Thanks for the pics, but how does the author almost double the rifle's weight? I think of a modern single shot, bolt action only in the sense that I think of some modern blackpowder muzzle loaders. This .50 cal. round has been around for about 80 years or more, IIRC.

" but how does the author almost double the rifle's weight?" The same way he makes the rounds nearly non-existent when I buy them off the Internet at two bucks a round for all I want to order and match ammo off the shelf for $4.80 a round for all I can afford (which is about ten).

Wow! That is a beauty!
I've got to admit, I have a love affair with the .50 caliber weapons.
I like to pull mine out at the rifle range and say,
"SEE! Mine's bigger than yours!"

Reporters and editors in many cases are not too bright.
Click the pic for a few more FReeper pics with TexasCowboy's 50 cal.
TexasCowboy lets us shoot it all we want!! He will even let you shoot his Sharps!

It has a really good push and blast, but the Sharps is like getting hit in the shoulder with a 4# sledge!!
I'll shoot the .50 all day before I shoot that damn buffalo gun again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read that the .50 BMG was created by Germans near the end of WW1 to penetrate the new war vehicle known as a tank.

I hate that .50.
Someone should melt them all down into a peace sculpture.
Or something.
To: humblegunner
"I hate that .50." Yeah, I can tell......
I'm sure that spit drooling out of your mouth everytime you shoot it is the result of a bad sinus infection.
Or something.

Where did you get that picture? I like it! Also, I have a Lee-Enfield just like that one.

Also, the author doesn't know much about ballisitics. Calibre alone is not a determiner. Other factors are: grains of powder, shape of projectile, mass of projectile, etc. Some .50cal musket balls would do little more than dent the fender of a truck. I really hate articles about firearms written by dolts who known damn little about them - arrgghh!
