If you take a look at the news you'll see how rapidly it took a turn last night, it'll get more unstable as it reaches landfall but its probably too late for any major changes now.

God strike me dead for saying so, but MSNBC seems to have much better coverage than Fox at this point --

They're using either real cameras or much better sat-cams, and --

They don't have Shep Smith on non-stop saying "Move along - nothing to see here"

The eye wall has disintegrated to the southwest and yes, NO has dodged this bullet. Texas sent her some of our high dry air, which we have plenty of in August. There will be flooding, but Geraldo can get down out of the Ark. I'm afraid this will go down as ANOTHER example of media over-kill, which someday will lead to disaster.

Just got up...and saw Shep.

He sounds like this is going to be SO much less of a storm for NO than he thought yesterday...

Is that so? It would be amazing if so, because the storm looks pretty much the same as when I went to bed about 6 hours ago...

perhaps, but this is going to test that scenario described in detail yesterday here, repeated from Bastardi and all those modelers, about the western side of the eye pushing the lake into NO.

Yeah, unless a 2 by 4 makes a large tunnel between his eyes...

The imaging still shows a clean eye.

It is still Category 4.

Hardly over.

The thing has barely made landfall and everyone is celebrating...

its too early to tell right now.

Additionally, there could be delays in flooding and there will eventually be a large outflow from the Mississippi for a few days after. Flooding could also occur a long ways inland along the Mississippi. There will be flooding and local rescues everywhere this storm goes.

I thought the same thing when I woke up the morning.
Not so.
We haven't heard from the step-dauther and her family of seven yet. Hoping it's because of the phone lines......I'm sure they are okay. They booked out of Gulfport yesterday at about 10:30.

It is 60 miles and 4 hours until the closest approach of the eye to NO proper. Even if it passes off to the east some, do NOT assume it is over. It is just barely hitting the coast now... look at the radar!
