Now hear this:

Thanks to John McCain, Free Republic will shut down tomorrow at high noon for 30 days. No non government approved electioneering messages may be transmitted over the internet for the 30 days immediately preceding a primary election.

That is all.

The above exercise was just a drill. But if John McCain has his way with his proposed rules for regulating political free speech on the internet, this is how we will be forced to operate in the coming election cycle and all election cycles in the future until we can get the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold act repealed.

I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

If the thought of losing your right to express yourself online makes you mad, it is high time you let Senator John McCain know how you feel.

I think it would be more than a little fitting to house him in a replica of a certain POW camp . . . given that he wants to limit our Constitutional freedoms so much.

I wouldn't vote for him under ANY circumstances. The man is scary. He is in dire need of a brain transplant.

This MUST be shot down in flames.

. . . in flames, in rocket's red glare, in fireworks, with great fanfare and loud trumpets blaring.

Kind of funny that the first amendment now only protects crucifixes in urine and not political speech

GRRRR tooooooo true.

And the puppet masters, including the Russian Communists were funding such erosion of rights and the arts for the last 50 years, at least.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Senator Clinton has recommended Jamie Gorelick as the first Commissioner of the Internet. [The Clinton's owe Gorelick big-time for her efforts to deflect the 9-11 Commission and quell Able Danger.]

Oh super wretch! What a hideous nightmare! What a projectile vommit trigger! Makes my skin crawl.

God have mercy on us!

Write, phone, fax, carrier pigeon all elected officials in Congress and the President that this must be repealed.

There was another pending law that McCain's holding up in committee mentioned above (last 150 posts) to repeal it effectively.

I think the 2004 election was won largely by internet debates...hostile or otherwise. This may why they're targeting the internet now. And I wouldn't be surprised to learn that, in the near future, they're going to tax internet users. They've taxed everything else!

A website which is more than 50% devoted to political commentary may fall within some ridiculous parameters governing this particular "law". I doubt that 50% of the commentary on FR is of a strictly political nature--even in the throes of an election cycle.

And remove Political/Election as a type of posting topic. Any articles that might have been posted under Political can be posted under News/Current Events or whatever...... Just a thought to maybe beat them at their own game....

af, what you said is very true, there's no denying that we are in a very dire evolving situation in this country.

Are you sure that the America we once knew is not already dead or dying?

But, here comes the but...but, we ain't dead yet. In my mind, when I see the US become a mirror image of what the Soviet Union was when it was at it's zenith, then, America will be truly dead. When all our property is seized and we are put in collective housing, then America will be dead. When America's veterans, such a Jim Robinson and millions of others are thrown into jail for speaking out against the ever growing tyranny of a handful of elitist socialist at the top of the food chain in our country, America will be truly dead.

More and more laws that control our day to day lives are being handed out and accepted by the majority of Americans. I say accepted because of our inaction to counter and fight against them. Inaction is a sign of acception. If they don't see us railing against more and more control on our lives, it's a signal to them to just keep on taking, see how far they can push us up against the wall before we start fighting back. When all of our rights have been trampled on and discarded, then America will be truly dead.

We ain't dead yet. There's still alot of life left in us and that will be their undoing. They will feel over confident because of the lack of opposition in what they are pulling in this country. How much farther they can push and how much more we will take is entirely up to 'we the people'.

Sorry for the rant.

They were adamant that America would maintain those principals. However, there are those among us that would do any thing to see us fall to third world status.
...
I believe it is time to stand up for what we believe in before it is to late to do so. So I pray for this country every night with my children.

AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!

Interesting the complaints about McCain. For some reason I remember another Republican actually signing this bill into law.

At the time, certain left-wing groups (though their influence wasn't revealed until later) made it look like there was a groundswell of demand for campaign finance reform. Bush promised that if Congress put a bill in front of him, he would sign it. He recognized that it was unconstitutional, but signed it because he had said he would, assuming the USSC would throw it out. You all know where it went from there. (Scalia's dissent was especially . . readable!)
