Ocasio-Cortez warns of damage to crops due to warm temperatures in January (only 11.07 years left)

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is warning of potential damage to crops and the high food prices that could follow after the New York metropolitan area saw record high temperatures this past weekend.

“It hit ~70° in NY,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Sunday night. “In January. This weather at this time of year can be very risky for local farmers & families they serve.”

“If certain crops germinate/flower prematurely & a freeze follows, crops could fail or drop in yield. When food supply drops, prices rise,” she continued, while adding the hashtag #ClimateCrisis.

Her post came in response to another tweet sent out by the National Weather Service on Sunday afternoon that confirmed record highs had been recorded in Central Park and Bridgeport, Conn., as well as other parts of the region over the weekend.

Don't underestimate AOC. That 'idiot' has raised more than five million dollars to pump into other socialist's campaigns.

Something tells me she's a harbinger of some very bad things to come.

I'm terribly worried about the crops in Central Park and Bridgeport, Conn. Crops have never had to survive warm winter days before. WE'RE ALL DOOMED!

70 years ago it hit 70 in Boston in January.

I’d wager there’s not one seed in the ground mid January anywhere in New England.

I’m going to visit relatives in North Dakota Saturday. It is supposed to be nine degrees below zero. Maybe I will do some combining while I’m there. The wheat should be about ready if AOC is right.

I have read before that there is a shortage of strawberries, but they are still priced at $2.99 here in NH for the standard container. I believe they are from Chile this time of year.

Interesting though, I purchased a container of Florida Orange juice recently. It was priced at $2.99 for what I though was a quart. When I got home, I noticed why the container looked smaller. It was actually 1.6 quarts. I do not buy OJ very often. Is this something new?

aoc is such a vapid leftist windbag. Actually, she’d be better with a feedbag over those mega-choppers. What a pathetic, misinformed oaf.

It's mostly about the fruit trees....but I haven't seen anything yet about our area along Lake Ontario....where there's a huge band of Fruit tree Farms.

Guess she never heard of hydroponics either. 24/7...365 days. Love having half way decent tomatoes in the winter. Lotsa hot houses in our area.

Maybe she does! It wasn’t that long ago that she was astounded by the vegetables that were growing in a garden plot, saying that it was like magic.

Horticulturists would know——the affect of daylight hours.

My winter grass won’t grow with less sunlight than dark.....generally around the spring solstice.

My bet is Mother nature has learned both heat and light are the go signs. I’ll be interested to see if these fruit trees were triggered to blossom with 1 day of spring temperatures.

Since she won’t pay her dues to her colleagues, and I am sure she hasn’t paid off her college debt yet, why not subsidize local farmers , so that she can ensure they will be there for her come Spring? Naw, that’s just Capitalist!

I haven't seen anything in the news....so maybe not...fruit trees are such a big thing in our area...

Another thing is the Lilacs in Rochester. Haven't heard any screaming about that either.

This proves, once and for all, that Climate Change is real. It changes every day. Sometimes multiple times per day.

Truly horrific.
