Under Secretary-General Jan Egeland said his office had offered the services of the U.N.'s disaster assistance
I hope they won't be too stingy.

Yesterday I Emailed Egeland. Response follows:
Lee: We have been in contact with the US Government to offer help. The Secretary General has issued a statement expressing his condolences. I may also speak to the press on this. The UN will help in any way we can. Best regards, Jan

Rice says all hurricane aid offers from other countries will be accepted I love our leadership. "Yo, put up or shut up."
I thank God they're smart enough to put the loudmouths on the left on the defensive.

No, no, no. You all misunderstand. He doesn't mean he'll send aid. He means he'll send disaster.

I think he meant he'll send AIDS.

I finally figured it out. Jesse Jackson and Hugo Chavez are behind the hurricane so Chavez can run to the rescue and prove he is a good guy and make Bush look bad.

The UN is playing nice in hopes of Bolton, et. al. not digging too hard on their corruption and scandals.

Still, Bush told ABC-TV: "I'm not expecting much from foreign nations because we hadn't asked for it. I do expect a lot of sympathy and perhaps some will send cash dollars. But this country's going to rise up and take care of it."In other words, they might offer but only a few will actually follow through. Bush slapped 'em.
I think this reporter meant to say "President" Bush. /sarcasm

"no offer that can help alleviate the suffering of the people in the afflicted area will be refused," Excellent. We'll just deduct the amount from our aid to them and keep a running tab open for the rest.

There'd be a tidy sum available if a stop payment was placed on checks sent to "Palestine".

The United Nations informed U.S. Ambassador John R. Bolton it was prepared to support the relief effort "in any way possible." The only "help" that comes to mind that we should not accept. If the U.N. wants to help, they can leave the U.S.

There'd be a tidy sum available if a stop payment was placed on checks sent to "Palestine". It won't happen. Nice to see the victims will get some of the funds. Maybe there's hope for the 9/11 victims too.

I have a suggestion for how the UN can help. Let's move the UN to New Orleans!

I'm livid about this transaction myself. The thought of my tax dollars, which when broken down to my share alone which is more like pennies, is TOO much.

I can't remember when I've seen a natural disaster that's been as politicized as this one has.
