The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

I don’t think that there’s anything worse to stand on than concrete. Our floors downstairs are either tile or wood. The kitchen is tile, so that’s where we have the rubber mats.

We have some men from the lst Cav down town setting up a
WWI bivouac area. Some of us vets went to watch and visit. They looked so young and one was a Major. Like Doctors, the soldiers are looking younger and younger. I remember when a 30 year old Sargent looked OLD. Time flies.
My corn is over head high and it’s not even the 4th of July.
When do we know when it’s time to pick it? It’s got tassels and I spread cayenne pepper all over the ground, the plants and the tassels to keep the raccoons and worms away. That stuff sure makes one sneeze.

Get some molasses from a feed store. I was having trouble
with worms (?) eating my cabbage and other stuff. I spread the molasses over all the gardens. Cabbage is doing just
great now and so is everything else, even got rid of some
fire ants.
We didn’t find out for quite a while that the generic tramadol contained acetaminophen. Dad was on so many meds that I finally bought a pill book to keep up. The 11th edition was from 2004. It listed Generic Tramadol as having both Tramadol and Acetaminophen combined.
So I went back and double checked with my Doctor and Pharmacist and they confirmed it. So I had to take that into consideration as part of his Tylenol dose, which had to be more limited than usual due to his kidneys.
I know there were news reports that people were inadvertently getting too much and damaging kidneys and livers, because the disclosures weren't clear enough, and elderly people especially have to be careful with acetaminophen.
Bottom line is to be careful and ask a lot of questions when you get pain meds. Sorry to get into the weeds with all the detail.LOL
I hear your pain. As long as I can keep mine at low to moderate with heat treatments, that’s what I will do.
Though I might try the osteo bi flex since it has been shown to have some effect on slowing or reversing deterioration.
I do take 2 or 3 coated aspirins for my headaches, since I haven’t found heat or cold to be effective enough. I am going to get some peppermint essential oil to try though.
Like I said I’m a wuss when it comes to pain, but I also try to avoid meds as much as I can, especially if they are not generic. I figure the generic have been around long enough for all the bad news to have surfaced. LOL
It amazes me that so many doctors and hospitals recommend/prescribe acetaminophen without divulging its dangers.
whoo hoo. That’s good. How hot are they?
Japanese beetles are a major problem around here. But I found a cheap and all natural sure fire trick to deal with them. Put a gallon of water, a handful of fresh chili peppers, a few dried chili peppers and some cayenne powder in a pot. (I cut the fresh ones and break open the dried ones) Bring it to a boil then simmer (with a lid on) for an hour. Cool, strain and put in a spray bottle - spray anything that is being bothered by the beetles. Works like a charms.
Hubby want to do ceramic tile. That's a no go for me because that wouldn't be any softer than concrete. And I don't like carpet, since we have our doggie and a couple of bed rooms down stairs. I like the rugs to be something that I throw in the washer.
Our daughter has a vinyl flooring that has about 3/4 inch padding and didn't have to be glued down, so that's one thing that's possible, but I'll have to research it more.
We have so much furniture too that to redo the floor is going to be a real pain. I can see how we could do it in stages, but to do it all at once could be a problem.
Well, ain’t that something. Shelves are full of it, and the doc advises to take it. I did add tumeric to my spices last year, and have been using it in almost everything.
Turns everything a nice shade of yellow.LOL
Worth a try. First I am going to recon to make sure what we have. It’s not there in the daytime. Could even be slugs maybe?

I no longer garden since I bought my condo but one of my sons has trouble with the beetles———I’ll pass this on to him.(I have lots of house plants,though.)
I always liked the natural remedies rather than the chemical ones.

That’s so true. And for years they advised us to give it to our kids as a safer alternative than aspirin.
The other day I filled Rx for my grand daughter for children’s advil for fever. They just filled it right off the shelf in a box and stuck the label on it. The Rx flyer warned that it could cause strokes.
No where on the box or pamphlet inside did it warn of this.
I didn’t give them to her. I stuck her in the bath tub of cool water and gave her a glass of water with ice to drink instead. Told her mom she could give her whatever she wanted to, but I wasn’t going to use it.
Don’t know yet.
My plan is to let them turn red, then pick and dry them to make a product that I can shake into soups, stews, etc.
