Every reporter covering the election should, after the second presidential debate in St. Louis, be demanding of Kerry an answer to the following question: Who are the scientists who told you that "we have the option" of curing Parkinson's, diabetes, spinal-cord injuries, or any other disease using embryonic stem cells? If they won't ask him, the Bush campaign should defy him to name the names. He won't be able to do it. No scientists even those most pro-Kerry and aggressively in favor of the federal funding of embryo-destructive research ever told Kerry any such thing.
What Kerry has done here is told the big lie about embryonic stem cells. The claim that "we have the option" of curing Parkinson's disease, diabetes, etc. with embryonic stem cells is outrageous. No one knows when or even whether or not human embryonic stem cells will be therapeutically useful in treating any major disease or injury. There are profound perhaps insuperable problems with the therapeutic use of these cells. So, despite the fact that there is no federal ban on embryonic-stem-cell research, and that such research can be funded with state money and is being publicly funded in various places abroad, no embryonic-stem-cell-based therapy is even in clinical trials.
For months now, the Kerry campaign and its surrogates, such as Ron Reagan Jr., have cruelly led suffering people to believe that cures for their diseases are just around the corner. All we have to do is replace Bush with Kerry, open the federal funding spigot, and presto! The blind see and the lame walk! The Kerry campaign's hyping of embryo-destructive research for political gain is the cruelest and most shameful episode in the story of the 2004 election.
What Elizabeth Long (the woman who asked Kerry the stem-cell question) said is true: "Thousands of people have already been cured or treated by the use of adult stem cells or umbilical-cord stem cells. However, no one has been cured by using embryonic stem cells. Wouldn't it be wise to use stem cells obtained without the destruction of an embryo?
Kerry answered with a lie. A lie that will falsely inflate the hopes of countless people who would dearly love to believe that "we have the option" of curing them.
Robert P. George is McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and director of the James Madison Program at Princeton University.
How can you tell when Kerry is lying?
His lips are moving.
The stem cell lie is just another lie in the culture of death handbook -- from abortion, to euthanasia, so-called selective reduction in fertility clinics -- it's all part of the selfish mantra of man that he/she has the right to be happy irrespective of the costs.
Great link explaining the facts on the politics of stem cell research:

I was VERY glad to hear the stem cell question asked in the debate last time. First time I've heard anything in the MSM about the difference between embryonic and adult stem cells, both in terms of hype vs. reality, and the tremendous difference in the cost of human life.
Pres. Bush continues to disappoint me in not articulating this important distinction, though I appreciate his support in the actual decisions. I think Bush treads lightly on abortion and other life issues. And, obviously, he has a much better political sense than I do of what the public is ready for.
Anyway, I'm very glad a lot of people heard about this last night.

This is satan's goal. As Jesus said in John 8:44, "...he was a liar from the beginning..."
My 13 year old son has Type 1 diabetes. Having a chronically ill child has, if anything, increased my belief in the sanctity of human life. Unfortunately, the major diabetes charities have been taken over by the embryo research fanatics. The focus on embryonic stem cells is tragically diverting attention and money from other areas of research -- like adult stem cell therapies -- that are far more promising and do not destroy life.
Did anyone catch what Kerry said about the existing cells that are being used now are contaminated with mouse feces? I can't believe that. How did that happen and IF true, why would they still be being used for research? Labs just don't let that happen.
My prayers for your son.
Robert P. George is a great man and an extraordinary teacher. God knows how he ever got a job at Princeton in these days of political correctness.
I believe he said mouse cells, not feces. But I do find that hard to believe.
Maybe it was mouse cells.....that doesn't make sense to me either.
Kerry lies about EVERYTHING.
If I could die to save an embryo - guaranteed - I may well do it. Is that an inflammatory statement? Why then, do we talk so casually about killing embryos for ourselves?
The ones demanding other people die for them are, imho, those least worth dying for. The very fact they demand death for their lives nullifies their own worthiness.
I WILL NEVER, EVER ACCEPT TREATMENT THAT HAS RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF ANOTHER HUMAN BEING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. PERIOD. EVEN IF IT MEANS MY OWN LIFE. If others feel this way, we need to start a national "Stop the killing" registry. I'm sick and tired to the point of rage of hearing the left-wing ads here in WA state about "The Republican wants to scale back embryonic stem cell research", as though that were a BAD thing. NO!!! That's a GOOD THING! Life is a good thing.
Sorry, I feel passionately about this matter, enough to die for it.
My prayer is that embryo research continues to fail.
If embryo research breaks through, political restraint will collapse; other research lines will be dropped; and the industrial prodcution process will ramp up. Many thousands of embyros will then be consumed for the sake of treating the few. Cloning will probably be needed to meet the manufacturing requirements.
Having lost the political battle over embryonic cells, I'll then have the happy prospect of keeping my son on painful and only modestly effective old therapies while all around us other young diabetics receive their "miracle cures" and return to normal life. This is my personal nightmare scenario!
That would be extremely painful and difficult. Tough to fathom. These words came to me with respect to your hypothetical situation: "Great is thy reward in Heaven."
I think Bush is trying to do everything he can to let Kerry paint himself negatively, while avoiding personally saying anything negative about him. I can understand why he's doing this, but at the same time I do wish someone would come out and ask what reason is there to believe that embryonic stem cells are likely to have any more promise than the adult-stem-cell therapies that are already showing results? I can think of some reasons why people might favor embryonic stem cell research, but none of them are morally good.
