Biden invokes emergency wartime powers to boost heat pump production with $169M in federal funds in administration's latest push to replace gas appliances

resident Joe Biden will use special wartime powers to boost US production of heat pumps, by funding nine manufacturing projects with $169 million from last year's climate bill, the Energy Department said on Friday.

The awards were granted under the emergency authority of the Cold War-era Defense Production Act (DPA), which Biden invoked on the basis of climate change to boost spending on clean energy technology.

'The President is using his wartime emergency powers under the Defense Production Act to turbocharge US manufacturing of clean technologies and strengthen our energy security,' said Biden's National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi in a statement.

Heat pumps can heat and cool homes and businesses more efficiently using thermal transfer, which moves heat from one area to another, rather than generating new heat.

The announcement was the latest in a series of moves to push the US toward more efficient home appliances, and was met with fury by the American Gas Association, a lobbying group for the natural gas industry.

'We are deeply disappointed to see the Defense Production Act, which is intended as a vital tool for advancing national security against serious outside threats, being used as an instrument to advance a policy agenda contradictory to our nation's strong energy position,' AGA President and CEO Karen Harbert said in a statement.

Harbert called natural gas a 'vital tool for emissions reductions and energy system resilience' and said the industry 'should not be unfairly undermined through misuse of the Defense Production Act.'

Natural gas is primarily composed of methane. About 60 percent of American homes use it for space and water heating, according to the US Energy Information Agency.

The Energy Department estimates that heating and cooling buildings in the US accounts for more than 35 percent of the country's energy consumption.

Joetato uses a pump to transfer heat from the hot load in his diaper to his cranium.
That way he can manage to read some of the garbage on his teleprompters.

And this is okay with “President” Xi?

Maybe this is payback for him admitting Xi is a dictator?

So long as the American public has to suffer and The Biden Crime Family pays for it, the 81,000,000 who voted for him are all hunky-dory with this.

Biden doesn’t “invoke” anything. His controllers do that while he naps. And then don’t bother to tell him about it.

I am one of the few here that thinks Biden is in full control, Sure he is showing his age, but he wants us to hurt and knows exactly what he is doing and is in full control.

No question.

When you step back, you begin to see all of Biden’s tricks.

He is an actor-——acting “infirmed” allows him to avoid questions WRT the chaos he’s caused.

And when his wrong-doing rears its ugly head, well, golly gee.......

Who is going to be so callous as to penalize this demented oldster?

Especially an old guy with a “surviving” son “struggling” with addictions.

Heat pumps are fine for Florida winters. They’re useless somewhere like Colorado where I live. Altitude and very cold temperatures are the enemies of a heat pump, because the frigid lower-density air has little heat to extract.

This is going to be an eye opener
for those that vote on the blue side
of things, and that think this is
the best thing since “a chicken in
every pot” was promised.
Those in Minnesota when the temps
are -20 are going to be eating
some mighty cold chicken.
Heat pumps don’t work so well below
freezing temps.
Also, those that have a heat pump,
and that system may be worn out
and ready for replacement, are
surely going to game the system.
The last quote I received was over
$6K.

One of the most basic things about changing homes/offices over to electric only:

The original electrical wiring on the property won’t handle that load.

REWIRING any such structures would be a nightmare

LOCAL SUPPLIES also affected. The power companies do not have existing loads just waiting to be used.

Biden using “special wartime powers” shows you where this guy is coming from. To over-the-hill
Biden, a 50 year product of legislating a wartime govt, wars are essential to his retro way of thinking:
<><> wars are a Rooseveltian way to boost his presidency
<><> wars are the MO to continue the flow of tax dollars to the Biden Crime Family.

Biden’s funding nine manufacturing projects with $169 million he snagged from last year’s climate bill, is being claimed under the “emergency authority of the Cold War-era Defense Production Act (DPA).”

Biden grabbed onto “war powers” to justify boosting spending for what he says is “clean energy” technology.

<><>On June 6, 2022, Biden invoked the Defense Production Act to accelerate domestic production of green energy technology.

The Biden administration was responding to growing energy costs caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The invocation came along with a 2-year tariff exemption that ends in June 2024 on solar panels from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The technology included in Biden’s invocation included solar energy; transformers and electric grid components; heat pumps; insulation; and electrolyzers, fuel cells, and platinum group metals.

<><>On November 17, 2023, the US Department of Energy announced $169,000,000 funded by the Inflation Reduction Act for nine projects at 15 sites to accelerate US-made electric heat pump manufacturing.

‘The President is using his wartime emergency powers under the Defense Production Act to turbocharge US manufacturing of clean technologies and strengthen our energy security,’ said Biden’s National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi in a statement.

REFERENCE The War Powers Resolution of 1973 (also known as the War Powers Act) “is a congressional resolution designed to limit the U.S. president’s ability to initiate or escalate military actions abroad.”

As part of our system of governmental “checks and balances,” the law aims to check the executive branch’s power when committing U.S. military forces to an armed conflict without the consent of the U.S. Congress. It stipulates the president must notify Congress within 48 hours of military action and prohibits armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days.

The Constitution divides war powers between Congress and the president. Only Congress can declare war and appropriate military funding, yet the president is commander in chief of the armed forces.
