Hi Jim, I didn't know how to email you privately so I'll use one of the more casual forums. This is not a new topic, I'm sure, but let me add my voice to whatever clamor there is to migrate Free Republic to a more modern forum software package, one that

1. Has functions which are easy to see/find and invoke

2. Allows easier upload of pictures

3. That allows email notification of replies to comments

4. That allows editing after a comment is posted

5. That has text editing features so one doesn't need to know HTML code in order to add emphasis.

6. That has a Search function for previous posts

7. That is easier to navigate to the specialty forums such as "Gods, Graves, Glyphs", which, had it not been mentioned in a random post, I never would have found here on FR.

This is the modern era, there are far, far better forum software packages out there. Free Republic may well experience a rapid growth in users post Trump victory. We'll want to make joining and participating fully in FR as easy as possible.

That is for sure

My writing style

I think I'm talking not writing

My middle boy was with me today watching me chat up rental agents and waitresses and shuttle driver old ladies and stewardesses...I joke to him how we call them flight attendants now

He asked me if I had to talk to everyone especially girls

I'm like hell yeah...if folks respond and enjoy communicating

It's living to the fullest....anyone can be a turtle

Besides when you're old and no skin in the game it's fun chatting with beautiful women that woulda tongue tied you when you were a young buck

People like to be paid attention to politely and engaged

My Miss Mississippi mama had it down to an art.....and now I do it...I prefer talking to women I confess

My wyfe warns me careful if they look lonely....they will mistake your engaging nature for an opportunity

Anyhow..I write like I talk

I do laundry better

I was struck today between BNA, O'Hare and Detroit Wayne International how liberal looking young people are and how ethnic we now are in short order

Now all of America looks foreign and not many masculine young men....bearded or not...a Viking or Hells Angels beard ain't waxed and twisted....they have dandy beards these hipster lads...

If you feel JR was unfair take it up with him

After it became clear trump had it locked up he warned folks we were going to support the nominee even though early on he was Cruz like me

Then some continued bashing Trump and got warning zots and the permanent zots if they insisted

Early on in 2015 when Trump was rising the Cruz people here frequently when berserk countered by some Trump folks

Both sides had I think professionals here sent by their campaigns

The anti Trumpers did not leave because they were run off...they left because they don’t want to be where Trump is applauded

And now he has nominated what seems to me the most conservative get her done cabinet I’ve ever seen and still talks the talk on Islam Christmas and other culture issues so you have to wonder about their judgement about what is conservative

Is it just because they lost?

That’s silly

I’ve been here a long time and if you read up you’ll see this is forum history going back 17 years to when the Goldbergs left to the Clown Posse to Wideawakes etc

It’s always about thee “exodus”

Don’t fall for it

They are all over at gopbriefing room.com looking......wrong

And the truly duplicitous bash us there and then come back here like moths to the flame cause they can’t help it

I think your wife is right, not that women don’t love a friendly guy. At first, we don’t know just “how friendly” or if it’s an act to get something from us.

I’m not seeing many waxed mustaches etc, but now men mostly look grizzled with a two day beard. My mom says that used to be the look only a bum would have. Now you see it everywhere like on Simon Cowell the other night. Personally I don’t mind it. I like beards.

[[The anti Trumpers did not leave because they were run off]]

They weren’t just anti trumpers that left- things were so bad here that people stopped publishing comments- especially if they supported ted during the primaries- (Which is a far different thing than being an ‘anti-trumper’)- it became blatantly apparent that any kind of support for Ted during the primaries was a red flag to folks here on the site who supported trump-

[[After it became clear trump had it locked up]]

Sorry- but the animosity happened before the primaries were over- back when it looked like Ted still had a chance-

[[Then some continued bashing Trump]]

Some did- not all- Several tried bringing up how uncivil the forums had become and were relentle4ssly mocked and attacked- eventually giving their opus- some of these folks were not ‘anti-trump’ - They left because they saw what FR was becoming- making it more than clear why they were leaving in their threads- some of the threads were so nasty that mods had to delete them- Several tried to bring the issue up but were suspended-

[[Then some continued bashing Trump and got warning zots and the permanent zots ]]

Again- the issue wasn’t about those few republicans who were actively trying to subvert the election- some folks rightfully were banned- we’re talking about people during the primaries who simply felt Ted was the right choice-

I went through the threads where sum of these folks were zotted or simply left- or posted their opuses because this issue was tearing the site apart during that time— and went through their posting histories during this time- and some of these folks were not ‘never-trump’- because folks kept claiming they were zotted because they were ‘rapid never trumpers’- i knew several of the folks, and never knew them to be ‘rabid anti-trumpers’- I even pointed out in several threads that nothing i could find supported that accusation-

[[The anti Trumpers did not leave because they were run off...they left because they don’t want to be where Trump is applauded]]

We’re not talking about rabid ‘never trumpers’ - many folks that have left because of what transpired here supported Ted during the primaries BUT accepted Donald as the people’s choice- In the big picture- Most republicans who supported Ted were not ‘never-trumpers’- they were ‘never hillary’ first and foremost and they accepted that the people as a whole, felt that trump was the choice needed- they may not have agreed- but they accepted it-

If you go back and go through the opuses that were done back then- not all the folks leaving were never trump-

Every election you are going to have ‘never so and sos’ but in the end most republicans end up accepting whoever the nominee is because they are first and foremost ‘never - democrats’

[[so you have to wonder about their judgment about what is conservative]]

Not really- Donald either intentionally or unintentionally portrayed some less than solid conservative stances optically- to an objective observer- it leaves them scratching their heads- His supporters of course dismiss the optics and claim he is ‘just toying with the left’ (And maybe he is- some objective observers however don’t know for sure however at this point, and are worried about it- the reality is that he has work to do to convince folks he’s onboard- I personally think he is- although admittedly some of the things He’s done like meeting with gore and decrapio are a bit troubling- I realize he hired a man who does not support the idea that man is causing climate change but then again he’s also hired on another fella who thinks we are- can’t remember his name right now- true- that fella doesn’t have a position where he can influence directly as part of his job- but it’;s the optics that have people a bit nervous-)

I’ve been here since the Bush term- lurking mostly- been through several elections- Yes- it always get heated- but i have not witnessed republicans turning on each other like i did during this last election (The one minor exception was when romney ran and folks were trying to make the case that as bad as he was- he was still preferable to the commie traitor that was his opponent- but even those debates didn’t rise to the level of hostility and nastiness that was witnessed here (and note I’m not singling out this site- MANY sites got very nasty- even fox news turned very very ugly on both sides- Passions were at an all time high (in recent memory) because of the crap we all had been through for the last 8 years with the current administration and his systematic assault on this country-

Trump is right when he states there was a ‘movement like never before’- and the reason is because people were very angry about the state of affairs this country was in-

anyway- I’ve said my piece-

“Yes- it always get heated- but i have not witnessed republicans turning on each other like i did during this last election “

Then you’re not aware of how ugly things got here when howlin and her GOPe mob ruled the roost during Dubya.

I lost count of how many of my freeper pals got zotted, especially for having the audacity to complain about illegal immigration. Wardaddy and Travis McGee know this all too well, having been victims of one of these purges.

That mob did us all a favor when they abandoned FR for Wideawakes, where their revolution devoured itself.

Dang Bobby you had me fooled for a second.....shit son you were just another anti Trumper.....no wonder your Trump history is so myopic...so how are you now on Donald

To: McGruff [[Ever hear Trump say anything bad about Cruz? Ever hear Cruz say anything bad about Trump? Ever wonder why?]] It’s because Cruz stands to pick up all the disgruntled voters who are going for trump when trump flames out or gets torn down by some scandal- Cruz is much like trump inthat he commands the respect of people who are fed up with businesss as usual in government, only cruz is a professional while trump is a one shot wonder who will likely fizzle out as people begin to realize he really isn’t presidential material 50 posted on 8/13/2015, 12:35:21 PM by Bob434 [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 16 | View Replies | Report Abuse] To: jpsb

To: JediJones Yep- trump is no conservative- and I’m not sure why conservatives are flocking to his side right now- I guess maybe because they think he’s a brilliant businessman who can get this ocutnry back to ‘the good times’ we knew in the 80’s-90’s when life was easy-ish I really believe trump will turn once in office- He’ll say what he needs to to win, then his true colors will be exposed- He might do the country some good financially, but the rest of his positions are no better than, and often worse than, the rino positions- 63 posted on 8/13/2015, 1:02:45 PM by Bob434 ( person running,) [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 61 | View Replies | Report Abuse]

LOL- I was never an anti trumper- Neither of those comments are never-trump- there’s a big difference between being pro one candidate over another durign a primary and a ‘never trumper’ after the peopel have spoken- I wish Donald well and I hope He will turn out to be the best thign since sliced bread- I have hope that he will be- but am cautiously reserved because of some of his positions-

Now I stand by my first comment there that Ted wasn’t badmouthing trump at the time because he felt- like a lot of conservatives did, that trump was going to fizzle out because they felt he wasn’t politically savvy enough to hold his own-

I’ve seen one shot wonders rise and fall before- and it looked at the time that it was going to happen again- Trump had scandals looming in the background at the time, and it looked like Herman Cain’s deal where he wasn’t going to survive them because the msm would hound him out of the running over them- Once again I was wrong- he comments about the scandal wasn’t ‘anti-trump- it was an attempt at reading the tea leaves- nothing more

IF you’ll be honest and go back through my comments you will note I said I WILL support whoever got the nomination and i tried making the case over and over again that people’s passions were high and that those that supported Cruz would eventually come around- just like they do every election by and large- -

Never once did you hear me say I was never trump- and infact I tried to convince never trumps to calm down and consider the fact that they would be contributing to a democrat win if they persisted-

It’s no secret I felt Cruz was the better candidate during the primaries- An I still feel he would have been a good President (however, if Trump turns out to do like roosevelt did by carrying a big stick and cleaning out the swamp- then I will gladly admit that trump was probably an even better outcome than Cruz because While I think Cruz might be tough- I think he was a little too establishment to buck the norm as aggressively as I think Trump ‘May’ accordign to how trump is talking now- but again, it remains ot be seen-)-

however, the people spoke and nominated trump and I support the nomination- Trump has since, as you point out- made some choices that I feel are quite conservative- and my opinion of him is changing some- but I’m STILL reserving any final opinion until I see him prove himself as he serves- We shall see- I have always been cautiously optimistic that the people’s choice will turn out to be the right one- We have yet to see how he will govern- it remains to be seen- and i will GLadly admit i was mistaken if he governs as a strong conservative and strong leader-

I still think some of his positions may turn out to be rino like if he caves on isues (and he’s giving off mixed signals on things like the paris agreement, climate change, going after hellery etc- Is he just playing with the dems? I don’t know- hopefully so- but hte optics certainly are making some folks nervous-)- but again I will gladly admit if I am wrong-

[[You really oughta bone up in free republic history]]

There is no need for me to- i know what i said and WHY i said them when i said them- Donald trump was an unknown- He wasn’t a politician, and many rightfully felt that he didn’t have the experience politically to lead- and quite frankly he held very liberal positions not long ago- I make no apologies for the conclusions i came up with at hte time- As I said i am now cautiously optimistic and hoping to hell he does what he said he will do- but if you will be honest about the situation- He has said things and done tights recently that have people nervous

I should have more accurately said I was never a ‘never trumper’- but I was pro Cruz during the primaries- I honestly felt at that time Trump was just saying what he needed to in order to get elected- We’ve been burned over and over and over by politicians who do exactly that-

I will say He is surprising me with many of his picks, and it APPEARS as though he is following through on much of what he was claiming during the primaries- and if so then fantastic- I hope my initial impressions of him were completely wrong- for the sake of this country- I hope he takes a water canon and cleans out the corruption that is rampant in government- He- as an outsider, is perhaps best suited to this task IF he can get the spineless rinos behind him to back him up- He may do - and hopefully so- what a politician, because of political correctness fear, would never dream of doing-

I went with what i felt was the right decision back then, the rest of the country didn’t agree- I’m fine with that- and respect their decision right or wrong- I believe based on what I’m seeing and hearing that I was the one who was wrong and I’m more than happy to admit it IF president trump holds the line- From what I’m seeing- it looks like he very well may- on most issues- but again- time will tell- I remain objective on the issue- just as i am objective about Cruz’s shortcommings that may have hindered his effectiveness at a time such as we’re in now- The pendulum seems to be swinging against the filth of he left- The people were very very angry with the way the country was going- and although I think Cruz would have made a pretty tough president in some areas, I’m not sure Cruz would have been as in your face as trump appears to be indicating he will be- let’s for the country’s sake- hope Trump proves my initial reservations about him wrong-

I beg to differ

For those of us who lived it like Matt Bracken and I the history of Free Republic ebbs and flows is very relevant

And the Anti Trump mini exodus was no different though much smaller than the Giuliani exodus in 2007

Had your boy prevailed it would have been quite different around here but frankly given how vote wise Trump barely prevailed I’m convinced Cruz would have lost

So it’s better Trump who daily proves your assumptions about him inaccurate or Hillary where we know we lost

Trump won cause folks like him and his guts

Cruz simply doesn’t have that and to me jumped the shark proving utterly how craven he could be if he thought it would work the night he blamed the Soros army on the streets on Chicago on Trumps incitement

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3408130/posts?page=99

That was pathetic.

I posted that thread that night immediately upon seeing him do that and a number of folks disembarked the USS Cruz that night after seeing that spectacle ....my friend of many years Travis McGee for example

How any conservatives here continued to support him was beyond me

Likewise how many real culture warriors opposed Trump?

Kristol

Krauthammer

Hayes

Lowery

Goldberg

Graham

Mitt

McCain

Bushies

Rove

Kasich

I stand by what i said for the reasons listed in previous posts-

I don’t agree Cruz would have lost- or any republican for that matter- the country was pissed- and more so when the email investigation was reopened- districts that went heavily for the current president in 2012 did not do so this election- she trailed him in the numbers badly in parts that should have been solidly hers-

I’m not suggesting Cruz would have been the right choice- but it remains to be seen-

[[Cruz simply doesn’t have that and to me jumped the shark proving utterly how craven he could be if he thought it would work the night he blamed the Soros army on the streets on Chicago on Trumps incitement

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3408130/posts?page=99

That was pathetic.]]

Please don’t even go there- after trump intimated that Cruz’s father might have had something to do with the assassination (By saying several times “He didn’t deny it) and intimating that Ted was a serial adulterer- and that Ted was ‘in bed with goldman sachs’ (then turning around and hiring a goldman sachs big wig himself)

[[Trump won cause folks like him and his guts]]

There were several re4ason why he won- that was just one- independents helped him quite a bit- not all because they liked his guts- but because they hated her guts- Heck even democrats didn’t like her enough to get out and vote in many places-

[[How any conservatives here continued to support him was beyond me]]

If you look at it objectively- the same could have been said of donald- his hands were not clean-

[[and ride with us...it’ll do u good]]

I don’t ride blindly- As I’ve said- I’ll look at the whole situation objectively and see what he does- it remains to be seen- it is too early to tell- But He will have my support while he is in office- as I’m cautiously optimistic as I’ve said before- He has done things to ease my mind, and he has done things to cause concern- I see many folks apologizing for everything trump does or says- ‘explaining it away’ as though he didn’t really mean them- Maybe he didn’t- I don’t know- but again it gets down to optics- and an objective analysis it must be said that some of the stuff he’s said seems to be a retraction of some issues he ran on- I’m NOT saying they are- but if you look at it objectively- you have to admit it ‘doesn’t look good’ to those who are wary of him-

and just for the record- I was on newsbusters in some pretty heated battles defending voting for trump against a couple of never-trumpers- They were just as bad as the never-romneys were who’s views were that it was better for America to suffer under socialism than to ‘compromise values’ by electing someone less than perfect in Romney- many even here on FR said this very thing back when Romney ran- I’ve watched this country sink further and further into the cesspool of liberalism ever since- and I didn’t want that same idiotic mentality to prevail this time too- We have suffered defeats that will never be undone - the damage is permanent- but it is my hope that trump can heal some of the crap that has been foisted on us because some republicans wanted to ‘teach ht party a lesson’-

listen- I went through the romeny debacle here on FR- the Palin wars- the McCain wars- watched republicans turn on Bush and accuse him of all kinds of crap here on Fr- etc etc etc- The primaries are over- Donald Trump has won- He has my support unless He betrays it (and that goes for any candidate- not just him)

The site got very guy this last election- Yes other elections were bad as well- but let’s give it a rest- it’s fatiguing- I do hope the best for trump- as i would any candidate who won - I hope he stays true to the things he ran on to the best of his ability- just as I would hope any candidate would- We don’t need to be at each other’s throats the whole time- He won- it’s over- Now he needs to deliver- as best he can- Even if he tries and fails that will be fine- at least he will have tried- but I’m betting he get this country financially solid again- ad think at the very least He has inspired some of the rinos to stop being such pushovers, and start actually representing hte people again- I DO believe that is where he shines-

I have been impressed with how many times he says “WE” in his tours- and how he went out on a huge thank you tour- what a stark difference between what we’ve had the last 8 years with mr “I Won!” who has done nothing but insult Americans and try to start race wars-

IF Donald can come through for the African American society in the inner cities and slums like he said- that will be huge huge huge for republicans - and may just turn the tide in republicans favor for decades to come- I DO believe he wants to try- and I DO believe he has a vision that the other candidates just didn’t because they were4 too much politicians first- people second-

As I said- I’ll not blindly ride along- but I will keep an eye on things and comment on the facts- good or bad- and I will make no apologies for it-
