This is the differance between the mighty mighty Marine Corps and the obsolete US Army (of course, take the ribbing to heart Army...:) yes, I know, we are part of the Department of Navy, but it is the Mens Department.
yes.
That is why the Marines took over for the Army... Differant approach with differant breed of fighting men.
The Army doesnt have any 'Sea Going Bellhops" carrying 'the Admiral's luggage'
:)
An Army guy stops at a bar outside Camp Lejeune. Next to him is a Marine Drill Sgt. He gives the guy a nudge, "Hey, wanna hear a joke about Marines?"
The Drill Instructor looks at him and says"See that woman at the end of the bar? She is 220 lbs and a Marine. See that
guy on your left, in the pink shirt down there? He's 200lbs and a Marine.
"Well soldier? Still want to tell us the joke?
"Nah! I don't want to explain the punchline three times!
wrong
I was always careful not to participate in any "interservice ribbing" and to show respect to all service members. I know it happens a lot, but I know that each service member is vital to our security, therefore I always appreciated them all. In fact, I did one tour in SHAPE, Belgium and served with service members from all NATO countries. It opened my eyes in appreciation of other countries service members too.
What did that jarhead shines his shoes with ...a hersey bar?
:)
ok, you win
The basic difference between the two services boils down to a belief in people.
The Army believes that if shuffles and reshuffles the organization charts - if it changes regiments to Pentomic battle groups, then into brigades, and now into who knows what - that victory is assured, regardless of the quality of the soldiers in those units.
The Marine Corps believes that if it finds the right people, trains and motivates them properly, then the structure of the organization doesn't matter.
You should see the fights my brothers and I had (one is Spec Ops/US Army, the other- a basic grunt, I - Bn Security Team/Co Sniper, former Tanker). Rivalry is part of a healthy spirit and pride you take in ones branch. Without any "ribbing", you lack pride. When you lack pride, your Drill Instructor failed you.
Well, to be honest, the first thing that jumps out at me is that both are in the "fig leaf" position!
During the American Revolution, the red coats looked pretty impressive too.
Ribbing between brothers is a heck of a lot different than ribbing a board with 100,000 readers. Many of these members served in on branch or another. In addition, the ribbing comes at a time when unity and mutual respect is necessary.
I realize you meant this in fun. I'm just throwing my 0.02 in....
... and the fact that these two are working as a team should not be lost.
Both services can sparkle on parade or get get down and dirty when called to.
And when the crap hits the fan, either one would give his life for our freedom!

I wouldn't worry, most of the marines won't get it any way.
Libo secured, "all Marine Corps bases, mainland Japan for the next two weekends. D Co 1st TV Bn, all liberty is secured and filled with extra duty for your unit til you return stateside!"
Now, that was a good show of rivarly ribbing!
My wife has got gloves just like that.
The second thing is:
The USMC is unquestionably a part of the US NAVY. As of June 24, 2004 the Commandant of the Marine Corp still answers to the Secretary of the Navy and is still a part of the DoN.
The complete DoD Organization Chart can be linked from the DoD home page.
