Fasting for as little as three days can regenerate the entire immune system, even in the elderly, scientists have found in a breakthrough described as “remarkable”.

Although fasting diets have been criticized by nutritionists for being unhealthy, new research suggests starving the body kick-starts stem cells into producing new white blood cells, which fight off infection.

Scientists at the University of Southern California say the discovery could be particularly beneficial for people suffering from damaged immune systems, such as cancer patients on chemotherapy. […]

Scientists found that prolonged fasting also reduced the enzyme PKA, which is linked to aging and a hormone which increases cancer risk and tumour growth. …

I’m so confused!

To eat, or not to eat. That is the question. I’ve been fasting for five minutes as I contemplate that question. I believe the answer is... to eat.

I’ve found that after about a day and a half hunger goes away. The first day and a half rough though. For me, eating small amounts is the hardest since I am always hungry.

In all fairness, fasting is mentioned a lot in the Bible. They were doing this long ago. Some scientist probably read the bible and is now trying to claim the idea as his own heh.

Her food plan has reached into our hospitals too. Turkey every meal as meat. Pita bread, dry as dust and as tasteless. Bad for the person with Colon issues the CABBAGE family 2 meals a day.

My husband had to feed me from Burger King or Subway the last 3 day hospital stay, the food was that lousy, they even ruined French Toast. Just threw the frozen crap on the plate to thaw, no margarine, no syrup, soggy mess is what I got that day. Blackened Chicken may be to some people’s taste, it is not to mine, to spicy, causes Reflux. turkey meatloaf even a 20 year Navy Vet would not eat. Never saw a slice of bread. Ask for a Plain Turkey sandwich, what did I get PITA bread and some crap on it I don’t know what it was. Undeniable, tasteless garbage. Did I forget to say NO COFFEE or ICE TEA, just fruit juices.

I need 2 cups of coffee before I’m ready to do any thing. Decaf don’t cut it as coffee.

Silver has a lot of healing properties, there’s even been cases of massive tumors disappearing when using it. Modern medicine I’m not sure is all about healing. I think it’s more about making cash.

That would be “globe bull warming”.

It happens every spring as the globe bull warms to the local cow during mating season.

What did you think it was?

>>I’ve found that after about a day and a half hunger goes away.

That’s fairly typical. One huge and rarely mentioned benefit of at least a 3 day fast is that the stomach shrinks and afterwards you feel (because you are) full with substantially less intake of food.

I gained the traditional “freshman 15” pounds when I went off to college, so I decided to fast to drop some weight. The first couple of days were tough, but after that, it was an amazing experience. My mind became clearer, I slept better, and my energy levels peaked. Plus, it was an incredible boost to my self-confidence, knowing I had the discipline to impose such a regimen on myself and stick to it. I had to force myself to break the fast after a week.

I don’t know if I could do it again, but I would guess that for the average American, a fast would be a healthy experience.

Just more fascism from the left and incredibly people keep voting for Democrats. I was reading a story yesterday how this homeowner in Florida keeps getting fined because his house has “violations” - like a torn windscreen on the door or paint peeling and all this other nonsense and he was being fined $250 a day. So as a protest he decided to paint a huge American flag on his house. So I was saying to myself, what is that going to do? Yes it’s great he’s patriotic, but it’s going to do absolutely nothing. What he should do instead is walk around his neighborhood and plead with people to NOT vote Democrats into office! That’s what I do when I get the time. I ask them point blank “Do you like to pay high taxes? Do you like to pay fines? Do you like it when the government scams you out of your money? Do you like it when illegals take jobs meant for your teen kids? Then stop voting for DEMOCRATS!” I tell you, it really works because there is a hell of a lot of naive people out there and those are the ones who vote Democrat. If everyone walked around their neighborhood and talked to people Democrats would be absolutely destroyed in every single election.

Of course we never hear from these unknown scientists what the life span of the ancestors of the fasters was. If their ancestors were killed at an early age by accident, diseases or on purpose, those ancestors should be eliminated from any study. There are a lot more studies showing that when we stop eating or severely reduce our caloric intake, our bodies go into a mode that converts carbs to into fat. That was how our ancient ancestors were able to survive when the hunters/fishers didn’t bag enough game to feed their families.

None of my ancestors on my family tree ever fasted. We had some, who made it to their mid 90’s to over a hundred. The average life span was in their mid 80’s to mid 90’s.

If fasting makes one feel better do it. If it doesn’t, don’t do it.

BS, I’ve been stuck in the hospital on a total liquid diet for 3 days, could not even stomach the pop cycle or jello because of the CHEMS taste, RED DYES are bad, the broth stunk, inch of grease, and so much salt it’d choke a horse.

Needless to the only usable items was the cranberry and apple juice. My salt intake is Highly restricted as it trips you into a Vertigo/Meneire’s attack. I have Meneire’s and OP that makes me a double fall risk, because of the high OP DX score.

Never did a thing for restarting the immune system, still have the same auto immune illnesses. I stay as far away from their drugs as possible. Pure poison to my system. Both my ENDO and PC are pushing these drugs big time. I tried Fosamax sample, it went in the garbage in 4 days. Bone pain was so bad. I live in pain, I don’t need your drugs to cause MORE. And they totally ignore the FDA warnings on OP drugs. If you want the skinny on Lyrica I’ve got the links not a pleasant drug. Should not even be on the market.

With Nexium going OTC at the 20 MG strength the ad is not telling all the facts. Please be aware long term use causes bone density issues and Barret’s Esophagus. Then you need a Upper GI every 2 yrs to monitor it for turning into a cancer.

Well--I don't mean shedding moral restraint. But if I'm outspoken, moral restraint will be something I'll speak out about.

If I do whatever I damn well please, I probably won't do anything I'm not doing right now. I've already done everything--been everywhere--seen everything.

But if anyone doesn't like it because I'm fasting--or whatever I'm doing--TOO BAD! I'm going to do it anyway.

Didn’t he sign up for the homeowner’s Association when he bought the house. I live in a Homeowner’s Association that I knew about. I have little sympathy for those that purchase a house in a neighborhood that has one. Really can’t complain after the fact.

BOL!

“My husband had to feed me from Burger King or Subway the last 3 day hospital stay, the food was that lousy, they even ruined French Toast. Ask for a Plain Turkey sandwich, what did I get PITA bread and some crap on it I don’t know what it was. Undeniable, tasteless garbage. Did I forget to say NO COFFEE or ICE TEA, just fruit juices.”

Forty + years ago my wife delivered our second son. Liberal doctors and pseudo scientist dieticians had taken over that hospital’s dietary program. She and her post partum room mate, both nursing mothers were starving.

So I brought in corned beef sandwiches and steak sandwiches with a couple of beers for she and her hospital room mate for dinner for the next two evenings post delivery. Her room mate’s hubbie brought in breakfast and lunch for them. To this day, she feels that I may have saved her life. Before I started bring in the emergency rations, she had lost about 4 pounds after her post delivery weight. In her pregnancies, she never gained more than a couple of pounds over the baby’s weight. She was trim before the pregnancies and had zero body fat before, during and after her pregnancies.

“I need 2 cups of coffee before I’m ready to do any thing. Decaf don’t cut it as coffee.”

At about the same time, pseudo scientists came out and said that regular coffee was bad for us and could kill us. I had a weird and benign heart murmur at times, and the IM I ended up seeing wanted me off coffee* and a no meat diet. Two days into the no coffee*, I had my only chargeable car wreck in my life time of driving. My car struck the car in front of me one morning after decaf in stead of regular coffee. My reflexes were below normal.

We went back to common sense eating and drinking our 2 cups of coffee.

Now we are in our mid 70’s, still love our coffee and our moderate Paleo/Med without the pasta eating habits/diets.

*The pseudo scientists at that time, including my soon fired IM/MD told us that coffee was an evil and dangerous drink. Now, we know that coffee, again in moderation, may be one of the healthiest drinks for most of us. The decafing process when chemicals are used, probably makes decaf coffee a dangerous brew to drink.

Now that you mention it, I think I heard that during this globe bull/cow mating ritual, they (male and female) secrete methane bubbles (big greasy ones) to make the process go more smoothly. The unused bubbles rise up in the air like balloons, and poke holes in the ozone. If this continues at its current rate, the sky will fall within the next two or three years.
