Today we are featuring more suggestions, observations and reminders on how to live a happy and rewarding life. Some are private, most are excerpts from "Life's Little Instruction Book" by H. Suggestions on how to live a happy & rewarding life:

Take time to smell the roses.

Never buy a coffee table you can’t put your feet on.

Say something positive as early as possible every day.

Believe in miracles but don’t depend on them.

Regardless of the situation, remember that nothing is ever lost by courtesy.

Enjoy the satisfaction that comes from doing little things well.

Never go near a kid who’s holding a water hose unless you want to get wet.

Never allow anyone to intimidate you.

Always compliment flower gardens and new babies.

When reading self-help books, include the Bible.

Don’t work for recognition, but do work worthy of recognition.

Share your knowledge and experiences.

Remember that a kind word goes a long way.

When no great harm will result, let your children do it their way, even if you know they are wrong. They will learn more from their mistakes than from their successes.

Forgive quickly.

Kiss slowly.

Remember that the word discipline means “to teach”.

Remember the three universal healers: calamine lotion, warm oatmeal, and hugs.

Kiss your children good night, even if they are already asleep.

To fight the blues, try exercising.

Learn the Heimlich maneuver.

Spend twice as much time praising as you do criticizing.

Remember the credo of Walt Disney: Think. Believe. Dream. Dare.

Remember that life’s big changes rarely give advance warning.

Teach your children never to underestimate someone with a disability.

Seek respect rather than popularity.

Seek quality rather than luxury.

Start a “smile file” of jokes, articles, and cartoons that make you laugh.

Start a “read again file” for articles you might want to enjoy a second time.

If you are not going to use a discount coupon, leave it on the shelf with the product for someone else to use.

Respect your elders.

When loved ones drive away, watch and wave until you can no longer see the car.

On your birthday, send your mom a thank you card.

Wage war against procrastination.

Type out your favorite quotation and place it where you can see it every day.

Offer hope.

Let your word be your bond.

Be happy with what you have while working for what you want.

Celebrate even small victories.

After going to bed, refuse to worry about problems until the morning.

Redeem gift certificates promptly.

Remember that a grateful heart is almost always a happy one.

Don’t forget that a couple of words of praise or encouragement can make someone’s day.

Whenever you hear an ambulance siren, say a prayer for the person inside.

Never criticize a gift.

Never leave a loved one in anger.

Keep a roll of duct tape at home, at the office and in your car.

When in doubt smile.

Never be too busy to meet someone new.

Remember that cruel words deeply hurt.

Remember that loving words quickly heal.

Plant a tree the day your child or grandchild is born.

Toss in a coin when passing a wishing well.

Become the world’s most thoughtful friend.

Don’t be so open-minded that your brains fall out.

Put a love note in your spouse’s luggage before he/she leaves on a trip.

Never underestimate the influence of the people you have allowed into your life.

Never swap your integrity for money, power, or fame.

Never sell yourself short.

Never be ashamed of your patriotism.

Never be ashamed of honest tears.

The Teacher's Legacy

Bible In One Year: Psalm 49-51

Pastor Paul Walker shared this story of his salvation experience: "During my lifetime I was instructed by many different Sunday school teachers, but only one stands out in my memory. He was a big, red-faced ex-Marine, who probably broke every rule and technique of good teaching. The thing I remember best about him is how much he loved us. . . .

"At the end of each session he would say, 'Boys, let's take time to kneel and talk to the Lord.' Then he would try to put his big arms around all nine of us as we huddled together, and he would pray for each of us by name. Are you surprised that seven of those boys are now in the ministry, and that I am one of them?"

If you have a Sunday school class, small group, or some other teaching responsibility, do you take a warm, personal interest in your students? The apostle Paul said he commended himself as a minister of God "by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love" (2 Corinthians 6:6).

The exact methods employed by the one who taught Paul Walker do not need to be duplicated, but the earnest attention he gave and the spiritual concern he showed toward each pupil is a beautiful example of the importance of teaching by love. -Henry Bosch
