rest of the Obama moochers. They don’t get sh!t this year.

I have thought for a long time that Halloween was just a slick way of turning children into beggars.

Nothing like sending you kid out, dressed up in a costume to beg for candy, by threatening those who are supposed to be kind by giving them some.

Just like real socialism. Give free food, homes, phones, etc.etc, etc. Then when you tell the lazy bums we are broke, they threaten to take riot.

Threaten to cut taxes or fight against a proposed tax increase and the police and firemen all get together by threatening we will lose our fire or police protection.

We train them up well on how to get what they want for free don’t we?

While “trick or treat” is supposed to only be a formality, some take it further with actual tricks.

You’re right, liberalism, if it ever was anything else before, is now the ultimate trick or treat with emphasis on the TRICK.

To the contrary, I don’t think it is subliminal training.

Children (and their parents excited in the anticipation of their kids fun and cuteness) thinking, planning, wishing and wanting to dress up in the characterization of their idol, looking ‘scary’, or in the case of my grand daughters being the prettiest princess - bunny - or chipmunk they can be. Their reward for this ‘work’ is some candy.

The celebration is RUINED by those leeches that don’t even dress up as anything, hold up a pillow case, and can’t even say the words, or even say thank you in English...

I’ve had it with them. I’ve supported their parents for years - I’ll not continue it with them.

Billary loves what is happening to soetoro/Marshall/Hussein/zero. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it was the Hilldebeest who called off the backup support in Benghazi for the Embassy and the Seals. They are still smarting that she got drubbed by a guy who was only supposed to serve them coffee.

Very similar here. We used to go all out with decorations, costumes and candy. Yes HUNDREDS of dollars of usually very unique candy because I had friends who owned a csndy warehouse. They gave me huge discounts and even then it cost hundreds.

And because I ran an unusual business that did custom work for hotels, bars, restaurants and other entertainment venues I had lasers, smoke shows, fiber optic lighting and other special effects.

One year I wore a big yellow inflatable environmental suit. Inside were green glow sticks. I looked exactly like Homer Simpson with a nuke rod in his suit.

Even though we were on a side street we would get 500+ kids and that was before the late bused in crowd.

After things died down the neighbors would all gather in my yard and we would build a big fire in the firepit, sit around all night and enjoy...a grown up Halloween.

Then things changed the bused in crowd came earlier and earlier. Really we didn’t mind much but it got to the point where they were belligerent and demanding. They would bring sacks and claim they wanted more stuff for brothers and sisters.

But we did know some of those and that they didn’t have siblings. We even heard bragging about getting over on us and our neighbors.

When our kids were grown we cut back...not much but it wasn’t the same. A few years ago we moved to a nearby apartment complex. We could still do some Halloween here but prefer to go to our kids homes...in the same neighborhood... and help them and the grandkids.

Same here in TX. Growing up in Texas, we didn’t see the truckloads of illegals Trick or Treating til the mid ‘70’s. It progressively got worse over the years. Relatives in other parts of the country were astonished about this - the illegals coming by the truck and van full to get hand out’s. Now, it probably happens across most of the country.

Count us in too. I was lucky enough to have to pull the night shift tomorrow and the wife will keep the lights off.

Personally, I think Halloween Trick or Treating should be for children 12 and under only.

Once they hit 13, they should be forced to hand the candy out.

When I was a kid, trick or treating was for elementary kids and younger.

You wouldn’t be caught dead trick or treating if you were jr. high or older. It was for KIDS.

I think it is better that way.

While “trick or treat” is supposed to only be a formality, some take it further with actual tricks.

Soaping windows was the minimum effort, but dumping over outhouses was a favorite when I was a kid.

Some clever old timers would move their outhouse forward a couple feet before it got dark, fun, fun, for everyone.

Occasionally and old timer would hide in his outhouse with a shotgun, but we always seemed to know which one would do that, so they got to spend a while trapped in the outhouse, when it was dumped over on the door.

As my group got a little older we made it our mission to go around and reset all the outhouses, seemed a lot more fullfilling.

My grandson is raising money for a trip to Australia. He is 12 and will spend his Halloween at a card table in our front yard selling glow sticks. And he has spent the last few weekends selling Halloween insurance. If someone with a policy gets hit with a “trick” he will go back the next day and clean it up.

Now that is brilliant. Is there an insurance salesperson in the family that may have given him the idea?

Either way, that is a great idea. With gumption like that he will easily earn the funds for an Australian ticket.

He will also be richer then you by the time he is 25 probably.

What are you doing this Halloween? As for me and my wife, we love in the country with maybe one kid that might come by.

He did last year and we were completely unprepared. So we gave him some fruit and a couple of dollars.
