Just heard on Fox that U.S. Senate will convene today in emergency session regarding Terri Schiavo.
This is why I become so infuriated at those that accuse them of grandstanding or doing nothing. The public does not know the details, the MSM is lying, and thanks to the short time in this instance there is no time to explain it. It's developing moment by moment. But the Reps are doing it anyway no matter the cost. They need to be respected and supported for doing the right thing in the face of public ignorance. And those few Dems that are apparently signing on, I thank them as well.

This is the difference. My step-grandfather died from lung cancer after a long painful illness. This was in the days before hospice care, and also when it was hard to get enough pain medication for late stage cancer (as it can still be).
It would have been worth it to go into hospice for him, to ease the pain. One night he tried to commit suicide with a hand gun it hurt so bad, but my grandmother stopped him.
A dear friend of mine, one of those who would come by the office just to bs for awhile, developed ALS, and chose not to go on the respirator. He too chose the hospice route, which was a good way for him and his family to let him slip away, surrounded by the people he loved.
Terri, though, is merely a victim of a condition that many people fear, loath, would hate to be in.
And so, because she represents a personal nightmare, they concoct stories of suffering, or other reasons why she should be put down.
Her life does not have the quality ours has, this is true. But she is not suffering like a person dying. She is merely a memento of what we don't want to become.
And for some, that make it all the more reason why she needs to go.

You pretend to think you know me or what I stand for from posts you have read. I am a frequent poster on the Canteen thread. I enjoy the support of the Military on that thread and chatting with Freepers. Just because I don't post to other threads, doesn't mean I don't read them. I'm sorry that doesn't meet to your approval. I do not have to defend my posts to you. Although, I do think I was quite clear on why I thought they should have met sooner.
She was (and I don't remember the facts of the case) presumably able to prove that (1) the Enquirer was malicious against her AND (2) engaged in a reckless disregard for the truth. It has to be BOTH situations to be libel.

Tell me does it not worry you in the least all of the stories that she tries to communicate? If they are even slightly true then brain dead she is not. But you would be on the side of killing her in a tortuous manner and not finding out or even caring that other agendas are at work here to kill a woman who just might not want to die?
Sorry, I would never understand people who would do this to this woman, nor do I ever want to. At least kill her in a humane manner, a bullet to the head would be kinder than the death thought up for her. Our sick dogs receive better treatment.

She sued on the basis it was a lie, she had nothing to drink that day and the jury awarded her I believe it was 1 Million.
It is my belief a husband/wife trumps parents. If that is not a sacred bond then lets just go down the democrat right of way. I refuse to do that. I have made my decision to marry my wonderful husband. I have told him my beliefs and I have to believe he will honor my wishes, if he doesn't it falls on me and my BAD JUDGMENT
As someone who has needed a feeding tube I can tell you it isn't the way I would want to live my life. But as I said, different medical conditions require different therapy
This is by far one of the most difficult decision one can make. Unless on a jury implementing death.

I think the pinging is a courtesy. She lost her courtesy from me after her incredible vulgar postings about Terri Schiavo. I owe her nothing. In fact, she is getting a very cordial kiss off from me as far as freepers go I would think.
So please don't lecture me, I am on my very last nerve.
The facts of this case are terribly sad, but they are not hard to understand. There's really nothing to be confused about, and as best I can tell, nothing's been overlooked by anyone. Terri's situation has arguably received more judicial attention, more medical attention, more executive attention, and more "due process," than any other guardianship case in history. Terri's family has had the benefit of excellent legal representation as well as the Governor's own top-notch attorneys, all of whom have scoured the case for ways to assist the effort to keep Terri's feeding tube in place.
My second thought concerns the nature of trials. As you probably know (or will learn if you read the material below), Judge Greer held a full trial in this case to determine how Terri would choose to exercise her privacy rights. Michael was on one side; Terri's parents were on the other. Both sides brought witnesses and experts. In the end, the judge ruled that Terri would not wish to continue receiving nurishment and hydration through a surgically implanted tube.
Trials like this, where someone's life may literally be on the line, are held every day in courtrooms across the state and around the country. Most involve crimes, but not all. In every case, lawyers marshal witnesses, present evidence, and make arguments to further their clients' interests. The decisions made by the judge or jury may affect whether someone lives or dies, whether someone spends his or her life in prison, or whether someone will have to pay another debilitating sums of money.
Whether as a party, a witness, or a juror, those who have the opportunity to participate in trials should take their roles seriously, offering their best efforts to further the search for truth. At the same time, the public should realize that once a trial is over, the decision is made, and it was made based on the evidence. Appeals are almost always available, but if the judgment is affirmed, only very rarely will there be an opportunity to get a new decision based on evidence not previously presented.

You're welcome. I'm trying hard not to get caught up in the rancor but it's not easy. I have been restraining myself reading some of what has been said here.
But I firmly believe her husband does not have her best interests or wishes at heart, has been trying to kill her for years and he has to be stopped.
I reassured him that it was more important for him to stay there. My point is that they are willing to sacrifice to see this thing through. Sensenbrenner canceled a trip to Australia.
I responded to the vulgar expression and the demeaning of Terry Schiavo. That is all. I don't care what her opinion is. I objected to the low vulgar way she expressed it.
But what about the congressional investigation -- won't it blow the lid of Pinellas Co. corruption and force the federal court to change George W. Greer's "findings of fact"?
I agree with you that this is about fear of death, but I disagree with your actual thesis that it's just tough for us to look at her. We just have different definitions of compassion. By the way, I love your screen name.

And I am sorry if I helped you get in trouble with certain people here who lecture on respecting others who are demeaning helpless women whose husbands are killing them
