A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Liberals, repeat after me: Ambassador John Bolton
by JohnHuang2
Recall the blasts last week outside a building housing the British consulate in New York, which broke a window? Hardball host Chris Matthews, watching the speechless horror unfold on TV, wondered, "Can we say we're safe with Manhattan again under fire?" Which prompted Matthews' grief-stricken guest, Chris Matthews, to say: "We were told, if we fought in Iraq, we wouldn't fight here. It looks like we're fighting on both fronts." Yes, breaking windows and shattering flower pots on empty streets at 3 in the morning is so typical of Osama, the most wanted man on the planet, who was last spotted waltzing into a building housing that notorious global terrorist supplier, Toys R Us, tossing a couple of toy grenades into his shopping cart.

We invade Afghanistan, topple the Taliban, invade Iraq, topple Saddam, and whatta ya know, terrorists hit back with firecrackers and a piece of concrete smashing through a window. And don't forget the charred remains of crabgrass in that flower pot. Democrats warned this would happen! Years from now, historians will be writing about The Toy Grenade Attacks. Expect al-Qaeda to escalate further, possibly culminating in the grisly horror of naked street protests!
The Left is so politically and ideologically bankrupt, the best they can do to "prove" America is not safe with Bush in charge is to get Code Pink to detonate toy grenades in the dead of night. No attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11, eh? Can't say that anymore, not after the Manhattan firecracker tragedy.
In short, Bush has reduced terrorism to a nuisance! With so many al-Qaeda "insurgents" being killed in Iraq, and fewer and fewer "insurgents" to fill the resulting empty positions, kinda hard to find good help these days, from an al-Qaeda management perspective. If you're an al-Qaeda boss, you spend nearly all your time these days fighting poor retention and low morale, given the growing number of job-related deaths. And with few workplace perks to keep employees from searching for other opportunities for advancement, your hands are tied. Al-Qaeda bogged down in Iraq means no al-Qaeda attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11.
Yet, nothing illustrates the Democrats' pathetic state of affairs than those predawn dummy grenade attacks, and the way they seized on them as evidence Bush has failed (Bin Laden Orders Window Breaking in New York: Bush Did Nothing To Stop It!). The event is the perfect metaphor for the Democrat Party today. Bush, running rings around them, then taunting them by wiggling his hips and bobbing his head to a Georgia dance beat, has turned Democrats from threat to nuisance -- small makeshift "grenades" blowing themselves up but barely chipping paint off W's building. Harry Reid? The man's political father, George Mitchell, is a talented fella, but I think this guy is a loser.
It was his big idea to have the party pull out all the stops to defeat the "controversial" Condi Rice nomination, 'cause she's too extreme. It backfired. Then he had another big idea -- pull out all the stops to defeat the "controversial" Alberto Gonzalez nomination, 'cause he's too extreme. It backfired. And now the battle to defeat the "controversial" Bolton nomination. It's backfiring. A scheduled committee vote dating back to the Ming Dynasty in China was delayed when Sen. George Voinovich, who didn't attend the hearings, said he couldn't vote because he didn't attend the hearings. The Democrats' response to getting creamed in three straight elections for obstruction is to try to delay the Bolton vote at least until the next presidential inauguration. Yeah, that'll work, you halfwits! Bolton'll just be re-nominated by President-elect Condi Rice.
And, as if the Democrats didn't have problems enough, Bolton's prospects brightened further on Monday when Hans Blix came out against him. Mr. Magoo says Bolton's too myopic for the job, pointing to stark evidence Bolton's not fond of the U.N. Gotta hand it to Blix. He says Bolton, by supposedly questioning the value of treaties and the value of those extra 10 floors of the U.N. building (where Zimbabwe just got a seat on the Human Rights Commission, right next to Scott Peterson), has damaged the U.S. stance on Iran, for example. Well, let's see. Iran says the U.S. has no credibility regarding WMDs. Blix and the Democrats agree with Iran. Bush takes the funny view that Iran has oil gushing from every skin pore and doesn't need nuclear power. Iran says the U.S. just wants a pretext to invade Iran. Blix and the Democrats agree with Iran. See the pattern here? Clearly, Blix and the Democrats have America's best interests at heart.
Democrats voted to confirm Bolton four other times, but now they want you to think he's some intelligence-analyst-snuffing humanoid mutation with webbed hands and feet, straight out of some lagoon.
As we can see in the filibuster fight, liberals have trouble with 3rd grade civics. Maybe it's too hard for them, so lets take it slow. First, you win the elections. This means you get to choose your ambassador. You choose your ambassador. If you're trying to please Harry Reid, you pick one who will bend over for France. If you want a genuine American representing America at the U.N., you pick John Bolton.
At first, Democrats attacked Bolton on the basis that he has a combustible personality inappropriate for dealing constructively with warm, subdued personalities like Kim Jong Il or Iran's charming and witty mullahs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But the charge didn't stick. Then they attacked Bolton 'cause he offended incompetent subordinates. His yelling scared them so much, they had to be given little white teddy bears and lollipops to reassure them. They still hear Bolton's voice at bedtime.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But the charge didn't stick. Then they attacked Bolton 'cause he tried to fire lousy subordinates, then attacked him 'cause he couldn't fire lousy subordinates. Neither charge stuck. No analyst who clashed with Bolton over lousy intel got canned -- erroneous intel remained safely erroneous. Even Lincoln Chafee is satisfied nothing was fixed!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then they attacked Bolton 'cause Richard Armitage opposed him, but Armitage came out in favor of him recently, so liberals are now back to demanding documents detailing Bolton's performance and interpersonal skills during his days in High School art class.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Joe Biden, facing a bitch-slapping this Thursday, complains that Bolton "tried to stretch the envelope" on intel regarding WMD capabilities in Iran and North Korea. So here we have North Korea saying 'BOLTON WAS RIGHT -- WE HAVE NUKES! HELLO?', but the thumbsucker from Delaware thinks Bolton's the problem.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Liberals, repeat after me: Ambassador John Bolton. But, hey, look at the bright side: France is calling you.
Anyway, that's...
My two cents
Welcome to The Finest!
Come on in and read John's take on the whacky liberals for a good laugh.
To: Aquamarine
All I've heard the demokkkrats say so far is that Bolton's too much of an a$$hole for the job, and not that he's guilty of any sort of crime or malfeasance or anything like that. Far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as being too much of an a$$hole for this particular job; the guy I'd want would be the biggest a$$hole I could possibly find. My ideal candidate would be Simon Lagree, but I'd settle for Bolton...
Free-Falling
The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. -Deuteronomy 33:27
|
In the tender song of Moses found in today's Bible reading, God is portrayed as a dedicated mother eagle who can be trusted by her young, even in the scary experience of their learning to fly (Deuteronomy 32:11-12).
A mother eagle builds a comfortable nest for her young, padding it with feathers from her own breast. But the God-given instinct that builds that secure nest also forces the eaglets out of it before long. Eagles are made to fly, and the mother eagle will not fail to teach them. Only then will they become what they are meant to be. So one day the mother eagle will disturb the twigs of the nest, making it an uncomfortable place to stay. Then she will pick up a perplexed eaglet, soar into the sky, and drop it. The little bird will begin to free-fall. Where is Mama now? She is not far away. Quickly she will swoop under and catch the fledgling on one strong wing. She will repeat this exercise until each eaglet is capable of flying on its own. Are you afraid of free-falling, unsure of where or how hard you will land? Remember, God will fly to your rescue and spread His everlasting arms beneath you. He will also teach you something new and wonderful through it. Falling into God's arms is nothing to be afraid of. -Joanie Yoder
He will ever keep your soul, What would harm, He will control; In the home and by the way He will keep you day by day. -Psalter
God's love does not keep us from trials but sees us through them.
Great work John & great layout/graphic selections Aqua.. I need very much to clean today between a meeting with some church folks at lunch & dinner meeting - Heritage Republican club tonight.
Mayor.. smile pretty for the camera. I am so proud of you to jump in the ring & run for public office. It is a mudslinging fest anymore & too few feel willing to put up with it.
My meeting this afternoon is with the seniors at our church. I am starting a senior citizen/retired folks group & also will be facilitating a widow/widower/divorced support group. This is rather an organizational chat..
came across this on Being/Getting Old. Thought it was worth sharing
@@@
The other day a young person asked me how I felt about being old. I was taken aback, for I do not think of myself as old. Upon seeing my reaction, she was immediately embarrassed, but I explained that it was an interesting question, and I would ponder it, and let her know.
Old age, I decided, is a gift. I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be. Oh, not my body! I sometime despair over my body - but I don't agonize over it for long. I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become more kind to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avant garde on my patio. I am entitled to overeat, to be messy, to be extravagant. I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it if I choose to read until 4 am, and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 50's & 60's, and if I at the same time wish to weep over a lost love, I will. I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten and I eventually remember the important things. Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect. I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turn gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver. I can say "no," and mean it. I can say "yes," and mean it. As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.
So, to answer the question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. For the first time in my life, I don't have to have a reason to do the things I want to do. If I want to play games on the computer all day, lay on the couch and watch old movies for hours or don't want to go to the beach or a movie, I have earned that right. I have put in my time doing everything for others, so now I can be a bit selfish without feeling guilty.
I sometimes feel sorry for the young. They face a far different world than I knew growing up, where we feared the law, respected the old, the flag, our country. I never felt the need to use filthy language in order to express myself. And they too will grow old someday. I am grateful to have been born when I was, into a kinder, gentler world.
Yes, I like being old!
I spent most of day in Akron at hospital with friend but while he was in surgery I bike with friend John in one of the metro parks on towpath & some roads....Molly, recognize this lock? Near Mustill.. and we found a snapping turtle hatchling ON the tow path..we took MANY pix of the little fella & put him down by the water where he would be safe from bike tires, dogs, footsteps. He was tiny & camouflaged as a rock. Ride cut short as friend is cop & got call to "come in (on day off)& fight crime" ... or something like that.
Having a picture taken tonight for the buffalo news on the front steps of county hall. That's great, be sure to post it here.
I think we're all a little busy this time of year, know I am. Will have to leave soon to to go down and help my mom with her yard work. She's getting too old to take care of it by herself.
To: DollyCali; LadyX
Thanks for the post Dolly. The Being/Getting Old article sounded as if LadyX could have written it. She is enjoying her golden years, staying up late (FReeping) not being on a set schedule. I'm looking forward to that kind of freedom one day. :)
