HeritageDaily ^ | March 2021 | U of Adelaide

The results of the study showed no evidence of interbreeding. Nevertheless, the team were able to confirm previous results showing high levels of Denisovan ancestry in the region.

Rimshot!

[Yes, the article really does say that. High levels of ancestry, but without any evidence of interbreeding.]

[ Denisovans ]

So, there was an ancient van full 'o' guys named Dennis? Hope it had a cool paint scheme, some Cragars, tinted bubble windows and shag carpeting.

There were two such vans, all loaded up with Dennises, and it was the 1960s or early 1970s, and all the Dennises were freaks.

It was a freak accident.

About 1998 or so (not sure when) a local dealer was selling new Dodge vans with a mild custom paint job, mag wheels, etc. for about $13,500. Ah, the good old days. I think this is about a 1994.

They tried that, but found the body of an SNL star, and the trail of evidence led back to Neil Young.

With faces like that, I can see why interbreeding might have been difficult.

I thought they didn’t have anything more than a solitary tooth as evidence that Denisovans existed.

From 2019....

First portrait of mysterious Denisovans drawn from DNA Scientists analysed chemical changes to the ancient humans’ DNA to reveal broad, Neanderthal-like facial features

FWIW.

The tooth vanished bit by bit into the DNA sequencing technology, but subsequent to that some bones have been found. IF I weren't so blamed lazy (and I'm distracted right now, the market's just opened) I'd search, there *may* be a topic about it. Try the Denisovan keyword, there's actually quite a bit in there I think.

contradictory sentences - study pertains only to the region around Island Southeast Asia. Also misleading as many living today have Denisovan DNA like several Canadian Indian tribes - Ojibwa for one.

From what I’ve read of the types of genes (cold and high altitude adaptions) they left in us and from oral traditions, they likely lived in cold high places like mountains; were adverse to living other places because they revered the environment and did not wish to harm it by their presence; disliked other varieties of humans; were muscular and very tall perhaps greater the 8 feet on average.

Anthropologists are looking in the wrong places for Denisovans possibly.

Good read, but mostly a recap of available knowledge with many references and footnotes; but without original research by the authors. Interesting illustrations.

That’s not a Denisovan - no skulls have been found.
