A troop of turkeys goes house-hunting in Berkeley While the suburban residents of Concord try to deal with that wayward camel at commute time, the folks in quiet Albany are battling their own random creatures.
We came across this fun news item this morning from CBS, which explains how a dozen or so wild turkeys are overrunning the small town of Albany with their annoying gobbles, clucks, and cackles. Interestingly enough, the turkey troops showed up after Thanksgiving and have overstayed their welcome.
Parents are worried these wild birds will try to take on their children (sounds like a Stephen King movie) so they're keeping them safe inside, entertained by video games, no doubt.
Apparently, these birds do not consider themselves Albany residents; the feathered gang was also spotted taking over a Berkeley neighborhood about a month ago.

Actually, residents should be concerned, considering mating season for these wild turkeys has officially begun.
The turkeys in my yard can sure fly. They apparently don’t like to but they fly clear across my six acres and beyond.
I would love to do that in Berkeley. Preferably downtown. Can you imagine how many thousands of insane libtards would just keel over dead from the shock and horror?
It would be worth the shot to learn the true number.
Well, I stand corrected. Never seen them really take to the air like that. Perhaps given this is the SF area, they are liberal turkeys around here and their aspirations have been sapped.

Turkeys fly, not that well, but it is a scary when a bunch of them fly over your head. (cover your head, LOL) I prefer my turkeys to be called up the mountain side (on the ground) early in the morning from the valley below ... with me doing the calling.

We have a couple of flocks of about 20 each. (rural forested area.) A few females will spin off later in the spring and walk around with their new offspring following them. Three or four males and a couple of females will hang out together when it is not mating season. Yes they will perch in trees.
What do you mean they can’t fly? They’re not going to migrate from Maine to Florida but they certainly can fly.

Yes, they can fly and do.They stay close to cover and have no need to soar, nor could they. They can surprise you with a burst out of the brush going straight up

I work at a residential Tx facility for at-risk teen boys. The place
is a 1,000 acre ranch in the Sierra Nevada foothills and there are
many, many dozens of wild turkeys. Many of them will fly across
gulches and roost high in ponderosa pines or oaks. Not a great
fear of humans in these critters. Several years ago a few of the
boys started annoying a couple of toms. We put a stop to that but
these toms became aggressive and started chasing and attacking
staff. Finally they had to put both of them down. Like peacocks,
some of the toms will peck at cars if they see their reflection in
the paint job or chrome bumpers. Even have a few scratches in
my pick-up to prove it.

How many times have you ever heard in the news about a drive by turkey shooting? LOL!
I really don't know how to describe it. It was like the turkeys mounted a counter-attack! It was almost as if they were... organized!
Does nobody there have a shotgun/bow/crossbow and/or a smoker?

Wild turkeys can fly. The ones raised on farms for Thanksgiving can’t. - Remember on that old tv show, “WEKR in Cincinnati”, I think. The station had a Thanksgiving promotion where they flew over and dropped a bunch of “free” turkeys for the holiday - live ones. Only they were the domestic variety, and dropped like rocks.
