A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....07-15 thru 07-17-05....T.G.I.F. at the Finest
Billie

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, Mama_Bear, Dutchess, Aquamarine, Dolly Cali ~

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown.
I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Morning, Mrs. N. Thank you - I usually have to post and run on Friday mornings, and I'm always late getting the weekend thread posted, but it's here Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and everyone has gotten used to just coming and going as they wish. Would love for you to post some more cute/pretty tables. I enjoy seeing all the colors and patterns when I open the thread. :)

Am about to log off and get back to the little courtyard I've been sprucing up all week - with FLOWERS! (and I'm not a flower person - OR a yard person!)

Howdy there Billie! Thanks for getting us started this AM. I have been putting out other little fires on the home front & at this point need to get to work on my "other computer" . No jeopardy on next week's thread as long as this computer hangs on.. BUT I will not be able to access my cache of materials that I was going to use so might change directions on what I will do for the thread.

Our drought is over.. washed away just about yesterday evening. No need to water for few days.

Lets all keep GabZ in our prayers.. her ankle surgery in this AM & she will be kept there for 23 hours w/o computer access (unless a good buddy/family member) brings her a satellite lap top to play with.

Pookie's Toons Alert

Very disheartened to see Pookie's daily toon thread was pulled. I normally go there very early in AM.. but didn't this am due to problems here. Comment was NOT a family thread or something like that.

Hey, this is a family thread. Pookie's toons is an adult thread.. If there was an offensive to MANY not just one ... toon it could have been removed. Pinging a few of our Toons friends to join us here for "whatever" and also to make comments on the pulling of the thread. I didn't see "it" so can't really comment. But I do think there is a place for the big boys & girls to be able to post.

I know there is a fine line sometimes between acceptable & not.. what do you all think?

No Looking Back

Read:
Luke 9:57-62

No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. —Luke 9:62

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 25-27

cover When I was a boy on the farm, my dad would tell me, "You can't plow a straight row if you look back." You can test this for yourself by looking back as you walk through snow or along a sandy beach. Your tracks won't be straight.

A good farmer doesn't look back once he has put his hand to the plow. Jesus used this analogy to teach us that if we are to be His disciples we must make a complete break with all loyalties that hinder our relationship with Him.

Total allegiance to God is a principle that is rooted in the Old Testament. The Israelites, after being freed from slavery and fed by supernatural means, looked back longingly to the days when they enjoyed fish, cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic in Egypt (Numbers 11:5-6). God was greatly displeased, and He judged His people. Their looking back indicated a lack of commitment to Him.

Today, people who cling to old sins and the worldly pleasures they enjoyed before becoming Christians cannot be loyal disciples of Jesus Christ. When we repent and believe in Him, we become citizens of a new kingdom. We are to break with the sins of the past.

Discipleship means no looking back. —Herb Vander Lugt

As a follower of Jesus,
I am walking in His way;
Straight ahead till life is over,
I will walk with Him each day. —Hess

In the dictionary of discipleship, you won't find the word "retreat."

Thanks for note..

Never know how to handle certain things. To be safe it might be easier to have a little section each day titled:

Do not open if you are easily offended by graphics..(or some other "catchy" title)

forewarned etc.

Have a good weekend & hope you have some clear weather for golfing!

That is wonderful - you are getting so proficient. I need to leave this "working" computer & do something about the one that IS NOT WORKING. Later all..

Thanks, Mayor, for your daily cuppa (mine was tea) and a lesson from the Word. We must all learn to keep our eyes where they belong--on the Lord!

Ya having a good day? Careful up on that roof! Hope your petition that you turned in will be successful getting you in the parade.

Thinking of you, Gabz, and hoping your surgery went well and you will be recovering *better and faster than expected*! Meanwhile, since you won't be doing much gardening and housework and stuff, you can spend more time here when you get home. :)

Wow--if you can do something about a non-working computer, you are the one who is proficient! My computing is limited to things that work now. ;o)

Have fun and I'll have a pretty table posted for you when you get back.

BTW,I am tutoring a friend at the Canteen on how to post tables and frames,I have been telling her about FR Finest and I know she lurks here every so often.

Maybe I can get her to post here as well, but she is kind of shy.LOL.

Thanks again for teaching me how to post tables and frames.
